dude it's no fight, it's conversation. I don't get all upset, when its expressing opinions. Unless its one particular person, who doesn't need mentioning. The problem with anyone critiquing music is that its subjective to every single listener. I love Second Chance....you don't. Does that mean its the most amazing song ever? No. Does that mean its not a great song? No. It just means that between you and I this song doesn't affect us the same way. I dont understand what you are trying to say with the "It's my Life" references. I mean the newest of those (and it was a remake) was in what? '01. Just because another artist has used and idea or song title doesn't make it off limits to me.....really any artist writes what they feel at any particular time. It either clicks with an audience or doesn't. But I'm pretty sure artists don't sit down and say "hey I really liked their song, let's write a song that's about the same thing" unless of course it's something they actually feel in their hearts is something they want to articulate. I'm not sure how I contradicted myself though. You might need to explain that to me. You contradicted yourself in that you talked about how nothing is original and then you said that at some point I and others have probably liked unoriginal songs. If nothing is original, then nothing is unoriginal in comparison to everything else.

Let him give his opinion about it not being very good and let it be I guess, the majority of us disagree with that and go along with what the facts say I wouldn't say sales ensure that something is great. Millions of people across America buy cigarettes and look at what it does to them. Chart performance, I have some issues with. No so much with rock charts, but with pop charts. Let's say tomorrow they uncovered some unreleased Michael Jackson single. That song would go straight to #1 regardless of if it's worth listening to. Having listened to If You Only Knew, I actually enjoy it. I don't think it can cross over. Pop stations played Second Chance to death.

well its a single from a band with a very brief pop history that went platinum, and its a crossover 2nd single, and went top 5 on pop, and #1 on Hot AC, and went to #1 on both BB Modern and Mainstream Rock.
so yeah, that actually is great.

It's a great accomplishment, as in impressive, but you're trying to use statistical facts to qualify a song as being "great," an adjective which most people will interpret as opinion.

^You can never say something is factually "great" unless there is a set guideline (i.e. sports statistics). Music doesn't have that, the closest thing to it is chart numbers, but those are tainted in that they rely on programmers and listeners' opinions.

Have not heard this get any airplay yet. This would seem like a mediocre choice when Grin and Suicide are lurking as deep cuts on the CD.

A fact is just an opinion that everyone accepts as true.

A fact is just an opinion that everyone accepts as true. I could see that. But if I have two coconuts, I have two coconuts. That is a fact, unless you want to drag out some 18th century action philosophy.

Maybe some people still call them cocoanuts. Then is it fact? Well they were called cocoanuts once upon a time. That is a fact. I think we can all agree that it is okay.

To explain in further detail, I said this.
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Where'd you get the coconuts?
Upon which you were supposed to say this.
King Arthur: We found them.
So we could continue with this.
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Found them? In Mercia? The coconut's tropical!
But instead you jumped down to a massacring of this.
King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.
So I tried to pick up with this.
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
So we could continue with this.
King Arthur: It could grip it by the husk!
But you failed.

It's a classic movie. That's like making fun of someone for knowing Mary Had a Little Lamb.

There's a difference between singing a 4-line nursery rhyme and reciting a scene from a movie just because someone referenced it.

I've seen it dozens of times. I own it. It's my favorite comedy of all time.
