I hate radio sometimes - RR is one of the strongest songs she's released. This. And this one is still the first single, ''buzz'' singles are for Ciara and those people that flop everywhere. This one at least did good on the Hot 100 and WW. Could you be any less objective? Why bring Ciara into this?

Why bring Ciara into this? Someone said this was getting a 'buzz single' release and it wasn't. Ciara was the first example of a real 'buzz single' that came into my mind ('Go Girl').

There were only a few bad parts, I thought. I assume that was live, it sounded like it to me.

Uh oh...Beyonce fans are always harsh critics. They are always checking for her. True. Some of them are really embarassing. I thought she did a great job and sounded really good, especially since she's really not a big ballad singer. She should have performed this at the AMAs.

The vocal was a bit rough. Happy to see it providing a boost to the song in the UK though. Let's hope the same happens with the album there.

Her best song to date? Certainly is up there for me. SO happy to see this hold up on iTunes. Shows that people like the song, radio is just too piss poor to play something a little on the dark non-disposable side. FARK OFF!

Even though this wasn't the most successful or obvious single choice, I love that she took a risk on this. It really showcases how much her vocals have improved since her debut album. She's not the most talented vocalist by any means, but her voice is very unique. She does very well with what she has.

I disagree that this was "too dark" for pop. Kelly's 'Because Of You' wasn't exactly a sunny morning lyrically.

I understand what you're saying but I wouldn't say I find Because Of You particularly "dark". When I think of "dark" I think of a song being threatening, eerie or creepy. Russian Roulette is a dark song because it is sinister and has a really dark mood; I believe that is exactly what the person was trying to say.

Um but production wise it was still very radio friendly. The same could be said for a numbr of Pink's songs (Sober anyone?) and yet they still perfiormed very well.

Let's put it this way, how many songs centering around a violent game where one individual is killed do you know that have been extremely successful? The image of being shot in the head is just a bit darker than the topic discussed within Sober.

Yes the song was dark but let's call a spade a spade here...it was not catchy at all. And that was why it flopped. Rihanna is an artist known for her hooks and this didn't have one. Songs with deep subject matter have done well before. For example, Third Eye Blind's "Semi Charmed Life" was about drug addiction but no one would have guessed by it's insanely catchy chorus and "do do do"s
With that being said, I thought she performed this the best yet on SNL last night.

I agree that the song was a risk, I was replying to the person who said Kelly C's BOY was as dark as RR. It is no where near as dark, IMO. RR is a risk, I totally agree with you guys, sorry about the confusion.
