There is something about the theme of her new covers that's turning me off. It's very S&M and makes me feel like I'm looking at police files from a rape victim or something. And what's with her fingers? I don't understand posts like this. Are you that sheltered that a black and white photograph of Rihanna in a one-piece makes you think you're looking at a "rape victim or something"? Do you not see the picture or something? There is photos of tapes on the wall that look exactly like tapes from police documents. The cloths she is wearing, the gun tattoo on her side, the black and white nature and the facial expression all point to something similar to what I said. Clearly their aim was for something along those lines as well, but I just find it disturbing.

I really can't figure out what's going on with her left breast in this pic. ??? I KNOW! When I first saw the pic that's what I though. It looks so fake and just out of shape really.

Hah, funny that you didn't even mention the blood spattered title, which is clearly the most violent aspect of the cover.

I was trying to connect it to the fact that it looks like police files hence the tapes but sure why not. Also the font that's used and the design is a direct imitation of police seals that are used such as the classified one. I realize she is going for the artistic aspect of it, but with everything that has happened to her (the Chris Brown incident and the leaked naked photos), this is just disturbing.

This era worries me... Maybe she's paying the price of overexposure she had during her last era.

I agree with the main gist of what you are saying. There is something not settling right with the whole look and tone of this era. I LOVE RR, but I feel like the era as a whole is not going to hit its mark. Not that that destroys her-she could probably run back to the studio and record a cd by Spring that would be a smash.

I agree. She is still a great artist as we have seen from before but the way they have made this era, it's all wrong. They were banking on the whole dark look thing and what happened to her, but it's clearly backfiring. No one wants depressing songs in November. No one wants a depressed person after a situation like that. It would have been so much better for her to come back with a strong image rather than a psychologically effected image.

This era worries me... Maybe she's paying the price of overexposure she had during her last era. I totally disagree that has anything to do with it. If she released radio friendly material like she did last era she'd be killing again. She was as exposed as Bey was in the BDAY era and look what she did with IASF. It's really just a matter of her not connecting like she did with audiences in the GGGB era because of the material. Nobody expected that RTT was such a look into her solo material to come but it really was. It's crazy to think but at this point Riris best chance for a hit is Urban radio.

Yeah I wish she had come out with something...sassier? I don't know. I don't necessarily mean upbeat and happy, but like I am Woman hear me roar. For some reason, very few examples are coming to mind-Some Destinys Child songs LOL. Along that vein of not necessarily bouncy happy pop, but sassy strong in your face pop. Almost everything I have heard from this cd sounds almost mournful even though (I must repeat) I LOVE Russian Roulette. I like some serious, mournful music. It just isn't clicking as an entire cd era from her, unfortunately.

This got old fast for me.
If the 3 songs released so far are the best of what this album has to offer then she is definitely in trouble. My guess is this whole project was rushed.

People support come backs. I'm not sure how to even classify this album. I feel emo listening to the songs lol

Something in the vein of Live Your Life ("life your life, brush off the hatas, CBRown won't keep me down) would have been so so so perfect as a lead-off single.

sometimes I wish she could've saved Breakin Dishes ... that would fit perfectly with the Rated R theme and the song is single material
people who aren't rihanna fans know that song
not sure it would be the right time with regard to the incident

I definitely knew that her album would be going in that direction because RTT was her track to begin with. She just decided to let Jay use it for his album. No, everyone won't like this album, but sometimes people just have to do what they feel. To me, it wouldn't have been real if she had come back all happy and talking about umbrellas like GGGB after we all witnessed what a horrible year she's had. I still think this song will be big and a lot of people like it. "Russian Roulette" was the wrong single choice, but she'll just move on. It's really not that serious.

The public is ruthless how can they turn their back on a girl that was recently battered???
I so much prefer these songs to those during the GGGB era. I have had RR stuck on my head for the last two days!!!

Overexposure is only an excuse for artists releasing poor material. No one cares how overexposed they are. If the material is lackluster, they will fail. If its amazing, it will succeed. End of story. I hate when people blame an era flopping on "overexposure". No.

Rihanna sounds very young on this track. It sounds like it could have come right off Music of the Sun.

lol, how is the whole album coming off as mourning? ??? russian roulette is depressing but the other songs are all about strong, empowering, confidence
i like all the songs so far, like them more than some songs on good girl gone bad.

omg i thought the same! it has everything to be a huge comeback song, it appeals to pop and urban, catchy and strong message but anyways, i think hard will be a hit for her...urban will continue to eat it up and hopefully then it can crossover--i think it can be a top 5 hot 100 for her

I believe in over expossure. Good albums don't always do well and bad albums have perfomred amazingly before.
When an artist is THRASHED OUT the media turns on them.

I just heard Rated R leaked. this album has potential singles to hit. LOVE fire bomb, te amo, cold case love. RiRi had to choose 'Fire Bomb' as 1st single. this song is flawless.
