I think the part of the article about new songs from album 5 was just wishful thinking on the writer's part. Would be nice though. I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Why is it so different when Kelly does it? I am genuinely curious. IMO, I think it's just time she doesn't give her little State of the Union(aka Music Industry) every single month. I was fine with her calling out people who have wronged her and her speaking up for herself but come on, we KNOW that not ALL of pop radio is pleasing or meaningful but don't resort to dissing what has gotten you thus far.

My opinion still stands...she just has a really big mouth and although I am a HUGE fan of her and her music. There must be some sort of boundary especially with the words she used in that tweet.

She has turned me off lately with her negative comments. I appreciate her concern with live vocals and the lack of substance on radio, but I really haven't been in love with her material in a while and she has a great voice. I have always liked her and knew she'd win Idol from the first time i saw her sing. she needs to do something more like 'walk away'.

They bleeped her out a ton on that interview, and in places where it didn't seem like it would make sense that she was swearing. Especially around the lesbian rumor part...is Malaysian radio especially sensitive to that? Weird.

The Malaysians take their censorship seriously: www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/10/20/2718674.htmFortunately for Kelly, she's one of the few female pop stars who won't have the problem of having to alter her concert wardrobe much to comply with the local standards.

Kelly Clarkson due to perform in Auckland Kelly Clarkson has sold more than 20 million records worldwide, but her lifestyle is very much that of an anti-popstar. The 27-year-old, whose massive voice shot her to stardom after winning the first series of American Idol in 2002, still lives with her family in Texas, and says the people she surrounds herself with are "very normal". "I'm about to go paint one of my garages with my nieces and my mom and my sister," she says during this interview. "My brother - this is gonna sound really funny - but he and my brother-in-law have a man cave that girls aren't allowed in, so we've decided to make a she-cave. It's all about healthy family competition." Healthy is a buzzword associated with Clarkson, who is hailed as a role model for young girls because of her wholesome lifestyle and curvy figure. "I'm very different. I fluctuate, I'm a girl, and sometimes I'm thinner and sometimes I'm thicker. I'm always happy and healthy and I think that's what counts. "That's why a lot of times I'm asked to do these events with young girls or role model-style things, because it's okay to be normal, you don't have to be perfect, not everybody's born that way." Clarkson says she hasn't felt pressure to look a certain way in years, although she has been a victim of airbrushing by women's magazines, which she says was "insulting". "I'm perfectly fine with the way I am and if you're not happy with how I am then don't have me on the cover of your magazine. "It's just a little upsetting because I don't really think there's anything wrong with me, so it's a little upsetting to say that there is something wrong with me like, erase my face." Clarkson prefers instead to concentrate on her music, and spends a large chunk of her days on the road. She's about to perform in New Zealand for the first time, with a single show at Auckland's Vector Arena on Sunday. Two 2005 performances scheduled for New Zealand were cancelled after Clarkson got pneumonia while on tour in Australia. This time around, she's in New Zealand early to see the sights and play golf before performing. And if she wasn't performing, Clarkson says she'd "be screwed". "I have no other talents. I'm a realistic girl, I can admit that. This is just my thing." One of the most successful winners of an Idol competition, Clarkson humbly attributes much of her success to "the aligning of the stars". "I don't really focus on the whole being famous or being the most popular singer on the planet so maybe that had something to do with it." And of notoriously-blunt American Idol judge Simon Cowell's plans to leave the show after the current season (the show's ninth season), Clarkson says, simply: "He's probably bored", but "obviously the show won't be the same without him". Clarkson says the judge, known for his scathing criticism of contestants, has "always been a really big supporter" of her. "Simon and I, we're not like BFFs, we don't comb each other's hair or anything but he's always been really forward and honest with me and nice, and I have been likewise." Retirement won't be on the cards anytime soon for Clarkson, however. The star, who turns 28 later this month, says she plans keep performing as long as she enjoys it. "I might be on a stage when I'm older but I have no desire to be Madonna or U2 or something like that. I hope I'm not like that "I hope I know when to quit. I hope I don't sacrifice too much. That's really my goal." Kelly Clarkson performs at Auckland's Vector Arena on April 11 tvnz.co.nz/entertainment-news/kelly-clarkson-due-perform-in-auckland-3455938

