Ah, now I see where you're coming from, Zazie. Fair enough, and thank you for elaborating. For my part, I had never associated that kind of lyric with child-speak; I saw it as doing the same thing with an adjective that took place to give rise to "the blues" as a noun. And since the song draws some influence from that genre of music (through a very mainstream filter, admittedly) that particular tactic doesn't bother me, and even strikes me as sort of fitting. But those lyrics are the only ones in the song that I'm motivated to defend. If there were Pam Tillis songs or Rosanne Cash songs on the radio along with Undo It, I'm pretty sure I'd be seeing this as "to each his own," but my preferred half of this equation is missing. I do agree with this, and also your point about country radio's treatment of its more mature women. As I see it, the broader problem these days is the increased reliance on hooks and immediacy without sufficient attention to lyrical development, and that seems true for male and female artists alike. I chalk it up to radio's struggles to maintain its audience in the face of competition from satellite radio, iPods and the internet. The argument that higher quality playlists with more variety would help radio stations to retain their audience probably doesn't fly with programmers because they know individuals can program for themselves now. So playlists are increasingly about catering to the passive listeners who don't care as much about lyrics and are simply looking for ear candy. As a consequence, there is less to reward to active music listener. Artists are complicit inasmuch as they buy into the false opposition between hooky/immediate songs and smart ones. If they want fun summer songs, they should go for songs that are both (hooky and smart). This shouldn't be read as an indictment of Carrie alone. But she has shown that she is capable of delivering smarter fun songs than this, so I hope she goes for better next time. ETA: I don't know that it's the format's core artists whose singles are likely to challenge "Undo It"'s effort to top the country chart. I think the song is more likely to be challenged by a breakthrough single that connects widely, something like Jerrod Niemann's "Lover, Lover."

Hooky and smart, that's what I'm hoping for. There's no reason you can't have both -- good post, dudley.
I've got Lover, Lover penciled in to follow Carrie to the top, but Keith Urban is acting like he will interfere with my chart plans. By the way, I'm not saying I love 100% of KU's ear-candy songs but he's mastered the combination of intelligent with hooky on a consistent basiis. If Carrie could match his quality of lyrics and performance, I'd enjoy her light songs a lot more. Then we could move on to the "message songs," which I think also need a lot of work....

Now you're just getting greedy. It looks like she's headed to #14 next week, and likely #11 the following week. Assuming that Joe keeps up his rate of drop, that would put her in the top 10 on the 6/19/10 chart week. Based on what I said on page 5 of this thread: If you go with the a tad more logical 3 mill/week gain rate for her, that would require 5 more weeks for her to get there to that 20 mill plateau. And chances are, there will be at least one more hiccup week or two, so that Carrie doesn't get there until week 6 or 7 (the 6/26/10 or 7/3/10 chart weeks). I ended up being pretty much right, minus the "hiccup week", which never came to pass. She must have been holding her breath the entire time. Or when that guy stole her happy, it also "scared the hiccups"out of her....

So they could probably get both songs to #1 if the situation occured where they were both at the top.

I thought she did a great job of this on AI last night. I thought it would be a rather tough song to perform live but she did great as always. I was never really a fan of this song but Carrie's performance and energy kind of makes me like it. If nothing else, it has been stuck in my head all day.

ruben, since you appear to be new to the Country forum, please be aware that we do not allow regular iTunes updates in the singles threads, especially when they are relatively minute updates like a move from #21 to #18. I would suggest that you wait for the song to reach its peak this week on iTunes and simply post to note that peak.
Also, please don't post consecutively in this thread. If you have something new to say and no one has posted since the last time you did, please wait until someone else has posted before posting again or edit your most recent post with your additional comments.
If you have questions or concerns, please PM me. Thank you.

Plus, Lee's "Hallelujah", and Cyrstals "Up To The Mountain" are about to fall below it! Top 10 here we come!

