"You Don't Know My Name" doesn't go for adds until November 11 and it's already #61 at Urban with +244. I am so glad to see that this may be an Urban hit. I didn't think this would do that well because it has such an old school soul sound, but I guess if "Love Of My Life" and "Say Yes" could do it, Alicia can too.

I still havent heard this
Kanye West produced it, and he is one of my favourite producers out.
I noticed on the Mediabase Taking Off chart for Urban it has been the most added in terms of new stations today with 14, and yesterday with 8, I believe
it isn't really doing anything on Rhythmic, and nothing at Pop yet, in terms of adds

I doubt this will do anything at all at pop. You'll understand why when you hear it. This is a strictly Urban and Urban AC single.

So, this is really the first single? I was hoping for something with much more crossover appeal, but hey whatever, it's still a great song! I doubt it'll do well on CHR/Rhythmic considering "Love Of My Life (An Ode To Hip Hop)" peaked in the 20s while it was a #1 Urban hit.

Alicia's audience is much younger than Erykah's and Rhythmic has been awaiting her return. Alicia also has WAY more sex appeal, and Rhythmic is more about image than Urban. I think this'll peakin the 11-15 range at Rhythmic.

Urban music tends to be more about quality than the CHR/Pop market.

Urban music tends to be more about quality than the CHR/Pop market. For some songs, yes. But when you have top 10 hits by Lil' Jon, Ludacris, and 50 Cent's P.I.M.P., I have to seriously disagree with that.

You make it sound like those songs never hit the Top 10 on CHR/Pop either (except for Ludacris, but I'm pretty sure he will anyway).

I never listened to this song after I downloaded it, but I heard it on 92.3 today here in LA and it was great. It sounds sounds so old school

"You Don't Know My Name" is now the second greatest gainer at Urban, behind "Clap Back," with a gain of +440. It sits at #43 three weeks before it's adds date. Alicia keysYou Don't Know My Name Producer(s): Alicia Keys, Kanye West Writer(s): A. Keys, K. West, H. Lilly, J.R. Bailey, M. Kent, K. Williams Publisher(s): various Label/Catalog Number: J Records 56599 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: November 01, 2003 Following the multi-platinum success of "Songs in A Minor," expectations are high for Alicia Keys' second set. If this single is any indication of what's to come, fans will be thrilled. Keys takes a retro vibe with "You Don't Know My Name." With creamy harmonizing on background vocals and cascading piano riffs, the Keys- and Kanye West-produced midtempo track is reminiscent of '60s-era ballads, thanks to a sample of the Main Ingredient's "Let Me Prove My Love to You." While Keys' dialogue during the bridge is a little forced, the girl-next-door lyric and sweet sentiment more than compensate. Mainstream and adult R&B radio stations will undoubtedly jump on this one, based on Keys' solid track recordβand they won't be sorry. This is the single to put Keys back atop the charts this holiday season. Her forthcoming set, "The Diary of Alicia Keys," is due in December.βRH

this song is definitely huge. i predict a #1 peak at both urban and rthymic. everybody has been awaiting her sophmore release. and this song is a great start. if the debut single wasn't gonna be streets of new york i am glad it was YDKMN. i also think it might be a surprise hit on chr/pop. because quality sometimes does win out

YA'LL......I CHECKED THE SONG OUT AND ALL I CAN SAY IS: THIS IS A REAL STRONG SONG I PREDICT WILL GO TO #1!! YOU GO, ALICIA! I mean strong vocals with that classic soul feel. It just might repeat the success of Fallin'. I'm looking at only the music triangle. Primarily urban and urban AC, but will get a fair reception at rhythmic. DAMN good song.

I will try to listen to this more, but the version I have now is over 6 minutes long and feels like 20... I really am a fan of Alicia's prior work but to me this isn't (hopefully) the best leadoff single from the new CD. I am glad that it's a laid-back sound and all, but that awful telephone call type dialogue adds nothing to the song except making it even longer!

While I don't think this is a GREAT choice for a first single, (it's a bit too long, and that phone call...lol) BUT, it's definitely a grower.
In my first few times of listening to the song in its entirety, I have fallen in love with it, almost.
I heard it this morning before I went to school, and I literally had to refrain myself from busting out and singing "And it feels like ooooooooOoooOOoooh!, You don't know my naaaaaa-aaaa-me!".
At one point someone was even like, "What are you singing?" lol...

I heard Flow93.5 play this song this morning! They edited out some of the talking though.

it is a grower, i mean i liked it from the start but it stays in my head... sometimes it annoys me. it's b/c of the phone call, that needs to GO.
but it is good on the live version.

Im surprised they didnt make a radio edit to take out the phone call or make it shorter. I really like the song regardless

"This is the waitress from the coffeehouse on 39th" LMAO
"You always order the special with hot chocolate" Ummm okayyyyyy
"I always use milk & sugar because you're kind of sweet" Gag me.
Otherwise, this song is also really growing on me. I hope it does well... we need some quality *music" on the radio right now.
Also, Alicia's neevr looked hotter than in this performance. This is the first time I'm saying this about her, but I'd do her.

Uh, I feel like I'm missing something.
I like the old school vibe of the song, and it's nice, but I definitely wouldn't call it 'freakin awesome' or anything close... ???

I think this song is a very very good song. It is by far better than her last two singles of debut album. It has a nice old school vibe. And like someone said earlier radio is in desperate need of quality music.
