I HATE that this album/project has flopped. I still hold a little hope for it but... I so wanted this to do well. It has a lot of great music. :(

Huh? I am NOT hating at all! I really like this record and want more success! How can deduce hate from my post?
EDIT: LMAO I am so dumb. Sorry! And I hope so.

This song is so bland and boring... I'll be surprised if it does anything for her

In pop music, to remain successful, you have to put out good music and stay under 40.

It is a shame she didn't re-establish her WW fanbase after Mimi. She could be like Madonna and push this wonderful album in other countries. It is more mature and would have done very well anywhere else IMO had it been treated right.

I'm sorry but plz radio isnt ANTI-MARIAH because of age, Touch My Body, Obsessed have proved with the RIGHT single choice she can enjoy alot of radio sucess........a 22 year old diva would have flopped with IWTWLIS, ISTIL and BB. Although in the grand scheme of things BB fared ok and isnt really a flop.

At least they're moving quickly on this after IWKWL. It's almost as if she didn't have a 2nd single at pop, haha. I really hope this song catches on. It's one of her best in recent years. Hopefully this, combined with some acclaim she'll get from the release of "Precious" can at least salvage sales.

not buying the over 40 theory. madonna turned 40 in the ray of light era and she had lots of hit pop singles in her forties. mariah still looks young and attractive, and in this day and age 40 is not as old as it used to be. the problem is she's picking the wrong singles. hate u is a masterpiece but not for a pop single. mariah's problem is actually similar to madonna's and age is not it: they seem to just get one hit single per album (mariah's tmb and obsessed; madonna's dad, hu, and 4m) because they aren't releasing the right singles (mariah's migrate, standing o; madonna's beat goes on).

So let's predict how many total pop adds we'll have after the adds date. I say ... 13.

Age and numbers of years in the spotlight in general is certainly a factor that deters artists like Madonna and Mariah from continuously competing with younger, fresh pop artists. They will still have hits but I don't think there is enough continued interest in the general public for them to shoot to #1 like they have in the past (particularly if the material is not strong). Also, I think that perhaps both try a smidgen too hard at times to cater to the younger demographics rather than simply focusing on the quality of their output. They also both still try to play the role of a sexpot when that's probably not going to hold anyone's attention outside those with a cougar fetish.

...except Mariah still looks 20 so she doesn't have to try as hard. Most guys I know who are even teenagers drool over her. That's why SHE can be one of Maxim's Sexiest Women at her age and what not. But, that's neither here nor there. I also think that (barring a few examples on the CD), Mariah's new CD finally sees her hitting an age-appropriate stride. Most of the quiet storm and mellow R&B music found here is over the heads of the teenyboppers and tweens. For example, how many teenyboppers or tweens would get the reference, "layin' in the bed bumping Jodeci" or would understand the "Back In The Day" or "More Than Just Friends" interpolations. I definitely do think Mariah is getting more of a grasp on the realities of her age and that's why she isn't making "Dreamlover 2009" and "Fantasy 2009" at this point in her career. Also, notice the lack of guest rappers. I don't see Justin and Timbaland all over her new CD. I think this material is her strongest in years, if not ever. If the young people don't like it, oh well. Sadly enough though, because of the internet and what not, even adults who typically would purchase CDs in stores, no longer feel the need. Even my mom knows about sites such as Limewire and how to use them.
All that said, I think H.A.T.E. U. (along with all other songs on Memoirs besides maybe Angels Cry and Up Out My Face) is much better suited for R&B/rhythmic radio than for pop but we'll see. I can only hope for the best, being a longtime Mariah fan but I have given up on her getting any more #1st or seeing anymore mainstream success.

Well, save for the Mariah looking 20 part. I'll give her early 30's max but maybe her balloons are distracting you. I do think this is a strong track - probably her best in a couple of eras - and it easily stands out compared to everything she's released as of late. This deserves to do well but she needs to get it out there fast, IMO. It can cross over to this format but it's likely to be a grower. So there's some risk involved with this being her third single.

I also know teenage boys who drool over Mariah. I've heard her being referred to as a "M.I.L.F." at least a dozen times.
I'm not worried about Mariah at all. 'Obsessed' is definitely not the last big hit of her career. There's a reason she has been around for twenty years and is still the star she is.

For all of you that liked my edit of the song...Power 105 is playing the same version (no second verse), so I have a feeling it might be the official radio edit.

The edit is okay. I love the second verse, but I understand shortening the song for radio.
I'm not going to be so optimistic with this one. I can't name a song similar to this one that got played on CHR besides Alicia's 'Like You'll Never See Me Again', and that peaked at #24. I'll be surprised with this going Top 30 on Pop.

Maybe people just really don't like IWKWLI in the U.S. in 2009 and she should have released this second anyway. Time will tell. I hope this does well though because it's officially my favorite song on the album.

I liked that track a lot, and the vocals are very similar, as is that keyboard loop (wow - almost identical), but the beat was so cheap and light...it has a lot less punch than H.A.T.E.U. That being said, I also don't have high expectations for this, but I certainly think it's a much better single than IWKWLI.

This is really the only song on the album that stuck out for me...I love the arrangement, and the instruments... I think it could be a smash...but nothing else on the album sounds like one to me.

Just heard it on Power 105. It sounded REALLY good...much better than I expected. It was in between Ego and Shawty Is A 10.
RADIO EDIT: -2 Verses (1st & 3rd) -Still a fade out, but you can hear the "I can't wait to H.A.T.E.U., cause right now I need you, can't wait to let you go" at the same volume twice, then the instrumental fades. So it's very similar to the IBLULT radio edit (which was actually longer than the album version) in that they just extended the fade out so it's not all fast and awkward.
