Video looks great, but gotta be honest as soon as I saw it I immediately thought of the Express Yourself video. Not that I/anyone should care.

Judging from the video screenshot posted on Z100.com...looks like off Madonna's "Express Yourself" & "Vogue" lol...somewhere Christina must be smiling :) I dont see the Express Yourself comparison. But even if she did do that. Im damn sure it will make christina's NMT video seem like a special ED class. I don't know how you don't see the comparison, it is really obvious lol. But you're right - I doubt it will turn hurt Gaga like it did Christina. I think what turned people off about Aguilera was her attitude when asked about the comparisons. I'm sure Gaga would be more classy and say something along the lines of how she is paying homage to Madonna while adding her own touch to it.

why is lady gaga singing about a guy named alejandro, she isn't mexican!!!!!!!!!!!! What a question... Really deep. I mean... really? Do you use the term "mexican" to group all Spanish speakers in the planet by any chance?? I hope you know there is a county called Mexico where Mexicans are from and then you have all Central and South America plus Spain and Alejandro can be a name anywhere there too....

This clip of alejandro is so freaking hott!! after i saw that preview the first thing that came in my mind was MADONNA gaGag is definitely our generation's Madonna. She walks on all the other wannabees trying to fill the queen's shoes. She's your generation's top Madonna impersonator, nothing more. The video looks like a hybrid of "Vogue" and "Rhythm Nation." I'm tired of people saying "new Madonna!". Sorry, but there's only 1 Madonna, and she gained her acclaim and status because she pushed the envelope and touched subjects that were taboo. So, honestly, if she opened the door for taboo subjects to be discussed, how can anyone do that? lol Basically no one can do what Madonna did. So, yes, you're right, all we can have is Madonna impersonators. Which isn't a bad thing though. As long as they're doing a good job. That said, I wouldn't consider GaGa a Madonna "impersonator". She's not original by any means, but she's like a combo of all these different artists from the past & present. She may not be unique, but she's certainly fierce as hell.

Mmmmmm.... I would slightly digress with Spavin here, since I perceive a negative connotation toward Gaga's significance, achievements and potential in music (comparing to Madonna). But let me start by reminding everyone that if I can be a st@n of any artist, then I am a Madonna st@n I grew up to her music and although I initially loved Cyndi Lauper more than her, I switched to Madge right after Into the Groove and never left :) Having said that, let's also remember who Madonna was at current Gaga's age/stage. Madonna was just the "white girl that sings disco music" when she started her career with "Everybody" and "Holiday"... then she was deemed a "watered-down version of Deborah Harry" with some bits of Olivia Newton-John (her harmless rebellish image was closer to that of Grease than that of Joan Jett) and Marilyn Monroe ("Burning Up" and "Material Girl"). She also added some initial controversy with her Like A Virgin performance, but nothing too shocking yet. Then she added the "oh, she can also sing a ballad decently" with Crazy For You, but that was 2 years after her debut. It was just with "Live To Tell" when she built a more serious image and reputation and was taken seriously in the Pop world... and was only with Like A Prayer when Madonna turned into MADONNA, a brand, an image, an icon. Lady Gaga? She is f'ing YOUNG and with less than 2 years in her career she has achieved monumental success. Yeah, she may be considered a "new Madonna" now thanks to her influence in Pop music and how she has revitalized Pop dimensions (fashion, videos, dance genre). She may not be a "creator", but again for being in her first (and half) era and as young as she is, she has achieved (IMO) at least as much as Madonna achieved in her first couple of years of music career. And, in at least one dimension: music artistry, Gaga is showing more than Madonna at similar stages of her career (her acoustic performances, her writing abilities, her dance routines are above Madge's at similar stage). Also, I think that Gaga seems to be closer to the young people than Madonna was. She seems to embrace and welcome all freaks as her and to push for their self-acceptance, which makes her look like the freak girl next door ;) Gaga is talking clearly about her sexual option, defending gay rights openly, talking about her (former) drug issues. Of course this is also a new generation where these issues can be discussed more openly than in the 80s, but still, she is doing it without fear. She already had a shocking live performance (Paparazzi vs. Like A Virgin) and her videos are ambitious (as Madge's were at her primetime). Yeah, she is walking on a road that Madge also paved, it's true, but I would not like to minimize the achievements that Gaga has made this early in her career. I will just wait and see what her material will be in the following years... maybe a "Like A Prayer"-like era will come too.... or maybe just a "True Colors"-like and it was all a Lauper-esque aborted hope.... She may not be the next Madonna, but her potential is obvious to be a "new Madonna" or who knows maybe the "first Gaga".

Being huge in the very beginning is a death knell many times. Madonna's second album selling twice as much as her first was the first sign she was going to be around a while.
LOL at you comparing the shock factor and impact of Gaga's "Paparazzi" VMA performance to Madonna's "Like A Virgin" at the first VMAs. That ish needs to be checked at the door.
And Gaga has not shown more "music artistry" than Madonna through the same point. M/LAV and TF/TFM both baited pop radio with their singles as much as possible and M's debut served as a template for all female pop albums after it.

I think what I got from Daddy GaGa's post was that back in the beginning stages of Madonna's career, she was being compared to women before her as well. We can easily look back now and see what the end result was. Madonna became MADONNA but at that point, two years into Madonna's career in 1985, Madonna was still new with comparisons to women previous to her, as mentioned; Deborah Harry, Olivia Newton-John, etc. We eventually saw that Madonna became her own women. So it's silly to say that it can't happen to GaGa that way as well.

They didn't do very well. They actually aged well though. RN is the template for what a female pop album should be. 7 top 5 hits plus several other tracks generating significant airplay that could've been top 5 hits themselves. That being said this song is Vogue Inspired.
