Just saw this on CMT: Two Members of Dixie Chicks Releasing Album Without Natalie MainesMaines' Father Says Trio "Definitely Still an Entity" January 11, 2010; Written by Edward Morris Martie Maguire and Emily Robison of the Dixie Chicks will apparently have some new music out this year without lead vocalist Natalie Maines. However, the project's release date and musical direction remain unclear. The Chicks' management company referred questions on the matter to a New York publicist, who confirmed that Maguire and Robison, who are sisters, will release an album on Columbia Records, the Chicks' home label, without Maines. But the publicist provided no information on the album's title, release date or market aspirations. Lloyd Maines, Natalie's father, who co-produced the Chicks' 2002 album, Home, told CMT.com the sisters are "cutting some demos" and that Natalie had recorded "a little something with them ... about a year ago. I know that Martie's doing a fiddle record on her own and that Emily has been demoing some of her [own] songs. I played on some of those." The Texas-based producer says he doesn't think the three Chicks have yet decided how they might reincarnate their act. "They were all here at my house for Christmas," he says. "Everybody seemed happy and healthy. And they were back here on New Year's Eve with their families. Everybody had a great time, but, I tell you, during holidays, I don't ask any business questions, and they didn't offer any insight. ... But they're definitely still an entity. ... "I know that the girls seem really happy being out of the public eye. They hit it so hard for so many years. The dynamics have changed so much now because they've all got kids that are in school. The happy-go-lucky, just-take-off-and-go situation has definitely changed." Maguire's bluegrass album consists of fiddle tunes, a source close to the project says. Robison played banjo on "two or three" of the cuts with Scott Vestal handling banjo on the remainder. "It's old tunes she learned when she was a kid," Maines notes, "and she's going to do an instructional book along with it." Attempts to reach Columbia's A&R department were unsuccessful. www.cmt.com/news/country-music/1629456/two-members-of-dixie-chicks-releasing-album-without-natalie-maines.jhtmlSo I guess there will be an album from Emily and Martie, as well as a solo album from Martie, which sounds great to me, even if it is instrumental.

Two Dixie Chicks Rename Themselves as Court Yard HoundsEmily Robison and Martie Maguire of the Dixie Chicks have recorded an album under the name Court Yard Hounds, according to Rolling Stone. The band name is a reference to the novel, City of Thieves. Recorded largely at Maguire's home studio in Austin, Texas, the album is scheduled for May and will feature Robison on lead vocals for the first time, with an appearance from the Wallflowers' Jakob Dylan. The sisters will also perform as a duo at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin in March. As previously reported, Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines will not appear on the album, but Robison and Maguire emphasized to Rolling Stone that the Chicks have not formally parted ways. I am, however, quite interested in hearing what the Erwin sisters come up with without Natalie.

Folks, I've said this multiple times in this forum. Please don't post claims of fact unless you can back it up with a link to a credible source that the rest of us can read. Thanks.

Thought I would post this here instead of the Blue Sky thread since more people probably read this thread than that one. Also, this was posted on Facebook and thought since no one had posted it yet, that I would.
Emily West January 19 at 5:15pm Report NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 19, 2010) – “Emily West is an original,” Keith Urban says in “Introducing: Emily West,” premiering Wednesday, January 27, 9:30 p.m./Eastern on Great American Country. “She has so much personality and energy and her spirit and her light are so compelling.”
West was an 8-year-old in Waterloo, Iowa when she first heard a Patsy Cline record and decided she wanted to sing. “I wanted to be in a pageant at the Holiday Inn in Muscatine. My mom asked, ‘Well, what are you going to do in the talent competition?’ and I go, ‘I’m going to sing a Patsy Cline song.’” Footage of a tiny West belting “Walkin’ After Midnight” is featured in the special. Several years later during a family trip to Nashville a 13-year-old West performed two songs at the famed Nashville Palace and some performance footage is also included.
West’s mom, Susan Nemmers, knew that her youngest child would move to Nashville after high school. “When she left I just had this feeling. I thought, ‘She’s not coming back.’ and she didn’t. All of my kids have pretty much fulfilled their dreams and I know that her dreams will come true.” Pursuing her bliss has not always been easy and West speaks honestly about the ups and downs of her chosen career.
Viewers get to go backstage with West for her debut Opry appearance, an experience she’ll never forget. “It was a little overwhelming,” she recalls. “It was one of those full circle moments where you’re trying so hard to get your dream to come true and it finally happens. It was surreal.”
There’s also a trip back home to Waterloo that includes a visit to her former elementary school and chats with her mom, dad and sister. During a sitdown interview with her hometown paper she acknowledges that doing interviews is a job perk but that you also have to field tough questions.
West’s forthcoming single, “Blue Sky,” (co-written with Gary Burr) features Urban. It tackles the topic of her parents’ divorce after 32 years of marriage and she treats viewers to an acoustic performance of the song (minus Urban). And while she’s the first to admit that she has no idea how things will play out, West remains committed. “We don’t know where our lives are going to go but I love this business because it’s passion and it’s a risk.”

Is tonight's country update failing to load for anyone else? The link opens fine without a "not found," but the progress bar stalls out halfway and it just says "loading..." forever without actually loading.

There's a thread in another forum on American Idol but I thought I'd post here that Shania was an incredible judge on AI last night. Much better than I thought she'd be. Substantive, friendly, funny, helpful. The other judges are usually bad but looked really bad sitting next to hear last night.

Sony Signs Jordyn ShellhartSony Music Nashville has signed Jordyn Shellhart, a 15-year old singer/songwriter from Franklin, Tenn. The label group will distribute her first album, In A Room, later this summer. Shellhart got her start by performing for Frank Rogers and Chris Dubois. It was the day after her 14th birthday and Sea Gayle Music offered her a publishing deal on the spot. Her entire debut was recorded in a room at her manager Rick Barker’s house, using only instruments and sound equipment available at Best Buy. In conjunction, Shellhart is set for a series of summer performances as part of Best Buy’s @15 initiative, which helps give teenagers a voice. Sony says Shellhart is a straight “A” student at Centennial High School, and that the sophomore is adamant about graduating before pursuing a full-fledged country music career. Great to see her being so bubbly. She offered great criticism and really showed she deserved to be there. I miss her.
