I agree Desi. She needs bring the big "guns" out..lol I'm fine with not even Gnr but maybe something else similar. I'm looking forward to see what she does for classic country too.

I'm going to disagree about the big metal songs. I'm over them (and I think "Home Sweet Home" isn't that great a song in the first place). The vocal firepower and country-rock of songs like "Last Name" and "Undo It" render the metal covers redundant, in my view, and I'm happy and relieved to hear different qualities in Carrie's voice via covers like "Take Me Home, Country Road" and "Chasin' the Neon Rainbow" (I agree that the latter needs work, but mostly because Carrie and Craig played it so casual and didn't seem to know what to do with each other on stage). It might even be a good move to cut the big metal songs given that Carrie is doing a longer and more vocally demanding set each night. But most of all, I think a nearly two hour set needs variety (in volume and style), and I think Carrie has been smart to use her cover choices to add to the variety in her set. I won't be able to watch the "9 to 5" cover until tonight; on paper, that isn't the most inspired choice, but I'll obviously reserve judgment. I do agree with leilamaurizia that "Summer of '69" turned out surprisingly well. But the cover I've gone back to several times is "Take Me Home, Country Road." I love the choice and that Carrie is doing a bluegrassy version of it. It isn't nearly as pretty as John Denver's original, but it totally works for me.

Thanks for the updates all. Those Allure photos are striking. She just gets more natural and comfortable taking pictures and it shows.

"That dress was hard to get into, oh my gosh, it basically stood up by itself, so I had to, like, crawl in. I had to have people carry it. I didn't have to walk in it, I was stationary, but a funny thing happened afterward. The curtains were supposed to close, and then everyone would get on the stage to help me. The curtains never came down, so I was just standing there, and the host kept going. So I just started gathering it all up, and everybody started laughing." Awww Carrie lol! That must had been hilarious to see!! P.S- I was 16th in most post in the last thread...making a name for myself ;)

I'm going to disagree about the big metal songs. I'm over them (and I think "Home Sweet Home" isn't that great a song in the first place). I'm not a fan of the metal covers either. HSH and Paradise City in particular I would more than happy to never hear again. Screaming at high volumes to is not appealing to me and I'd much rather hear Carrie (or anyone, really) sing songs with decent melodies.

I enjoyed the 9 to 5 cover, but the Alan Jackson one was really uncomfortable. I honestly don't think Carrie and Craig have any chemistry. It seems like the only time they see each other is during the sow and the promo appearances they have to go to together. With her previous opening acts, Carrie's had some kind of connection - Josh Turner, Little Big Town - and it showed when they did stuff together. The Neon Rainbow cove was just... really, really awkward.
EDIT: Side note - I cannot believe how emotionall invested Carrie is in IKYW. The places she takes a breath, her mannerisms, it all adds up to create a truly haunting environment. She plays the part of desperation so well in that song. Plus, the vocal is stronger than ever - it really is a showstopper. If Arista ever wants to release something from previous CDs, re-record IKYW and release that sucker. Amazing.

Keep in mind that the night Carrie and Craig performed the Alan Jackson cover, nobody had a chance to do soundcheck that day due to the delay.

I didn't think the Alan Jackson cover was that bad. They blended harmonies nicely, anyway. I do love the Country Roads cover, actually, but I am not so keen on 9-5. When I think 80s, I think metal hair bands or Wham or Cyndi Lauper. lol
Carrie should cover a Journey song. She could totally nail "Faithfully" or Open Arms, etc.

Oooh Carrie's got a new dress for the JAD/TH segment. Very glamorous ball gown it looks like. Video from Portland: Funky skirt for WCIS too: More Portland vids from xxkatfan. Looks like the truck went by almost directly right above the videographer! www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsgE4AMvmEII swear half the fun of being a Carrie fan is finding out what she's going to wear next, lol. She is just SO pretty.

lyrichord, thanks for posting those videos, that user has a lot of clips from the concert. I could watch videos from this tour for hours, the show's amazing, and she looks so happy and relaxed. I love that she does something different for every song, and wears something different haha. I don't like some of the outfits but she's so beautiful that it doesn't even matter.

LOL funny tweet:
nlevenbrown: The best thing about being a guy at a Carrie Underwood concert is that I don't have a line by the bathroom.

