It's too late to turn it around. Irreparable damage has been done. Yeah, part of me thinks it's too little too late at this point. They shoulda saved that remake for the international markets and serviced this song here as the 2nd single.

I think this still has potential. They released it just in time. Many big stations are only now starting to reduce spins on Obsessed. It's not too late to pretend that IWTKWLI never happened on Pop, Rhythmic or Urban.

Well im sure it will do just fine on Rhythmic could even be huge there, it should do okay on Urban aswell, but the downfall of this will easily be lack of pop and itunes support. IWTWLI is the reason i laugh when i hear certain posters say they want Mimi to go back to sappy ballads like this and hero , without u. Mariah owes her relavancy this decade to Rythmic and Urban support and that is the market she should target, which is why HATE U would easily have been the better 2nd single choice

Yeah... Pop won't jump on this, but if it goes to Top 3 on Urban and Rhythmic, Pop will def. jump on it, just like they did with Obsessed. I agree with you, I don't think she can count on Pop anymore. I mean Obsessed was so pop-friendly, and it failed to go Top 5 there despite it going to #1 on Rhythmic. I see Hate U doing better (or taking off faster) on Urban than Rhythmic.

Great news that there's a radio edit. They basically did everything with this I though they should to make it a hit. Cut it down by about a minute in length and extend that great fade-out. They made the right moves here. What does the edit clock in at? About 3:30?

It's not a remix (the version Power 105.1 is playing) - it's a radio edit. It's the same as the album verison, minus a verse and a chorus. It bodes much better for the song, especially since it's doesn't REALLY start to pick up until the third verse/bridge, which clocks in now at 1:30 instead of 2:53 (H.A.T.E.U. album version) or IWKWLI (2:54).
It really sounds so much more radio-friendly, even with the long chorus...there's no double "We went round for round..." so it's like the song has two separate bridges (WBT) with a powerful climax that comes in relatively early. At the same time, you don't feel like the song is being cut-off right when it's climaxing.

Mmmm.. I dunno about this song. It kinda sounds like Ciara's "Promise" or a 3rd rate version of "WBT." If I were the record company I probably would have release IWTKWLI as the second single as well... maybe it just needs some more time to grow. Look at ALL of Beyonce's singles as of late.

I just came to accept that every single new release from Mariah will be marked by *at least one person* as a direct, second, third or 1000th rate remake of WBT...
"She uses full voice": WBT remake "She is singing rapidly during the verses": WBT remake "It's less than 4 minutes long!": WBT remake "It has NO BRIDGE!!!! :o ": WBT remake "OMG!!!!... It's a ballad!!!!": WBT remake
I think I even remember reading someone comparing SIDE EFFECTS and I'M THAT CHICK to We Belong Together!!! LOL

Why are Mariah's thread on the Pop forum always so harsh to read? Jeez!
H.A.T.E.U is a beautiful R&B song, accept it for what it is. Not everything has to be elctronic or uptempo like GaGa's album.

I'm one of her biggest critics for recycling tracks but this one sounds absolutely nothing like WBT.

Is that a good or bad update because im relatively new to all the airplay and chart stuff lol It's an OK update. We're still over 2 weeks away from the adds date, so you'd like to see it picking up a little more steam, especially on pop, as it gets closer.

Ballads recently haven't been zooming, but slowly gain steam... like Halo. It had a very, very slow rise.

I actually think the success of Already Gone at pop is a good sign for this. Granted, KC is more a pop artist than Mariah, but that song is not a song you'd typically think would be a big hit. It's very slow-moving and emotional, but listeners seemed to pick up on that and it's done well.

I'm predicting this will do great at Rhythmic and Urban - with out without the remix. It's just that great a song.

This is one of the best songs off Memoirs, but I'm not sure if it'll do much at radio because it might not catch on to casual listeners right away. Hopefully I'm wrong because this is a very different type of ballad for Mariah; it's great that this isn't a WBT part 3 or 4.

Goes for Pop (and Rhythmic and Urban) adds November 3 (R&R).