Kelly Clarkson happy to be here Kelly Clarkson says she got "yelled at" by Kiwi fans when she cancelled her last tour to New Zealand but the pop star will try to make up for it this weekend. Clarkson, the very first winner of TV reality show and singing contest American Idol, cancelled two New Zealand performances in 2005 when doctors diagnosed pneumonia at the end of her Breakaway world tour and ordered her home. The 27-year-old Texas resident, who will perform at Auckland's Vector Arena on Sunday night, said her New Zealand fans didn't take the news well. "Brother, I got yelled at," she told Stuff.co.nz. "People were really mad. I get it, especially being so far away. It's like, 'Oh God, when is she going to come back?' "We're coming so I hope people like the show." Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted world tour began in October and is in support of her fourth album of the same name. The Grammy winner said it was her favourite tour out of the seven she had completed since winning Idol in 2000. "I'm glad because if you're going to see me for the first time this is the one I'd want you to see," she said. "I basically wail my butt off for an hour and a half. I jump up and down and get the crowd involved (and) we sing all the songs people are looking forward to." Asked if she knew much about New Zealand, Clarkson said her only knowledge came from a friend - and the film trilogy Lord of the Rings. Warned there were no actual hobbits roaming around the countryside, Clarkson joked: "I'm coming, and I'm pretty damned short." Clarkson had runaway success with the single Since U Been Gone, from the 2004 album Breakaway, and scored a Grammy award for the track. But she admitted she never anticipated her Idol success would lead into a long-term musical career. "What's funny is I didn't want to win. I was so afraid whoever won was going to have to do exactly what the record label wanted and we wouldn't have a say. "I was a little freaked out but I won and I really put my foot down and I ended up putting out that first single that I got to write on." Battling her record label over her image in the first few years of her career led to depression, Clarkson said. "The first few years were really rough with the people I worked with. It honestly sent me spiralling down into depression. I quickly got out of that and got away from those people. "Life is too short to be surrounded by such negativity and arrogance. It's one of those things I had to learn the hard way, but I'm happy now." While she no longer watched Idol as she was always on tour, Clarkson's advice to winners was to try not to worry about writing hit songs. "What makes a hit song is you not worrying so much about being a hit song person. It's never been a goal of mine. Obviously it's a huge goal for my record label (but) my goal is to write music that will be relatable. "The best thing in the world is when you turn on the radio and hear a song that feels like it was written for you or examines a situation that you were going through at the same time. That's the type of music I like writing. Attending celebrity events and playing up to the image of a female pop star - like current chart-toppers Lady Gaga and Katy Perry - wasn't something she tried to do. "I'm not the person looking to have famous friends. I have a lot of great friends and I just happen to love doing something that's in the public eye. "Right now I'm at home with my dogs and my family and I'm having the time of my life." www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music/3566462/Kelly-Clarkson-happy-to-be-here

Those were great interviews to read, thanks Berry! I especially like the first one:
"I'm very different. I fluctuate, I'm a girl, and sometimes I'm thinner and sometimes I'm thicker. I'm always happy and healthy and I think that's what counts.
"That's why a lot of times I'm asked to do these events with young girls or role model-style things, because it's okay to be normal, you don't have to be perfect, not everybody's born that way."
Clarkson says she hasn't felt pressure to look a certain way in years, although she has been a victim of airbrushing by women's magazines, which she says was "insulting".
"I'm perfectly fine with the way I am and if you're not happy with how I am then don't have me on the cover of your magazine.
"It's just a little upsetting because I don't really think there's anything wrong with me, so it's a little upsetting to say that there is something wrong with me like, erase my face."
Instead of getting in further debates about her weight, I think we should just copy and paste these quotes and leave it at that.

She was probably talking about 'blah blah blah' in that twitter and she's right, it's stupid crap. There, both of us said it.
And her saying in the interview Madonna is too old to still be out there and doesn't know when to quit- I say 'she's so right.'

