The next iTunes release will have an "o" in it (for the little play button). I guarantee it!

do you all think we'll be able to complete the album and not have to re-buy the early tracks? i see that under album, this track is labelled as "Mama's Song - Single" instead of "Play On"
i still don't feel the song as much as i thought i would because i am usually a sucker for the emotional ballad. the production is right, the emotion is right, but i really think the lyric isn't developed enough. (it doesn't really explain why the guy is good, and the chorus gets a bit too repetitive for my liking). but if most love it then its all good.

^^ I have purchased other singles from an album and still have been able to complete the album when the record is released. My concern is that if there (hopefully) is a deluxe version, sometimes iTunes does not let you complete the deluxe album. I am looking forward to others' experience with this.

Anyone else think maybe that's Kara singing backing vocals on the single?

(* Darn, I had a long post and transcribed the lyrics and then it went poof. Anyway...)
Bought it! And I really, really love it. It's like being privileged to hear a conversation between Carrie and her mom. There's so much love in there. The lyrics even fit because I can imagine Carrie actually saying these exact words.
If I haven't said it already, I love the song :) And I am really looking forward to the album. I'm deliriously happy with everything I've heard and seen from Carrie so far!

There's a front page ad up for the countdown! Doesn't say which songs are coming up, though. :(

I just bought it and obviously heard the entire song. I was pretty sure about it not being a single after hearing the original short clip. But, I wouldn't bet money on it NOT being one. Yea, it's not the kind of song being played on radio today. But, if anyone can change that trend, Carrie can. Man, great song and great vocal. Love the backgound vocals also. Whew, this cd is going to be a really, really, really, really, really, great one. Did I say really great? Yep, really great.

I think I'm gonna wait till the deluxe version is up.

Finally got it to download! Carrie's vocals are just top notch. (Not sure how I feel about the na na na's in the background yet.) But the song (lyrics especially), I don't like any more than I did when I heard the clip. To me, it's just not a very well-written song. Still the production gives me hope that there will be more quiet moments on PO that might carry over to songs I like more. Someone mentioned how Carrie's songwriting style gets stronger when she writes with certain people. I going to say, I don't think Kara is one of those people.

The song isn't supposed to be lyrically strong IMO. It is supposed to be message strong and it passes with an A+!

I just don't know if the message is fully formed enough for my taste, even though I get the message. In my opinion, it could have been a great song with a little more development and less repetition. Maybe a different 2nd chorus.

Well my take for what its worth.... love the vocals, spot on as usual and I am very happy that it wasnt completely over produced. I definately feel her emotion. As the mother of two daughter's I love the concept of the song; I can so relate to it. The verses are pretty good I just am not really feeling the chorus. That said, I dont think that there is anything more difficult to write than a love song. Having not heard what else is on the album I will reserve my opinion as to whether or not this should be a single until a later time.

Thanx I just noticed that ad! I didn't see it last night. So next is Temporary Home. I think everyone will love the songwriting and lyrics to that song, right Jeff? I haven't heard it, but it is supposed to be very strong lyrically, and that will show Carrie's talent as a songwriter better then Mama's Song. However, Mama's Song is really pretty and a nice message song, plus her vocals are really really strong. Production is perfect too! I don't think Mama's Song should be a single, though, because it doesn't seem to be as radio friendly as some other songs on the album (per the rumors). But it will be great for a beautiful album track dedicated to her Mama and Mike Baby. lol So I think this means "Oh Holy Night" will be Carrie's Christmas single this year! Sweet! AS much as I like DYHWIH, it is time to move on to a new Christmas song. lol If you click on the "Countdown to Play On" logo, you can now see the songs featured per week. Oct. 20 - Temporary Home Oct. 27 - Undo It Those who use the "Complete My Album" option after will get the bonus track "O Holy Night" :)

Anyone else got the vibe that it sounds like DFTRM meets AAG??

^ Yes it reminds me a bit of DFTRM. :)
I think it was a good choice for the transition between Cowboy Casanova and Temporary Home. If TH is a deep, meaningful, sad song, you don't want that to come right after Cowboy Casanova, you know? lol The 2 extremes might seem too drastic. So Mama's Song is a nice buffer between the upbeat sassy song, CC, and the deep, sad song, TH.

Interesting you mention AAG since that is the song that MS parallels the most IMO. I think in this case though, it's an ode to mothers instead of fathers.
