I'm starting to compile a males list. Tricky, though, and may take some time, because the R&R charts site doesn't necessarily have "feature" info all there- i.e. it doesn't list Akon on "The Sweet Escape" (though it does list a number of his other "featurings"). Great list on the women so far! Just wondering how the list of men is coming along. I'm guessing since 2000, Eminem, Usher, Nelly, Akon and T.I. are really moving upward. More recently, Bruno Mars had something like his 10th Top 10 in a row.

I'm going to have to look at Hot 100 history first for some of the males because, as noted, the R&R archive site doesn't link some featured acts to a track. And some of the males have a lot of featurings.
I looked at some of the ets who haven't scored hits in some time. Plus, I had done Nelly, just did Akon and will look at some of the others.

Kelly Clarkson lands her 15th top 20 hit this week -note I'm counting "Never Again" as a top 20 entry- it peaked at 22 on R&R. I believe this is the only instance of one of the top females having a 1992-2007 or so track peak in the top 20 on Billboard's chart and not R&R, unless someone knows of another?

Hey HolidayGuy, are you sure that S&M wasn't counted for Britney because Billboard keeps crediting her with 7 #1's? I think she may have been credited for the week at #1. "Katy Perry and Rihanna lead all artists with nine Pop Songs No. 1s apiece. Women, in fact, far outpace men when it's come to topping the tally; five other women have totaled between eight and six leaders each: P!nk (eight), Lady Gaga, Britney Spears (seven each) Beyonce and Mariah Carey (six each). Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne, as well as Maroon 5, have also managed five No. 1s each." www.billboard.com/news?utm_source=most_recent#/column/chartbeat/bruno-mars-ties-nelly-justin-timberlake-1008053812.storyMainstream Top 40 #1's: -Baby One More Time, #1 (5 Weeks) 1999 -Oops...I Did It Again, #1 (3 Weeks) 2000 -Toxic, #1 (4 Weeks) 2004 -Womanizer, #1 (2 Weeks) 2009 -Circus, #1 (1 Week) 2009 -S&M, #1 (1 Week) 2011? -I Wanna Go, #1 (1 Week) 2011

Because I thought "S&M" peaked at #1 before the remix with Britney was even released. So I thought Britney would only be credited for 6 #1's rather than 7? ???

The one week "S&M" was at #1, Britney was credited.

"S&M" counts for Spears on the Hot 100 and Digital Songs. She was not credited on any airplay chart; and if you search Billboard's archive for mainstream top 40, "S&M" doesn't show up. I sent Gary Trust an e-mail; we'll see what he says.

I sent Gary Trust an e-mail; we'll see what he says. She was only credited on the Hot 100 because of the sales component. She was never credited on any airplay charts.

^Si. Ain't that pretty much what I said? If Spears has enough points to rank inside the top 100 acts on Billboard's next list, "S&M" only gives her 30% of the points it had for that single week (which comes from an inverse points system). I like that Billboard does that- 50% of the points if it's equal billing or "Duet With," and 30% if it's "Featuring" or "With."

First post of this page updated to reflect Spears' latest top 20 entry.
And, is "Diamonds" too far out of No. 1 to challenge?
EDIT: As it's now No. 3 on Mediabase's 7-day-rolling chart, down almost 1,000 spins, it's safe to say that "Diamonds" has peaked at No. 2.

"Catch My Breath" moves back up to 21* on Billboard's mainstream top 40 chart- it's 325 spins out of top 20- will it become her 16th top 120 entry? Stay tuned.

For the 2/16 Mainstream Top 40/Pop Songs chart, Rihanna lands another top 40 entry. Two more and she ties Mimi Carey; three more, she ties Damita Jo Jackson. At her crazy rate of releasing new material, she'll probably have the most at some point in the future.

Rihanna's totals are updated to include "Stay."
I think I had her hits counts higher than they were (by one).