# f**kING 11 ON ITUNES :o THANKYOU IDOL! Plus, Lee's "Hallelujah", and Cyrstals "Up To The Mountain" are about to fall below it! Top 10 here we come! Hopefully Pop sees this ;) Apparently dudley's post went unnoticed by someone... While I do hope this is a big crossover (cuz I love Carrie), I guess I Tunes updates aren't allowed on the thread...I don't know the technical reason why but I don't care, it doesn't bother me. Crossover would be good tho, but in the end I only really care about country. This will be a #1 hit, possibly for a few weeks... Those 3 songs you mentioned were certainly huge hits, but I think we'd all agree they were more traditional country sounding songs than Carrie. I think "Undo It" could easily go down as one of Carrie's biggest hits (if not the biggest so far), but I'm not sure if I'd compare it to George, Tim, and Toby. Anyway, I don't think Brad's "Water" has a chance at more than 2 weeks at #1 (if he even gets 1 week; I think he'll get just one), Miranda could get a few but not a month. So, maybe this song will be a multi-week #1 hit...I don't know if I'd call it the dominant summer single, but it could be one of them...it could be the biggest too, we'll see when the time comes. But I would be very, very surprised if this missed #1. Look at how fast it's flying?! Plus, she's Carrie after all!!! ;)

They're allowed in the pop forums!?!? Sweetie, this isn't the pop forum. I doubt that this'll be Carrie's biggest hit. I think it'll only get two weeks at most at #1.

I can certainly see that scenario. It will be a big hit, but maybe not the biggest. The burn rate should be pretty quick, though I don't think overly quick. Carrie is just so popular, that fans and radio alike eat up her songs, and radio pushes them to the top so fast.

I think 2 weeks at number 1 is a reasonable prediction given how fast songs seem to be replaced at the top spot these days. But you never know.
I hope both Undo It and Keith's I'm In hit number 1 as both are great songs.

I think the success of "Undo It" will be somewhere between "Last Name" and "Before He Cheats"...
I'll go with 3 weeks at #1 -- but it really depends who she's up against.

I'm going to say that Keith and Carrie will battle it out and then Jerrod takes over. This should move into the top 10 this week on Billboard.

If this song ends up being Carrie's biggest hit, poor Carrie. SO TRUE!!! I have held out posting on this song since I think it's her worst single to date and couldn't find anything positive to say about it. I still feel this way but I am glad it's climbing quickly so it will be gone soon and Someday When I Start Loving You can become the hit it should be. As with almost all the "A" list stars, I am ready for new material from Carrie, as well as Keith and Brad.

It's just too much fun to be her worst, probably not her strongest but I wouldn't call it her worst. There's no worst in Carrie's world, only BEST! I'm hoping for a 3 weeks at the top minimum!!!!

The worst single title goes to "Last Name" for me.

The worst single title goes to "Last Name" for me. For me, too (though it grew on me). But Undo It is burning out for me a lot faster for some reason; it's the first song from Carrie that I ever started changing the station when it came on. (Though that's not necessarily the fault of just the song. The whole PO album has been a fast burn for me.)

^I would say either "All-American Girl" or "Last Name" are my least favorites of hers, though neither is particularly bad. The latter kind of fell flat on the vocals, IMO -- there just wasn't the "fun" feel that song needed, and it came off canned and forced. Whereas with this one, she's a lot more emphatic and lucid in her delivery.

I don't think I can describe any of Carrie's number ones as the "worse", but rather which one I like the least. Being that all of her songs have reached the top, I can't see how any of them can be described in that manner. It's like saying, which is the worse song, "let it be", "yesterday", or "imagine". I know which one I like the least, but I can't describe any as the "worst". jmo

This song has grown on me quite a bit. I used to think it was kind of weak, but I enjoy it now. I'm glad to see its been holding up well on itunes though. A lot of the songs performed on the Idol finale have already fallen quite a bit. I was just checking itunes and noticed this was at #15, and was like.. " :o Why is it so high?" then I remembered she had performed it on Idol. I don't have TV, so I haven't been able to watch, so I never saw her performance. (I'll have to go check it out on Youtube). Either way, its a good sign that this may have a chance at crossing over. I was skeptical at first, but now I think it has a shot. Although, I don't have high hopes for them sending it to another format since Cowboy Casanova screamed "release me to Pop" and it never got released. (I'm still not over that. ) Its my favorite Carrie uptempo, and a big contender with "Wasted" as my favorite Carrie single/song. Also, since I don't follow the Country charts, have any of her songs missed #1 on Country? I know on Billboard she's had 2 (or 3?) that have, but I'm not so sure on Mediabase. If answering that is off topic, then please PM me. I am interested in knowing the stats.
