It's official, "It's A Wrap" is the next single from "Love and Life". The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul announced it on Feb. 10, 2004 on BET's 106th and Park. The R&B legend also announced that she'll be appearing in an off-Broadway play, recording a NEW album, and touring in support of her current release. She also stated that she, Janet, and Beyonce have shot the cover of next month's Essence magazine.
I think "It's A Wrap" is a good choice for a single. Personally it's my favorite from the album. What do you all think?

How appropriate that she releases the song that describes her success with this album.
This is probably my favorite release thus far, but I'm just kind of sick of this album right now. This song won't do anything. It's way too 1999. It sounds like something from the "Mary" album. Not releasing "Let Me Be The 1" is the biggest mistake of her career. There has to be some kind of legal problem with releasing that song because there can't be any other reason.

I still can't believe "Not Today" didn't hit big :( . I pretty thought Mary's album was over with. I will check this song out but I doubt it will do very much. It's like Madonna releasing anything else off from AL pointless

I know, it looked like "Not Today" was going to resurrect the album a little bit I think the mistake with that was they should have released "Not Today" as the 1st single off this album. It's HOT, the album dropped at the end of August and the first single was like end of June, so dropping "Not Today" in the summer would have been KILLER (in the good sense). HUGE track but then everything got messed up...Love At First Sight was just 'ok'...kinda bland, disappointing for a comeback single on a much anticipated album to a big album for her (No More Drama) I think she coulda come with a hotter single for the summer, like Not Today. Anyway, LA1Sight kinda set the whole tone for the album, just kinda 'ok' and average, blah, boring, mediocre. I liked "Ooh!" but they yanked that after what, 10 days? I saw the video on Access Granted, and maybe 1 time in BET rotation after that...but it WAS a weird video, I'll at least give her that much. and then Not Today...HOT track as I've said...but I also think they waited too long to drop that too...Ooh was virtually non-existent...so she went on like a 3-4 month mini hiatus from Love At First Sight to Not Today, which didn't impact til what, December? The video didn't come out til December. For most mainstream fans who don't follow music as closely, that's quite a while in between videos/radio singles. LA1S didnt even fare well on Pop radio anyhow. So it was a whole big mess, IMO. Big time. The whole project seemed so rushed and everything, but the thing is, it wasn't! After all that "Im finally working with P.Diddy again, taking my time" and she did spend 2 years working on this album, after all. I haven't heard it, just the singles, and Let Me Be the One, but everything I've heard sounds like she recorded it in 3 weeks in her basement studio or something. I was very disappointed in Mary's effort this go-around. I was really thinking this album and the singles would be FIRE, but it was a whole big mess. They were ok, and I LOVED Not Today...the Ooh remix with G-Unit is hot, as is the original, and Love At First Sight WAS pretty catchy...but still...I was expecting her to come with alot more heat this time, especially after the BLAZING song that was "Family Affair". What else did P.Diddy produce for this album? Besides Love At First Sight? Or was that the only cut he did? Cuz after all that hoopla of their reunion, he better have done more than 1 mediocre old school sampled track! Whoa that was long... Just my $0.02....thanks for reading

Yep, the big mistake was that they released the whack "Love @ 1st Sight" as the first single despite having a smash in "Not Today" sitting on the album. By the time they did get around to releasing "Not Today", no one cared anymore.

I liked all the singles released from "Love & Life." "Love At First Sight" was the only one to hit #1 on my chart though.

"Ooh" should have won the Grammy for best R&B female vocal performance... it goes down in my book as one of Mary's highlites.
I do like this song a lot but I don't see how it can do better than any of the other singles-- mind you none of them were flops, just none of them were big hits.

I don't see how Beyonce won a Grammy for "Dangerously in Love '2'" over Mary's "Ooh!" but more shocking was that she beat Heather Headley's "I Wish I Wasn't".
How can you justify giving a 3 year old Destiny's Child group song, and an album track at that (on both albums) a Grammy over such worthy competition, namely Heather Headley?
The only thing I can think of is that NARAS felt like they should have rewarded the original incarnation of that song but missed the boat, so they gave it another chance? Still doesn't justify it, in my eyes.

Supposedly the video is already getting play on BET. This really is a flop! They didn't even send it for adds.

I haven't seen the video, or heard the song, for that matter
Is it up-tempo or slow? P.Diddy produced it, I believe

Launch hasn't added the video. One of us could look for it at her website. I saw a big hit on BET once that I read never was released to radio. I wouldn't call a song a flop on radio if it didn't go for adds. The Rebirth Experience, would you consider "Dreams" by Ashanti a flop? Just like "It's A Wrap," "Dreams" was a fourth single (fifth single if you count "Foolish" and "Unfoolish" as two singles) that had a video and I'm assuming it didn't go for adds. I thought this topic was older than it is.

I saw the video this morning on BET Start.
At first I didn't know what it was, since I hadn't seen it before...I didn't hear what he said to make her so pissed off.
The song isn't bad, but I dont even remember it. I'll have to hear it more

Mary just needs to go back into the studio and forget all about L&L and make a good record like we all know she is capable of.

I thought L&L was going to be a hot album, especially after No More Drama, and that she was back working with Diddy, Dr. Dre, and it wasn't rushed out, it was released 2 years after NMD. But boy was I wrong, other than the hot 'Not Today', overall the album was very disappointing.
So I really have zero expectation for her next album, whenever that will be. And I won't be looking forward to it nearly as much as I did L&L. But maybe that was part of the problem, I was really expecting L&L and the singles to be hot, and they weren't, so maybe my expectations were too high.
As for this last single, I have seen the video on BET just about every day this past week. It's pretty good, I like it. The hook is instant and catchy.

I loved "Love & Life". I think it was way better than "No More Drama". However, the single choices were so stupid I could only shake my head.

I think the L&L album cover should have been the first indication that it was going to be a bad era for Mary.
When I first saw that cover I was like WTF? It's ugly. She looks half asleep, the colour scheme is whack and her outfit looks like she's waiting on her laundry to be done.
