I've had the same thought.
I don't think it's about dancing in the choregraphed sense, but more about her general movement. When I saw her in concert 2 years ago, the person I went with made robot movements to mimic her. She was really stiff and unnatural in her movements. It was just awkward and it made us uncomfortable to watch. I remember thinking, "man, she really needs to get stoned or something" and that's not something I ever go around thinking about people! (I didn't think that literally, it's just an indication of how struck I was by how she needed to loosen up.)
That said, I think she has improved a lot over the last 2 years. I don't think she'll ever be a dancer, but she seems more relaxed and natural.
After that concert I said I wouldn't see her again in an arena setting, but the videos of this tour have intrigued me a lot, and I may just eat my words. I'm also loving the reports of better sound mixing/acoustics because that was the other big problem with our arena show.

Carrie's Bridgeport show last night was spectacular! She is also a great, sweet person as well. The meet and greet was really a highlight of my life. :)

Wow I am even more convinced now that Jim malec of the 9513 is Scott borchetta in disguise. According to the byline, this 9513 review was written by Juli Thanki, not Jim Malec. That the writer considers "Temporary Home" evidence that Carrie is a "pretty good songwriter" should have been a tipoff that it isn't Malec. Interesting discussion on "Mama's Song." The lyrics don't bug me nearly as much as they should, so I guess leilamaurizia's comments from today apply for me, as well. beneficial is absolutely right that the lyrics suffer from a lack of specificity (something that is characteristic of most Kara DioGuardi co-writes). But in this case, Carrie's voice fills in the necessary emotional blanks (at least as far as I'm concerned). For all of its inelegance, the song feels to me like something a young woman would say to her mom, just a pure, so-bursting-with-emotion-that-she-doesn't-have-the-words statement of faith in the man she has chosen (or that she really is putting her life in the hands of God, I suppose -- lyrichord, I think that interpretation still kind of works with that last verse, because I guess the young woman would be hoping that her kid will discover God in his/her own way? I concede that the more obvious interpretation fits better, as you say). "Undo It" as the next single? My choice would be "Songs Like This," and there really isn't another uptempo song on Play On for which I could muster much enthusiasm as a single. "Undo It" is, for me, an example of a frustrating Carrie co-write (well, frustrating is overstating it, but it feels like song potential squandered) -- it is in the same category as "All-American Girl" in that regard. Both songs have very catchy, engaging melodies but don't quite deliver on a good kernel of an idea. The chorus-bridge and bridge-to-tag-chorus transitions in the song are quite jagged, and I've already voiced my objections (as have several others) to the production in the chorus. The verses sound terrific, but the lyrics in the verses aren't quite sharp enough. I don't mind the lyrics in the chorus at all, though, I think there's a sort of colloquial bluesy punch to "You took my happy." In the end, I don't dislike it, but the song does leave me with a few "What if?"s. I also think "Undo It" is a good singalong song on a subject that will resonate with many women. And I wouldn't be surprised to see it released. After all, Jason Aldean is the hottest act on country radio with a similar country-meets-Southern-rock-meets-blues sound, and, as Typo pointed out in the Country forum a while back, "Undo It" is in a similar sonic space to Blake Shelton's current #1, "Hillbilly Bone." Where "Undo It" differs from Jason and Blake's songs is, of course, in not relying on the typical redneck tropes (thank goodness), and the production in "Undo It"'s chorus does go farther than Jason and Blake's have ( so unnecessary to take the raw out of Carrie's voice on this one!). But I want to go back to beneficial's excellent point about Carrie's writing collaborations. In the absence of the kind of inspiration that drove "Temporary Home," I agree that Carrie needs co-writers with the wherewithal to push her. I find myself listening to a song like "Undo It," "All-American Girl" or "Play On" and wishing that someone had said to Carrie, "OK, this is a very good draft. Now, let's tighten the lyrics up a bit and really give them some narrative and emotional punch." With these songs, it feels to me like Carrie is just a step away from getting it right -- so close! It would just take a few well-placed details to serve as hooks. "Unapologize" has pretty much the opposite issue -- some compelling lyrical moments sandbagged by a mediocre melody. "Temporary Home" and "What Can I Say" (and, for that matter, "Last Name," "Crazy Dreams" and "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore") established pretty well for me that Carrie brings enough to the table as a writer for that to be something worth further exploration. I like her topical breadth, and even when Carrie is writing about relationships, she seems pretty good at honing in on an emotional angle that hasn't been overdone. But going forward, I do hope that she challenges herself with writers who can help her craft better narratives and to find more vivid language in which to express her ideas. I think Carrie is more likely to find those writers in country music. That's not to say that she can't bring writers from other genres into the mix, but I think she needs better lyricists than Kara DioGuardi if she does. I did get around to watching Carrie's "9 to 5" from her concert in...Portland, I think? I enjoyed it -- her voice sounds terrific. It isn't a song that I expected Carrie to take to easily, but she seemed to do so pretty naturally. ETA: robrt30, thanks so much for your comments on venue acoustics and the sound mix. I would love to hear more from you on the subject after your next show.

I think "Songs like this" should be the next single. It's already closing out her shows, so why not promote that? Plus it's just better than "Undo It". If UI is the next single, then the choices so far have gone along with the fanclub voting. I hope that trend doesn't continue because that means to the fanclub members "Someday when I stop loving you" is the 7th best song. Which is just wrong.
On another fanclub note, I hope that country classic wins somtime soon.

