I love this song, don't get me wrong, but this is a horrible single choice. This song is way too much of a grower & radio isn't going to be playing this song- I think. "Standing O" should've been the next single, but we'll see how it does.
I predict this being on the Hot 100 in the 70s then dropping.

"Angels Cry" is a hit waiting to happen. "I knew that "H.A.T.E.U." would be the next single, but I cannot see the hype in this song.

I don't understand the hype for this. It drags on for me. (as does the album)

The album version took me way too long to get into, but I made an edit pretty similar to the Today Show version (w/out the second verse and second chorus), and it finally hit hard. There's no monotony or repeated bridges, it's barely over 3 minutes, and it gets to the stronger vocals much more quickly. I'm not trying to compare it to WBT, but structurally, without the second verse and chorus, it follows the same formula. If they use a similar edit, then I think this may actually perform much better than some are expecting. No posting mp3s - Haley

She has been scrambling for hits since TMB failed to be huge and they picked the wrong follow up. Shame.

I don't understand this. What's the point of releasing these singles within two months of each other? This won't do anything incredible. Obsessed will be the biggest hit off the album.

This song is boring as hell, and @ them releasing the 3rd single already.

The point is to move on as quickly as possible from the atrocity that was IWKWLI, which should've been sent to only Hot AC/AC/Urban AC to begin with.
Here's another stream of the edit...it's much more effective, shorter (4:28 is way too long), and sounds way more like a hit than the album version:
No posting mp3s! Thanks :) - Haley

She has been scrambling for hits since TMB failed to be huge and they picked the wrong follow up. Shame. "Touch My Body" was quite a big hit, and so was "Obsessed". I'm not sure how either failed at all.

I doubt CHR wants another ballad from Mariah.

Because it would have been wise of her label to wait another two months before releasing the next single (when it is clear IWTKWLI is going nowhere). This is what should happen when a song isn't being received well, you move on. duh.

She has been scrambling for hits since TMB failed to be huge Shame. Just for the record TMB was huge, over 125 million aud, #1 hit single, over 1m sold, i dont know what your definition of huge hit, but most people would agree like it or not, it was huge As for Hate U its the best song on the album, if your a fan of R & B you gotta like this. Its her best song IMO since WBT, and regardless how it fares on radio due to recent events..........im glad they went with the best song possible. Live and die by your best material, if they did that before we would have been spared BB and IWTKWLI.

It would have been wise for the label to have chosen a better second single, then they wouldn't need to rush release a third one when the album is barely a week old.

Personally, this song is her best ballad since We Belong Together (though, clearly it doesn't have as much multi-format appeal). The song itself is well written and the vocals are perfectly executed and beautifully emotive.
