Adam knows he who he is. Many of you will learn much from his example, like gays in the 80's did from Madonna and Leona Helmsley. Michael Jackson didnt make Thriller possible all on his own. Prince helped. A lot. Glambert isnt the gay Michael Jackson. He's the gay Prince. Adam is disgusting. Gays aren't going to "learn" anything from him, other than how to perpetuate the stereotypes gay men have around us, that ultimately hold us back in society.

Entertainment Weekly sums up my feelings best. Here are a few thoughts: SHAKIRA Shades of ''Hollaback Girl'' in the spirit-squad intro and a cappella call-and-response, plus ''Single Ladies'' black leotards for the backup dancers. Still, Shakira makes new Timbaland-helmed single ''Give It Up to Me'' her own Colombian-caliente party starter. But sorry hip-hop fans; no Lil Wayne guest spot, as per the album version. Grade: B KEITH URBAN He kissed a girl, and he liked it. Country’s reigning Aussie turns out a tight, rollicking version of his country-crossover hit ''Kiss a Girl'' — and of course we all know which Oscar-winning redhead he smooches on his own time. Life is good, isn't it, Keith? Grade: B+ KELLY CLARKSON Strings make it extra-classy! Clarkson's torchy, slow-burn ballad gets the orchestral treatment. Though the usually unimpeachable season 1 Idol champ sounds uncharacteristically shaky (nerves? bum earpiece?), she brings it home for the final notes. In the end, an off night for one of the strongest natural talents in the business. Grade: B- JAY-Z AND ALICIA KEYS A little Sinatra-redux swing from Alicia to kick things off, then the Hova bounding onstage in Ray-Bans and a white dinner jacket to go with that white baby grand — this must be the hip-hop anthem of the year, ''Empire State of Mind.'' Even Reba McEntire's smiling! Together, the pair garner the biggest applause of the night so far. Grade: A- CARRIE UNDERWOOD The lady is a vamp — she's country, sure, but ''Cowboy Casanova'' puts some serious rock in that twang, even though she spends the first half seemingly reluctant to let it rip. Once she does, Carrie wins the vocal prize of the night so far — and the gold star for white satin hot pants too. Grade: A- So what's their take on Adam and JLo? I am appalled to be reading some actually lauding Adam's performance (mostly for the spectacle and they all conveniently forget to mention his off the mark vocals)

Ratings are in. 14.2 million viewers. However, it came it second to Sunday night football (Bears vs. Eagles) 15.1 million viewers. I knew they were desperate for viewers when they made it an idol themed show. Paula giving out the first award. Pumping up Adam's performance for the entire 3 hours, then Ryan Seacrest ending the show WITH Adam. Could they have gotten anymore desperate for viewers? With all that they still didn't top the night with viewers so much for cashing in on the idol audience. CMA's even beat this they had over 16 million viewers. www.thrfeed.com/2009/11/amas-draw-largest-audience-since-2002.html

You think ppl tuned in to see Adam, Kelly and Daughtry? Taylor, MJ and Gaga brought the viewers. The only idol with pulling power is Carrie. No I don't think they brought in all those viewers. But you can't deny that they TRIED to use Idol as a tool to get viewers. If you saw the original press release when it was announced idols were performing you'd see that as fact. It was Idol first then they listed Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry and Adam but the highlight of the press release was idol, performers secondary). Then to have Paula open the show, Adam was highlighted throughout and Seacrest closed after Adam's performance. That show was bookend with idol. But no, I don't think they brought in all those ratings but I think it helped them somewhat. Adam was popular, at least up until his AMA performance so I think the idol connection could have given them at least a 2-3 million boost. They'd probably been third without it, CBS wasn't far behind.

I would agree with this if he showed the talent to back up the art. He sounded terrible tonight. Ugh, looking at your avatar, Lady GaGa looks just like Amy Winehouse. why does whitney look pregnant?

Adam Lambert Says Censorship of American Music Awards Song Would Be “Discrimination” 11/23/09, 1:29 am EST In approximately 30 minutes the West Coast will get a look at the American Music Awards performance that has everyone talking: Adam Lambert’s racy rendition of For Your Entertainment’s title track. When Lambert finished his song — complete with simulated oral sex with a male backup dancer and a passionate kiss with a male keyboardist — earlier tonight, fans hit the Internet to debate whether the American Idol runner-up’s first major televised performance since the Idol finale pushed the envelope too far. Lambert tells Rolling Stone he didn’t do anything female performers haven’t done on television already — and that if ABC cuts any part of his performance for the rebroadcast it will amount to “discrimination.” “It’s a shame because I think that there’s a double standard going on in the entertainment community right now,” Lambert tells RS backstage after the show at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. “Female performers have been doing this for years — pushing the envelope about sexuality — and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out. We’re in 2009; it’s time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people’s eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I’m not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom.” If ABC opts not to broadcast several of the more risqué moments of “For Your Entertainment” in a few moments, “In a roundabout way it’s a form of discrimination because it is a double standard,” Lambert says. “They didn’t censor Britney and Madonna macking onstage did they? But yet two men kissing they’ll censor?” The famous Video Music Awards moment Lambert is referring to went down on cable television — on MTV, of course — rather than network television. www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/11/23/adam-lambert-says-censorship-of-american-music-awards-song-would-be-discrimination/MTV didn't cut Will Ferrell's and Sasha Baron Cohen's kiss either.

Remember as well the AMAs are on broadcast and the VMAs are on cable. 8.97 is excellent viewership for cable (especially with the amount of repeat views the VMAs get).

I hadn't heard or seen Adam Lambert singing live before I saw the AMA performance..And I hope I'll never witness him again. C'mon, the song was hideous, the singing was hideous and the performance was "I try too hard" from start to finish.

Adam's performance was kind of like what I saw in Vegas once, but it cost me $75 to see that one. This one was free and I want Adam to reimburse me the $75 I spent in Vegas, now.
I didn't mind the singing, well except for the usual Banshee screams. But, I could've done without seeing his rated R version of what he does in private. Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake could be admonished for their little "moment" during the Superbowl and this guy can get away with an S & M performance on national tv without any consequences. Kiss a couple of guys on tv, it's ok, remember Madonna and Britney. But, after his version of soft porn, I hope his 15 minutes are up. jmho

Here is a better breakdown of ratings so you can see how many people watched during each half hour
Over at ABC, The 2009 American Music Awards averaged a hefty 14.16 million viewers (12.20 million on Nov. 23, 2008).

I have to say having rihanna carrie Underwood and lady gags back to back was brilliant. All 3 were great and all 3 are big ratings draws.

I simply cannot believe that GaGa went home empty handed. These awards are pathetic. I am embarrassed for Adam, that performance was just a trainwreck. Gaga was robbed!

Did anyone else notice Kelly Clarkson have messed up on her lyrics? She was repeating the same phrase "already gone" over and over like she had lost her place in the song, I think she skipped the bridge, and then she kinda ended the song differently than the album version goes. Was that on purpose, or am I crazy? This thread rocks by the way, I only ever post on the "dance" board, but reading all the comments from the very beginning has been hella fun :)

Even Adam brought up Prince in one of his post show interviews whining, "but Prince wore assless pants!" Yeah, but Prince totally rocked his assless-pants performance, and without simulated stage sex. Prince is a master songwriter and performer. Adam isn't a songwriter and, as last night showed, he has yet to lock down the "performer" aspect of his career.

It sounded to me like that was what was happening. That said, it's not that uncommon for her to forget her own lyrics and have to improvise.
