Isn't Radio 1 more influent than Radio 2 ? I've heard Radio1 is like UK's Z100, in terms of influence through other radio stations across the country. Radio 1 is the biggest pop station in the UK, but in terms of which station gets more audience impressions, Radio 2 easily beats Radio 1's ass. It's not a shock that BBC Radio 1 are snubbing Whitney, seeing as she's considered too "old and out of date" '4 da kidz'.

According to MTV, Whitney really sold 311,000 so far (she sold 6,000 in Walmart sales those few days before its release).

Whitney Houston Looks To #1 On Billboard Whitney Houston's I Look To You
The diva's comeback seems secure, as I Look to You sells 311,000 in its first week.
By Gil Kaufman
After seven years off the charts, Whitney Houston has proven she's still got it. The R&B diva will debut at #1 on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart with her comeback album, I Look To You. The LP notched 305,000 in sales last week (and 6,000 copies were sold before its official release), a strong showing that handily outperformed 2002's Just Whitney, which managed just 205,000 in its first week for a #9 debut

Up 6 spots to #28 this week - most of the support coming from BBC Radio 2 and the Urban/Rhythmic stations in the UK. We have a long time until her appearance on X-Factor (British American Idol) in October, and Million Dollar Bill will gain momentum by rising on airplay even without Radio 1's help.

According to my radio contact, the next 2 singles are supposed to be dual, which makes sense. I don't think either song has much crossover appeal but I do think they would both dominate at their core formats. Really? Meh dual singles again. I'm sure they'll do well but with all these dual singles how will her album span. I mean she only has 11 songs on the album to begin with... Exactly, no more dual singles. The first time was enough. Like I said, they'll waste singles this way.

311,000 copies is GREAT! Wow this keeps getting better.
Re: Dual singles. Hopefully Arista knows what they're doing. Trying to pull a Drake with two hit songs on the charts lmao!

Well, as of right now the dual 2nd/3rd single is only a rumor. I'll wait until something is confirmed before discussing it any further.

Go Nippy show em all how it's done. I'm loving all the positivity being spread with her and the new album. After the Oprah interview I expect her to gain respect from everyone. This is turning out to be a great era for her and it's only just beginning!

jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/H/Houston_Whitney/2009/09/09/10804226-jam.html #1 in Canada baby- look at the differene in sales from JW- people are just glad to have a healthy whitney back- ____________________________________________ Whitney Houston debuts at No. 1 By JOHN WILLIAMS Senior Editor, JAM! Showbiz Whitney Houston Whitney Houston made like it was the '80s all over again by scoring the top album in the land. Her long-awaited return, "I Look To You," shot to the top of the Canadian charts selling 10,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. It's easily Houston's best opening totals since Neilsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1996. Her last album, 2002's "Just Whitney," debuted at No. 85 with just 3,000 in sales. She also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 305,000 copies in the U.S. Back in Canada, the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)" was relegated to the No. 2 spot with 7,000 in sales, followed by the premiere of Pitbull's "Rebelation" (6,000) at No. 3, and Vincent Vallieres' "Le Monde Tourne Fort" at No. 4. Kings of Leon's "Only By the Night" slipped two positions to No. 5, David Guetta's "One Love" came down four to No. 6, while Taylor Swift's "Fearless" moved up from No. 10 to No. 7. Rounding out the top 10 was Billy Talent's "Billy Talent III" at No. 8, Lady GaGa's "The Fame" at No. 9, and The Used's "Artwork" at No. 10. In the U.S., Miley Cyrus' "The Time of Our Lives" came in second, followed by Trey Songz' "Ready" in third, Insane Clown Posse's "Bang! Pow! Boom!" in fourth and Colbie Caillat's "Breakthrough" in fifth.

"Call You Tonight" sounds like something would do well on multiple formats. It sounds like everything else that has hit radio since 2006. I agree. CYT has just as much appeal as any of Stargate's other multi-format hits ("With You," "Wait for You," "Take a Bow," "Miss Independant" etc. ). It's just as fresh as those. The only thing that I can conceivably see holding the track back is CHR and Rhythmic's radio's willingness to spin a 40+ year old legend's work alongside Rihanna, BEP, Pitbull, Miley, etc.

