It's sad to say, but Mariah's one of those artists who'll probably get more recognition once she's gone. I think people have slowly started taking her a bit more seriously as an actual legend and respectable musician since the Mimi era, and hopefully that will continue in the same direction for years to come. As for Beyonce, it does seem baffling that she would be so far ahead of Mariah on a list like that, but then again it's also baffling that she has so many Grammys. She is great, don't get me wrong, but she's never made anything near the level of Butterfly, and until she does, I find it hard to believe she'd be considered a greater artist than Mariah. Anyways, we all know the truth about Mariah. I still say she's one of the most misunderstood musicians of our time, but as long we fans stick by her side and let her know she's the greatest, no worries really. Actually Butterfly is just a classic album among lambs, is incredible how this project had a real connection with her fans, but for the general public Butterfly is hardly viewed as a classic , in fact I have never seen "Butterfly" in any list of most influential albums or the best albums of all time..."Daydream" is usually ranked by critics as her strongest effort to date and was also the peak of her career, in terms of ww sales , power of voice and successful ww tour with her voice in a really good shape and giving us some of her best live vocals to date. From Butterfly onwards, she started to have a slowly but steady decline until Glitter came and almost destroyed her career, but her talent brought her back to the game in 2005. I'm not sure how she'll be viewed after her death, if she dies young she'll probably become an icon, if she dies old not so much. I'm afraid she'll just be seen as a top seller and for having the most number ones hits of a female artist (if Rihanna doesn't catch up) but won't be viewed as a highly talented artist.

You are kinda contradicting yourself there- you said her "talent brought her back in 05" and then you said she "won't be viewed as a highly talented artist." She is quite talented, and I think most give her credit for that, and view her in that light. And Rihanna isn't going to catch up.

^ Yeah, I think he meant that she won't be viewed as an icon. There's no denying to her talent even now and she's already viewed as one of the greatest singers of all time.
What are Rihanna's stats? Do any of you know? Number of #1's, top 10's, etc.? Please, no need to turn this into a Mariah vs. Rihanna thing, I'm just curious about her numbers.

Right. Even in the tone of her voice, they look really similar too.

Please, no need to turn this into a Mariah vs. Rihanna thing, I'm just curious about her numbers.Rihanna has like 7 #1's on the Hot 100 and she's just 22 or 23 y.o , Mariah has 18 #1's and holds the record of most #1 singles by a female artist and any other solo artist in history, she's just behind The Beatles. But Riri puts out a new album every year (she'll soon release a new single) and since people don't bother to buy her albums and just download the singles, is not out of reality that she has a great chance in surpass Mariah's record in 10 years time, if she keeps getting 2#1's singles per year. And yes, Mariah has a great talent, but currently its overshadowed by her image of wako diva and foolish behaviour - i'm not saying she's all that I'm writing, I'm just stating that this is her image to the general public nowadays.

She's closing her eyes because she is trying to tune out the sirens in the background. Bless her heart. She does look a LOT like Mariah though. Her speaking voice even sounds exactly like her. Scary Carey.

I wonder if Mariah still talks to her sister at all? I think there is some bad blood there - I believe Allison was shopping a book that claimed she prostituted herself to fund Mariah's career, or something along that line....not sure how true that is, but, Mariah will not/can't talk about Alison in interviews etc.

Mariah is a Legend/Icon and all of that in between period. She's an Vocalist/Artist/Musician/Writer/Producer/Hitmaker and etc. She can do it all. She's one of the greatest artists period. The woman just has it. She's one of the most versatile artists ever, and can create and bounce from genre to genre.

^Yeah, I suspect she'll make her usual smart comments about her but who cares? I didn't even know who Chelsea Handler was until she started dissing Mariah.

Is anybody else worried that Chelsea Handler is going to make fun of Mariah at the VMAs?? I'm kind of thinking she might hold it back at least for the VMAs. I remember there was one episode on her show where she talked about Mariah and Nick getting together and she didn't diss her in any way for that episode.

Ok ya'll so what did she say about Mariah ? Well, one time on her show (when Mariah was still single or at least wasn't public about her relationship with Nick) they showed a clip of Mariah at her apartment being taped for Oprah showing off her lingerie closet. Basically she kind of made a crack about Mariah needing all that lingerie when she didn't have anyone to where it for (or so she thought) and pretty much just mocked the way Mariah was being by obnoxiously mimicking her mannerisms and stuff.

Is anybody else worried that Chelsea Handler is going to make fun of Mariah at the VMAs?? Why should she? Mariah's not even going to be there in the audience. I think she should stick to mocking the celebrities attending. I hate this b*tch. Always dissing Mimi >:(

Plus, MTV has a history of kind of going at Mariah themselves when they know Eminem will be in attendance. Does anybody remember the 2004 Movie Awards? You know the one that that the montage of wost movies with Glitter included. Even though that movie was like three years old, and Glitter jokes were even older.