In the better-late-than-never department... jeff and robrt30, what was your impression of the venue acoustics and sound mix? Carrie's voice sounds impressively clear in the videos, a credit to you and the other videographers, for sure, but I'm wondering if Carrie's sound people are doing a better job of ensuring that she can be heard over the band without having to really belt over them. I thought it was pretty good. It was definitely at least a solid B, maybe even a B+. Reading is a minor league hockey arena. I've been to better venue acoustics, but I've definitely been to a lot worse too. It did sound like the sound mix was a lot better at this one, although I couldn't really tell if it was due to a concentrated effort or if it was just because of the seating arrangements. Carrie is very much front & center now while the band is noticeably seated a good distance behind her. On top of that, front row in the audience was even a few feet away from the stage. I'm not sure if it's like that at every show now or if that was just the way Reading was set up. So...perhaps there was a concentrated effort to make the band less loud or perhaps it was just the spacing. I'm not sure yet. The next show I'm going to will be the first time that I've seen Carrie perform at the same indoor venue twice. I'll be able to make a good comparison of the two shows at that one.

one would think that after Idol, Kara would give her site a little pimp and at least make it more attractive, but that looks like the Frontpage sites I used to kid around back when I was 12/13... and leave the Mama singing to Carrie, Kara... As a singer, you're an ok songwriter!! ;)

I still think its such a pity that Carrie didn't take 'Mama's Song' to a better writer than Kara. Its a great idea for a song and Carrie sings it with so much sincerity, but for me the lack of development in the lyrics highlight the difference between good pop writers and great country writers. I mean what is it about this guy that makes his so special, they never develop the lyrics beyond 'he is good' and what is it about her mama and their relationship that makes it worthy of a song. I think its this lack of development in the lyrics that really stop people relating to the lyrics, and ultimately connecting to the song.

Wow. The9513 isn't even trying to convince us they like her anymore. I wonder if Jim wrote the last part about Carrie's delivery. Seems that's the only compliment she'll ever get. Seriously, comparing the song to a turd? Come on now.

I think its this lack of development in the lyrics that really stop people relating to the lyrics, and ultimately connecting to the song. This. I keep wondering how four people sitting in a room could possibly decide that "he is good, soooo gooood" constitutes a decent lyric worth repeating ad infinatum. The melody is kind of pretty and the lyrics in the second verse are lovely but the rest of it is a cheesetastic mess. I definitely think countrier writers could have done a better job. Although to be fair AAG has the same callback in the third verse as the first in a lazy attempt to make things full circle. It bugs me more in MS though, because the last verse ceases to even be about mama anymore and strikes me as a self indulgent fantasy. It's one thing to say, I hope to be as great a mom as you, and quite another to say, I hope my nonexistent future daughter meets as great a guy as I did. Of course, that only works if the chorus is about mama, and the verses about growing up and meeting this great guy. The structure of the track as constructed really is Mike Fisher's song (tm jeff).

"Mama's Song" is far from being my fave song on the album and her TV/Walmart Soundcheck performances of it didn't change my opinion, but I gotta say... seeing how it's performed in concert, I've fallen deeply in love with it. I can't stop watching the concert video actually. Carrie's sincerity and mushiness in her performance, and especially that HUGE grin she makes when their pic is flashed, have been indelibly printed in my memory. So even though I know the lyrics suck, I really don't care anymore I'm not by any means similarly situated as her in the love department, but when she sings the song, she makes me feel like I'm all tingly and in love and feeling blessed that I've finally found that guy. If the quality of a song is determined, at least in part, by the feeling it evokes in the listener... heck, this is a brilliant song when it comes to this listener!

How many hits on their site do you guys think they've gotten already from the "Undo It" review? Lots! That's what they want basically. What I don't get is why they get so much attention. It's a blog! So Carrie almost always gets a bad rap there. So her singles always get thumbs downs. Does that really matter? If Jim Malec (the blog's big guy) suddenly reverses his opinion and declares his love for her, does that mean she's really a real artist then and we were right in our fandom all along? No! No need to wonder why one single gets TWO thumbs down reviews or why an unannounced as-of-yet third single suddenly has a review. It's because it gets their blog hits! They only have power if you give them power.[/rant over] I can dig it. So anyways, a review appeared but it makes it seem like Carrie danced all night long and failed at. (Not saying she would succeed at dancing all night, lmao, but come on now.) Source

A radio station tweeted som great photos from the CT show last night! twitter.com/965tic965tic: Check out the photos from last night's Carrie Underwood show in Bridgeport! Carrie Underwood in Bridgeport __________________ ^Wow I am even more convinced now that Jim Malec of the 9513 is Scott Borchetta in disguise. Thank god for Blake as he is always fair and impartial in his reviews there. Entertainment weekly loved undo it and named It on their must have list. I value their opinion much more and I think the song is a great choice for the next single. It is going to be a smash summer hit and Carrie will laugh her way to the bank at yet another biased review from this blog. ^Lmao at the line about Carrie dancing. She doesn't dance at all on the tour unless I missed something? Lol. She does move around a lot more on stage then ever before but I wouldn't consider that dancing. Confused. Otherwise that was another great review for the tour.