Arista is sticking with ILTY and MDB now guys- there is no talk of a 3rd single, they know what they are doing- they are unleashing the video for ILTY tomorrow and a sneak peak of Oprah- they know what they are doing,- let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Ranging anywhere between 350,000 and 400,000 copies, give or take how much she sold in Germany of course. Either way, #1 worldwide album is basically a lock.

Whitney has a decent chance her 3rd week out to get to #2 and #1 depending on how the dRake EP does: I say this because of this: www.hitsdailydouble.comJayz, imo, didnt' sell so well and i see why he moved his date up: Let me qualify, he sold well for today's market but with a 'hot collabo' single, #4 at itunes, 'hot' collabo with Drake,'Off That', 'tons of promo- he is not far off from Whitney, lmao! _If he takes a typical 60% drop that rappers take, even at the higher end of 350k, we're looking at 140k 2nd week approximately- unless he is hoping from a huge buy after his concert- imo, his album leaked too early and before that, 4 songs had leaked and he had mixed reviews- lots of hate. ________________________________________________ Jay-Z: I read the news today, oh boy. The Beatles’ stereo and mono box sets, as well as all the individual, re-mastered titles, hit the streets today from EMI Music, and initial reports have the box sets selling out at Amazon and other on-line retailers. FOLLOWING THE BLUEPRINT Early Release Date Will Catapult Jay-Z to #1, Beatles Box Sets Selling Out September 9, 2009 It’s all about the Jigga. Rap icon Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3, the first release from his Roc Nation imprint through Atlantic Records, will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS album chart with a total between 300-350k. That’s the word from those retailers still out there fighting the good fight by refusing to turn their fine establishments into medical marijuana dispensaries. The Beatles’ stereo and mono box sets, as well as all the individual, re-mastered titles, hit the streets today from EMI Music, and initial reports have the box sets selling out at Amazon and other on-line retailers. Next up on the debut list is IceH2O’s Wu Tang Clan member Raekwon with the sequel to his celebrated Only Built for Cuban Linx, distributed by Dominic Pandiscia’s EMI Label Services Group, which should be good for 55-60k. Columbia’s Boston rockers Boys Like Girls are eyeing a debut in the 45-50k range, while Arista Nashville’s retiring country duo Brooks & Dunn go out with a greatest hits set in the 35-40k area. Virgin metallists Saosin’s In Search of Solid Ground should do 20-25k, while Tooth & Nail’s Thousand Foot Krutch is just behind with 15-20k. The market was up 8% vs. last week, down 7% vs. same week last year and down 14% year to date. You may now return to boycotting our President’s appearance in your child’s classroom.

The Drake EP won't sell. Kid Cudi is going to sell more. her only real competition that week is Kid Cudi and Jay-Z, so I think her chances are strong.

He has a bunch of late night talk shows to do and his deluxe edition is climbing the Amazon charts. I'm not sure about Drake, but I don't expect an EP with old songs to do much in his favor. He might be able to do 35-45k. I don't see it doing much, not even with the hype.

As much as I love Whitney I really want Kid Cudi to be #1 because the album completely deserves it.
He's next week btw.

I wouldn't mind either Whitney or Kid Cudi to get #1, but if Kid Cudi comes in top 3, then that's a success for him. So, I think Whitney will come out on top again. Her power is just too strong right now.

Getting back to Whitney, I think the video premiere will help with 2nd week sales and radio airplay as well. There's no longer an excuse anymore. With the #1 album debut all over the news and a video they need to start showing her more love.

Her power is just too strong right now. I don't have an attachement to Kid Cudi, although, I do like his song, 'Make her say'. However, I am hoping that Whit pulls out #1 again which would be saying something. It will come down to how strong/weak Jay-z's 2nd week sales are and how strong the buzz is on Kid Cudi. Outside of strong reviews/word of mouth about Kid Cudi, of the top of my head, I don't see him selling more than 150k but this is based on nothing but me guessing out of thin air. Let's spilt the difference and say Jay-z sells 330k, with a drop of around 65%- that would be him around 117k (gosh that looks terrible in print). If Whitney connects on Oprah and the bloggers get good feedback on her, ILTY has a realistic chance of getting to #1 again. we'll see.