Oooh I really like that cover of 9-5. Dolly Parton has a such a distinctive voice, that it's hard to not at least unconsciously mimic it, but she does a good job of making it her own.
On a side not, I'm digging her dress. A lot.

I have never liked Dolly's "Nine to Five", but I love the way Carrie sings it. She has the ability to put her own spin on just about everything she sings. :)

Do you guys have any idea why she changed the Bryan Adams song to the Motley Crue song for Rock night? I wondered why the change until I heard that Martina is also singing Summer of 69 on her tour right now, so I wonder if Carrie heard this and decided to change the songs?
^ kungaloosh--- you would definitely find Carrie much more loose and relaxed on stage this tour. I was impressed because I have seen her live as early as 2006, when she was still quite timid and lacked confidence on stage. I agree she used to be a little stiff in movements, but she has grown light years since Idol. Each year, I found she has gotten better at her stage presence, and the critics seem to agree. She doesn't really dance per se, though, so I still don't get that comment in the CT article.
This tour, I didn't see any trace of nerves or stiffness. She ran around the stage and moved alot constantly, in a more natural, loose manner. I wonder if it is a combination of her being so happy in her personal life that she no longer cares as much what people think, so she is having fun on stage for the first time? It really shows.
^ Dudley, I am far from an expert on the sound issue, but for what it is worth, I did see Carrie at the same venue for the Carnival Ride tour as the Play On tour in Albany, and I noticed that the band is not drowning Carrie out anymore. They sit far back from her, and while they do an amazing job, the focus seems to be on her vocals. The sound mix seems clear, almost crystal clear. It appears to me that this is a top of the line sound system, as Carrie's vocals were crystal clear for every single song. She has never sounded better.

I think we'll probably be getting new songs for each category. I'm guessing she re-did 9-5 because she forgot the lyrics the first time.

I would guess a lot of the pix in the tour book are also featured on the other merchandise in the updated online store. I'm going to the concert Sunday and I'll definitely get a program and scan it in if no one else does it first. The CR tourbook is very hard to top though--those pictures were stunning. I guess I missed my chance to find out whether the acoustic setup is really improved since I saw the CR tour in the Providence arena, but I skipped that show this time since last time all I could hear was Helium!Carrie at that venue (same for the Mohegan Sun). She sounded much better to my ears for the fall tour stop in Boston. I think Carrie's pretty good at picking out which parts of the show are awkward and modifying things as she goes along. The main thing I noticed during the CR tour that I thought was majorly awkward was when she tried to guitar jam with one of the band members and they were facing each other, but then she dumped that segment for the second leg of the tour and cascaded down the catwalk while playing guitar instead (the first leg of the tour did not have a catwalk IIRC). I'll be very interested in seeing how much the show evolves after her summer break. I think we'll probably be getting new songs for each category. I'm guessing she re-did 9-5 because she forgot the lyrics the first time. Hm, not sure about that. Craig seemed to think he'd be singing with her "every other day" or so, and I wouldn't think that they've got 10 different duets worked out. But who knows.

I have noticed that she seems more relaxed and natural. It's why I'm "eating my words" and reconsidering another arena concert, assuming she comes to my area in the 2nd leg. That plus the comments/videos of the sound mixing are very promising. Also I love all the bells and whistles; I think they add a lot of visual interest and fun to her show, without detracting. Thanks Typo and lyrichord for the scans and promise of more scans!

Dudley, I found this vid to be a pretty good representation of the quality of the audio. It's from the Bridgeport concert. Even far away, the video shows not too much reverb in the arena.
Of course, it sounds pretty damn good with my subwoofer!

Carrie took off the entire week after the ACMS in April, which is the week of Idol Gives Back. So I would bet she will at least do Idol Gives Back again this year.
Maybe that is why she wasn't involved in alot of the Haiti telethons, etc. I noticed Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry were also absent from them, so maybe they are also going to take part in the Idol Gives Back thing?

I love Undo It and think it is the perfect Summer song. Plus it is a Carrie cowrite so that is likely why it was picked over Songs Like This for now. I am just hoping that they still release a mid-tempo down the road as either This Time or Quitter would show a different side to Carrie. But I do love Undo It.UnDo It sounds amazing live in concert. It was definitely a crowd favorite.
Carrie mentioned that there are 6-7 potential singles on the album, so it is possible that Songs Like This will still be released later on. SLT was also incredible live, to be honest.

On the topic of audio quality, this clip of Temporary Home from Portland is incredibly clear: Carrie's voice with the spare acoustic instruments is :o xoMichelleF's youtube channel for more awesome quality stuff.

Next album, I want Carrie to stick with the Country writers.
Something tells me will get a more light-hearted Carrie next go-around. I'm looking forward to that.

"Undo It" will sell albums. That is why it's being released. I think it's a shame. While I love the song, I much prefer "Quitter" as a single. It's so different and I think it's very memorable.
But "Undo It" is as catchy as catchy gets. Very....anthemic, is that the right word. After a handful of listens, the casual radio listener will be singing along with the chorus. A handful more of listens and they know the whole song.
That's what generally gives radio success. And that's what normally sells albums.
It worked for Shania.
