Variety: "Burlesque scores A- with audiences"
Screen Gems' "Burlesque," with Sony distribbing, closely followed "Megamind" in standing, tallying an estimated five-day total of $17.6 million for a cume north of $130 million.
"Burlesque" received an overall A- aud appraisal but scored better with the under-35 crowd, which gave the pic an A rating. Male auds, who made up 31% of the film's opening demo, even gave "Burlesque" an above-average rating. Sony, however, expected the film to appeal heavily to gay men.
The film's marketing materials hyped stars Cher and Christina Aguilera, as well as the music, in trailers and online videos.
Rory Bruer, Sony prexy of worldwide distribution, credited stars Cher and Aguilera as the pic's primary draws. "Cher has a knockout song where even she said she hit a few notes she's never hit before."
Like "Burlesque," Fox's "Love and Other Drugs" tapped into a primarily female base, with 63%, and drew 60% of its aud over 25. The R-rated film, toplining Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, repped a significant marketing challenge for Fox as it isn't a typical romantic comedy. Pic got a B- CinemaScore rating, which could reflect audience confusion.

The first time I listened to "Castle Walls," I was underwhelmed - but the more I am listening to it, the more I am appreciating it.

This song is radio ready.
5 and a half minutes is too long for the radio. They'll cut the song for the radio.
T.I's second rap verse is too long, they should cut that for the radio version.
Overall amazing song.

Pristine confirmed it on After LD about a month or so ago. She's going straight into working on the new album from January, confirmed by Christina herself.

Christina is back! The OST/Burlesque looks as if it is going to do quite well (doing really well atm). As well as "Castle Walls", which I hope is a single. Now all we need is a new album for late next year with some amazing material ^^

'Castle Walls' is really good. T.I.'s second verse is too long, though.

I already mentioned this in the Polling Booth thread but she sounds fantastic on the cut. Really, I love it when she tones down the vocal antics and actually sings. Hopefully we'll see more of this on her next album. how insightful. Where would we be without contributions such as this?

And BTW, Burlesque seems to be doing exactly the same as J-Lo's 'The Back-Up Plan'. That was a hit because it was made for $35 million. Burlesque was made for well..you get where I'm going. boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=backupplan.htmWhat is theatre by theatre count ? And what does Ost stand for, i know something soundtrack correct ? It would be nice if she could sell about 75k her first week out with the soundtrack. OST stans for original soundtrack. Theatre by theatre count is the total gross of a movie divided by the number of theatest. For instance, a movie makes 10 million but was only released in 600 theatres, per theatre it made 16,6K. A movie that make 15 million but is released in 2000 theatres makes 7.5K a theatre and therefore is less succesful.

And on Monday it plummeted nearly 70% to just 875K. If you're going to attempt to do box office analysis, you might want to obtain a basic understanding of how movies trend throughout the week. Just a suggestion.

Exactly. It was the third watched movie yesterday and AGAIN experienced the smallest decrease out of everyone. ??? Why are so many people trying to discredit this movie? ??? Sony predicted the the gross amount exactly and it's not been released world wide yet. Damn...pressed bitches.

Just a suggestion. I know exactly how movies do throughout the week. Fact is it fell 70% and in terms of percentages and box office gross is following The Back Up Plan which did $35 million. Exactly. Sony predicted the the gross amount exactly and it's not been released world wide yet. Damn...pressed bitches. Out of the top 3. It fell more than Love & Other Drugs, Faster, Due Date and The Next Three Days.