HolidayGuy, I'm afraid I'm going to ask you to refine your list I just checked the history of #1s of several groups for the "Daylight" thread, and realized one error in your list regarding Gloria Estefan. As a Latino, I'd love her to be that high, but that shouldn't be the case. You have included: - 2 Top 10s: "Bad Boy" and "Words Get In the Way" - one Top 20: "Conga" - and one Top 30: "Falling In Love (Uh-Oh)" But all of them correspond to the album 'Primitive Love', which was an album credited to Miami Sound Machine. It was their most successful crossover, but for Latinos it was a continuation of their success as a group, which started in the late 70s with HIT songs like "Regresa a Mi", "No Sera Facil", "A Toda Maquina", "Baila Conmigo", etc. Miami Sound Machine was a band, led by Emilio Estefan, her husband... but Gloria was the main vocalist as a part of the band. After the success of their second English album, Emilio decided to put more emphasis on Gloria, so the act was renamed to Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, starting with the album 'Let It Loose'. SO, "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" should be the first single where Gloria is credited as an act.

^The archive I check includes those tracks under Gloria Estefan, and I think Billboard credits them to her, as well- so there ya go. :)

Updated the first post on this page, as Aguilera's featured turn adds to her top 10 count, and P!nk lands another top 20.
And, yes, RiRi has 23 top 10s at the mainstream top 40/pop format.

^The archive I check includes those tracks under Gloria Estefan, and I think Billboard credits them to her, as well- so there ya go. :) It's the same story as Diana Ross and the Supremes tho. I guess it depends on the author, some would include her stats in the Supremes as stats for DR, but others will clearly separate the chart story of both acts. Same for George Michael (Careless Whisper being credited to GM besides Wham! Depending on the country), or Beyonce and Destiny's Child.

^Yes, but Billboard doesn't really count the Supremes tracks, that credit Diana Ross, as part of her tallies. It often does mention the combined totals, but for its top 100 acts list and list of most No. 1s, etc., it does not include those Supremes tracks with Diana Ross. It also didn't combine the Wham!/George Michael tracks (as Jel Whitburn's done in Top Pop Singles). Billboard did lump Paul McCartney/Wings together, though (like it does for Gloria/MSM).
How Billboard explained it: The ranks of solo artists who also appeared as a member of a band do not reflect the band's hits, with the following exceptions:
• Paul McCartney's rank includes songs credited to Wings (but not the Beatles). • We combined Smokey Robinson and the Miracles with the Miracles (but tracked Smokey's solo career separately). • Sergio Mendez and his various ensembles (Brasil '66, Brasil '77, etc.) were merged with titles on which he was the sole artist listed. • We also linked Gloria Estefan with Miami Sound Machine, Bob Seger with the Silver Bullet Band, Kenny Rogers with First Edition, Jackson 5 and the Jacksons (but not solo careers of the various Jackson brothers), Herb Alpert with the Tijuana Brass, and Jefferson Airplane with Jefferson Starship and Starship.

Ok Thanks for sharing :) didn't know about those specific footnotes. As in many other cases it just seems arbitrary and awkward --but what's new with Billboard! There was a really obvious distinction / transition in terms of Gloria... You can even see the difference in the videos for Dr Beat, Conga and Bad Boy where it was the band featured and playing a key role, but them the greater emphasis on Gloria with Anything for You, etc. Anyway. I'd at least put an asterisk similar but that's to people like me I guess On another point, congrats to Xtina!! Cool to see her, Britney and Pink increasing their number of hits as good representatives of the 00s

If we have information for a particular artist, would you like us to post it in here or send you a message?
(It's for a male artist, the list you haven't completed yet.)

Hey, boggle- either one would be fine. :) The male list is tricky, with some "featurings" (esp. hip-hop) not listed under an act then have to be tracked down. There seem to be less female "featurings," though Nicki Minaj certainly has been racking them up.
RiRi's "Stay" is No. 1 on Mediabase, so I suppose it will be on Billboard, as well- breaking that tie with Damita Jo.
