Mariah Switch From 'Today' to 'GMA' Enrages NBC Hell hath no fury like a network scorned. Music-industry insiders and network sources say NBC is furious with Mariah Carey, her manager Benny Medina and her reps at Def Jam, because they promised Carey would perform on "Today" to promote her new album, "E=MC2" - but instead she's going on archrival ABC's "Good Morning America."
One music insider told Page Six, "Every morning show wanted Mariah on for her new album, so Benny started negotiating. He demanded that 'Today' promote her fragrance and also give her a guest-star role on 'My Name is Earl.' They agreed."
But her "My Name Is Earl" part, which was to coincide with the album release, was put off when it was decided the album needed work. "It was supposed to come out in November, then it was pushed back until February, and now the release date is April 15," said our source.
"The entire time, Benny told 'Today' it would get Mariah for its concert series on Rockefeller Plaza. But then he stopped returning calls. Turns out, he had done a side deal behind everyone's back with 'Good Morning America' - after NBC had agreed to all of his demands.
Medina, the inspiration for "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," told us: "We want to do something really spectacular for Mariah's album debut. I don't want 'Today' to feel disrespected by me trying to do right by my client. But when we went on 'GMA' [two years ago], they closed down Times Square. It got great ratings and was a big success."
And Medina denies he ever promised "Today" that Carey would give a concert on Rockefeller Plaza. "If they can show me an e-mail from anyone committing to the concert, I will personally pay for the entire production myself," he said.
Laura Swanson, Carey's rep at Def Jam, said the outdoor plaza wasn't big enough for a concert, "thus, they're unable to meet our needs for a spectacular launch event." No one would divulge where Carey's mid-April concert for "GMA" would be held.
Megan Kopf, a rep for "Today," said, "Mariah has been a guest on 'Today' several times since the start of her career. We would certainly like to have her back on 'Today.' " Source: NY Post | Rima

Just a note that the arguing stops here. Otherwise, I'm holding the key and I think Mega or Gigga or someone else has a big lock somewhere. Even if we have to unlock the cell holding potter66, we'll do it! Emaxis, just a question, why when someone try to argue and defend Mariah or vice versa you always insinuate caveats like this? Whenever I go to Madonna threads (I observed) you don't do this kind of warning statement? No offense meant, thanks. *forget it*

I really can't surmise nor analyze why people here are trying to put negativity and being pessimistic about this song. Hell, don't know what is the universal accepted "quality" and "creativity" over an artist's ability and their products (outcome/result). Anyhow, I know that TMB is a successful song and this will be her 18th no. 1 VERY SOON. Lambs, keep on supporting Mariah, don't mind what others say. Just let other artists do their thing and we'll concentrate on our idol, our inspiration, our one and only Mariah Carey. You answered your own question with the rest of your reply. When a ton of people suddenly come around and start praising a song that a lot of others consider mediorce, those people feel the desire to bring the others down a peg or two. Meanwhile, the fans get defensive and start calling out the non-fans. So on one hand, you have the people that are overly "pessimistic" and "negative". Maybe alittle too much but on the other hand, you have the people that are overly "optimistic" and "positive". Both sides are greatly fooling themselves and as a result, you have this huge argument between the two sides that involves a ton of people and that's why it seems like so many people care. It happened when 'No One' broke out late last year. Suddenly, people started praising it as if it was the best song in years and other people replied saying "it's good but not THAT great" and "it's not going to be huge" and finding things wrong with the song. That's what happens. My suggestion is, if you want these so-called "haters" to stop, the so-called "lovers" should tone it down a bit.I personally think both sides are equally delusional and equally annoying as someone who considers himself to be both in the middle and uncaring about the situation. come on haters won't stop even if the supporters tone down

we shouldn't be comparing this to ITL
ITL was coming off a flop album TMB is coming off a 6X platinum album!
but i think it has a shot... its all timing and i think Team Mariah should be having a headache now..it should be str8 forward if not for Usher :(

Usher done her a favour by releasing his digital single first... i wanted it to go 120 milliion but i think i will be happy if it can actually break 100 million by next week But what if his digital sales increase? it won't be selling in the 195k level every week...

i think the strategy is to allow Madonna to be relevant on US radio again...
and if she really pulls it off.. it will just smash the general ideal that artiste over 40 yrs old will never be relevant on US radio
i hope she will succeed

Strategies are planned. Nuff said. yes that i agree its comes wih business objectives Mariah was coming off Charmbraclet..not so well received by the public..so do you think the record company will be that unrealistic to say "ok look i want this single to go to #1"

Are some of you serious. Your telling me that it was strategy for the first single to not be that well recieved so that the second single would help the album. I can see it now in a conference room: "Ok folks, we have to make sure the first single only goes top 20, so that the second single will then be more popular. Got it everyone, don't work to hard on the first single...just let it ride and then bang...and they won't know what hit them." LOL! Seriously, some of you need help. I'm not going to argue. no not all business strategies will end up successful because there are factors which are out of the record company's control you can't say that because ITL did not do well on radio thus its was not part of a strategy whats important is i feel that they did achieve their business objective when they released ITL - generate interest in the public so even though ITL is not as successful as expected... the release can be considered a moderately successful strategy
