What is the highest sales in ONE WEEK for an album which WASN'T #1 that week? I think it was Ayumi Hamasaki's "A BEST", which debuted at #2 with sales of 2,874,870
but i am wondering if there is anything higher.

'Ray of Light' did 371,000 the first week, at #2 behind the 'Titanic Soundtrack.'
And what about Alicia's last album, she debuted at #2 behind Empress SuBo didn't she?

You must be talking about the United World Chart right? No - the Oricon Albums chart in Japan. From Wikipedia: A Best was released simultaneously with Utada Hikaru's Distance, which topped the charts on the initial week of release with 3,002,720 copies in its first week; A Best debuted at number two with 2,874,870 copies[1]. Additionally, it topped the charts the second week of its release and is the sixth highest-selling album of all time in Japan[2]. To date A BEST is Ayumi Hamasaki's highest selling album in Japan. It sold 4,301,353 copies total.

lol... that's random. You need to/should probably set some perametres if you're going to make a topic like this. lol
Weren't there periods when the Top 2 albums debuted with 500+k? or a week where the #1 album debuted with 1.4million and #2 was 900k?

I believe BSB had some crazy sales week (800-950K), but finished behind the Beatles "1" which sold over a million. That was my first though, but obviously Japan beats us

50 Cent debuted with 691k (Kanye was #1 over 950k I think). And yeah the BSB/Beatles 1-2 punch in 00 was pretty impressive. And I think Britney & Eminem release their albums back-to-back in May 00 so I assume there was a very strong #2 there as well.
