It's probably going to plummet... This. Only in the AfterLD/Pulse/etc bubble does this incredible word of mouth exist. 37.5m US / 43m OS

Box office Prophet predicts the film will total around 32M US. Hits predicts the sountrack will sale between 25 - 50 M based on how the film performs this week. 50 M is great for a soundtrack but I'm dissapointed in the box office. No surprise -burlesque has a limited audience.

OST up to #19 on Amazon besstsellers list...Above Kanye. Box office Prophet predicts the film will total around 32M US. Hits predicts the sountrack will sale between 25 - 50 M based on how the film performs this week. 50 M is great for a soundtrack but I'm dissapointed in the box office. No surprise -burlesque has a limited audience. The movie will open exactly as much as the studio predicted, trust me.

Wow, how did the soundtrack shoot up to #1 on iTunes so late in the week ???
Saw the movie twice, it was cute and enjoyable. The music was great. Of course the plot was extremely predictable and oddly similar to that of Coyote Ugly. Christina's singing was great but she could use some acting lessons lol. Obv Cher was fab.
Oh and I bought the soundtrack too :)

Theatres take roughly 50% of the box office gross, so were it to gross $120 million, that would actually mean a revenue of approximately $60 million for the studio, matching its budget. So, perhaps that's what the poster meant. That doesn't take into consideration international box office or ancillary revenue such as DVD or TV rights, though. But, this also had a significant promotional and marketing budget. actually, that depends. Studios tend to get more on the first week, and it falls on the subsequent weeks...so i would not say 120 million to make a profit, but something between 90-100 is pretty reasonable....but that could be higher, cuz i dont know if that 55 million budget (is that even accurate ?) includes money spent on ads (that seems to be quite a lot) I am using an average. There is a real push for films to open big because the studio's cut is actually higher on the first two or three weeks it is in theatres. Thereafter, their cut declines.

Word-of-mouth is what is going to give this films legs. It is a fan favorite film with great musical numbers. The last number is a show stopper! I didn't hear any negative comments because the music shaded everything else. I saw the film on Friday. People were mocking it openly at my theatre. I can't see it having good legs - people aren't going to pay $12 to sit through dreck just to see Christina do a few musical numbers. Regardless, this is going to have a huge drop next weekend as the vast majority of films do in every post-Thanksgiving frame. The film is every shade of medicore except for the music and staging of the numbers. The music belongs in a better film. Cher's face was frightening. I was completely distracted and couldn't get past it whenever she was on screen. Christina was at her best when she was singing. She didn't embarrass herself with dialogue but was nothing to write home about, either.

So just because YOUR theater was "mocking" her means it won't have legs? My theater was applauding and enjoying her musical numbers, as well as the dialog. So that means the movie will have legs? ???

No. Please reread. I was merely making an observation, not inferring cause and effect. Also, I said people were mocking the film, not Christina. People seemed to enjoy the musical numbers, but whenever there was a scene the audience was supposed to take seriously, there was mockery.

Your point has no basis. :) Basis in what? It's an opinion. I clearly stated as much when I said, "I can't see it having good legs." If you want basis, I could write a few paragraphs about how films always drop hard in the post-Thanksgiving frame and how this is going to have trouble maintaining its theatre count in a crowded December marketplace (when it is already ultra-wide and could only muster a $3,900 per screen average this weekend), but you'd probably misread all of that, too.

What is Ost ? I know it's something dealing with the soundtrack. Rca send the damn single out already. She's during great things on itunes. I hope this movie does good for her and Cher. Christina has worked her behind off, and she's done a damn good job. Congrats to she and Cher.

It's exactly what Sony predicted.
It's the 4th biggest musical opening only Hairspray,Mamma Mia and High schoool musical did more.
Dream Girls,Chicago,Moulin Rouge all opened with less.

Dream Girls,Chicago,Moulin Rouge all opened with less. Lol, what a convenient comparison. All of these films opened on less than 50 screens and expanded gradually.

Dreamgirls, Chicago, and Moulin Rouge all opened to smaller markets and, through word of mouth and critical praise, grew to what they became.
The only word of mouth I'm hearing is that it was hilariously bad, poorly acted, and with excellent musical numbers that aren't worth a movie ticket. In my opinion, there will not be any Oscar or Golden Globe hype for this movie, which is what allowed the others to have legs. $11.4M on one weekend for that many screens while Tangled and Harry Potter were around the $50M mark simply means the audience isn't interested. It should plummet the next two weekends and then disappear.

I saw Burlesque Friday night and I thought it was all right. Loved some parts (like the Famous Amos Cookies scene), hated some cliche parts, was amazed by some numbers (especially that But I'm A Good Girl number), and was giddy at seeing Kristen Bell.
However...a few days after, and the songs in the movie are starting to take over my head! Perhaps I will need to see this a second time.
And yep, tried finding a copy of the soundtrack at Borders today (since it was last day to use that 50% off anything coupon) and it was sold out. =(

Awards Daily predict "Bound To You AND You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me" for Best Original Song!OMG OMGwww.awardsdaily.com/2010/10/best-song-and-score-is-the-academy-not-cool-enough-for-reznor-and-ross/"Burlesque / “Bound to You” – Performed by Christina Aguilera Referred to as the “voice of her generation,” Christina Aguilera makes her theatrical film and musical debut as the lead character in Burlesque. Her electrifying vocals on the films track “Bound To You” will remind you why this starlet is a 5-time Grammy winner! " THIS WAS IN THE COMMENT SECTION That’s why films like “Burlesque” and possibly “Tangled” have a much stronger shot at nominations in this category. As musical films, especially “Burlesque”, songs are integral parts of the films composition. I would place my strongest bets on “Burlesque”, “Tangled”, and “Country Strong” picking up nominations in this category. And if the pre-screenings are anything to go by, Aguilera’s “Bound to You” and Cher’s “You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me” were the definite showstoppers of the movie so those predictions seem pretty right on.