And her saying in the interview Madonna is too old to still be out there and doesn't know when to quit- I say 'she's so right.' She did sound like she was thinking that; then again, she also mentioned U2, and in one of the other interviews this week she said she'd love to sing with Bono. So, maybe that's an overreading of her comments.

(For selfish reasons) I hate when Kelly and Carrie say they won't be doing this at a certain age because it makes me feel like we'll get maybe three or four more albums and then no more. :'(
Otherwise, excellent interview.

Probably both of them will take some time off to have a family, but after that...I can't speak to Carrie, but I think Kelly in particular loves performing live too much to walk away from it as long as she has the voice for it.

Paul McCartney I think said the same thing- yet he's almost 70 and going strong. You never know- if you can still sing well, which no doubt Kelly will be, she'll probably still be giving concerts.

ETERNAL IDOL: Kelly Clarkson has sold 23 million albums. Source: Supplied This American Idol says she would have been just as happy with a career fronting a band in bars IT'S the first Kelly Clarkson has heard of the Whitney Houston brouhaha. She's excited to hear the one-time Queen of American pop vocal gymnasts (Clarkson's own oeuvre) is touring again. When told that Houston's performance - in the very same Brisbane venue she's scheduled to play - stirred some controversy and even had some asking for their money back, she is floored. "Are you kidding? For Whitney Houston? Oh my god, that's craaaazy!" she says. "Oh my god, I would cry." Clarkson breaks off into laughter at the thought. "I'd be just like, `OK, well, grab a beer. I promise it'll get better.' Man, that sucks." That is kind of the talk you would expect from a singer who claims she would have been as happy with a career fronting a covers band in bars. The Texan native is all the more believable with quips like this: " If you're looking for an old school show and ah, beer, that's usually my show to go to." She certainly has the pub circuit band leader's eagerness to please a crowd. At the end of the interview, Clarkson asks whether Delta Goodrem and Keith Urban will go down well in Australia. She already has an acoustic AC/DC cover down but she's worried this is "too predictable". Clarkson has been using Twitter to take requests and corresponding with an Australian and a New Zealand DJ. At this stage, her set list is a work-in-progress, a piece of paper sitting among all the other "crap" she's sifting through on her desk. The original American Idol, eight years on still the show's biggest-selling discovery with 23 million records worldwide, doesn't plan to be doing this pop star thing years from now. Hits-then-quits seems a perfectly rational strategy when Clarkson, 27, mulls over the impossibility of raising normal, well-adjusted children in this situation. "I don't know how people have families with children that wouldn't come out dysfunctional," she says. The touring, watching family members growing up in pictures, the self-promotion and one of the ostensible rewards for it all, the attention, aren't doing it for her. "Honestly, I'm very different from a lot of people in the limelight, I have found," Clarkson says. "And not in a good or bad way. I don't really crave to be, well, obviously I'm not in magazines or anything. I live in Texas and I always will and I love it. The only time I'm ever really in the limelight is when I'm on tour and doing promotional work. "But it's just really not my thing, I don't really find anything satisfying out of it." Unlike a certain other pop star she is thinking of but too good-natured to name. "I just pity them in the fact they don't realise what they are actually missing," she says. "A lot of times in our line of work, you just get lost in it. And it's very easy to because obviously you have so many yes-people around." So Clarkson enjoys pop stardom for now, making hay while the sun shines and knowing the game well enough to recognise where the pay-offs are. "Usually what's funny is people see me live and they're like, well I was not expecting that," she says. "Because on record, I mean, obviously I've realised I'm a pop star so you have to play stuff, for radio that's a little more ear candy. And then on stage you get to have more fun with it." Hardly AC/DC, she says, but "definitely in your face". www.couriermail.com.au/entertainment/music/kelly-clarkson-is-a-texas-down-home-diva/story-e6freqgx-1225852311292

But anyway, I've enjoyed these past few interviews. She's sounded like her typical fun self in them, and provided great responses to the usual weight and fame questions.
