The Hall of Fame committee met today (9/13) to discuss who will make it onto this year's ballot.
Who will make the list of nominees this year? Future Rock Legends predicts the following will appear on the ballot:
Beastie Boys Red Hot Chili Peppers Leon Russell T. Rex LL Cool J Sting Joe Tex Donna Summer The Chantels Devo Yes Johnny Burnette and the Rock N Roll Trio

my guess is that donna will be screwed over yet again and i really hope she can squeak in this year (hopefully abba's induction this year helped sway some voters for her consideration next year)
and please, no use of the word 'acclaim', i beg of you...

I so hope Donna can finally make it in. It would have been nice if she gotten in they year of her Crayons album(08), they same year Madonna made it.
I also agree that if Abba made the cut so should she.

:) There are times an act doesn't have to have a load of that word you don't want to hear, so I will restrain. hehe
I hope Donna Summer makes it this year- she's been eligible since 1999 and very deserving.

Something tells me they'll keep stringing her along like the Grammys do Diana Ross. I don't think she's ever won one in her solo career.

chato, Cher is *not* in the Hall of Fame, as a solo act or with Sonny. Sonny & Cher had been considered/discussed, but never made it onto the nominees list.

I'm sure Summer will get in at some point. Personally, I feel that she should be a double entry with Moroder, but that's just me...

The Cure have been eligible for like 5 years now and it literally blows my mind that they're failing to be recognized.

Commercial success doesn't necessarily translate to a nomination

^Not at all- in fact, that's low on the criteria list. Of course, a lot of commercially successful acts are in the HOF, but they have more than that in their favor.
Janet Jackson has dome some good stuff, but the last decade has hurt her, IMO. If she doesn't make the cut this year, it will move her waiting time to four years (she was first eligible in 2007, for the 2008 ceremony). Next year will be Control's 25th anniversary, but we've seen acts inducted instantly upon eligibility, even if their first big impact occurred less than 25 years prior.

No Ringo Starr or The Doobie Brothers? The Doobie Brothers not being in the Hall of Fame is a total sin. Why aren't they in there already? I wish Ringo would get in as a solo artist.

Is George Harrison in yet? I believe Paul and John are both in as solo artists already. You might have a long wait for Ringo to get in.

The Rock Hall will announce the nominees on Tuesday (9/28).
One of the most puzzling inductions and, in turn, omissions, is Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Smokey is induced as a solo act- but, the Rock Hall's Smokey bio/entry mostly discusses his work with The Miracles- only the last paragraph discusses his solo work. So, barring a surprise, I wouldn't expect for SR & The Miracles to be inducted.

I wonder what the nominations will look like 10-15 years from now.

Didn't Whitney Houston release her debut album in 1985 and since she did, isn't she eligible for the Rock Hall of Fame as well? Also not seen among the nominees that they predicted is KISS. What's it going to take to get them in the Hall? They always shove KISS aside along with The Doobie Brothers for some reason or another.

^Whitney became eligible last year, as her first single was released in 1984 ("Hold Me," with Teddy Pendegrass).
Some could see Kiss as gimmicky. Noted critic Dave Marsh campaigned long and hard for years to keep the band off the ballot- it made the nominations ballot last year for the first time, but didn't garner enough support for induction.

I hope to God you're joking. About what? Britney being eligible? She will be. In 2023 or 2024 she will have 25 years in the business, making her eligible for the Rock and Roll HoF. That doesn't automatically mean she will get nominated, or voted in. In fact, unless the make up of the nominating commitee changes their standards drastically in the next 10 to 15 years, I can't see them nominating her the year she is eligible, much less voting her in on a first ballot. LOL At the thought.

I hope to God you're joking. About what? About the notion that she'd even be considered.
