Beautiful song, I have no idea why it wasn't on PO.

I am more curious than anything as to where this came from..it sounds like it was recorded right there in the writing session. So however the hell this Nowelle character from the Philippines had it, is beyond me.

I'm glad it wasn't recorded for real. I like it just the way it is but I still don't think its better than SWISLY. :)
Bright probably would've ruined it.

Oh, I see now. Apparently the guy has a few more, too. Interesting. I need to get on ebay more.

LMAO. OK. Lets get back to the regularly scheduled programming. Soul Surfer's theatrical release date is now listed as April 8, 2011 on the film's official site. This is a week earlier than initially reported.

Where can I listen to it? I've been dying to hear Carrie's version since we first heard about this song.

^Google Carrie Underwood Oklahoma Wind and it's on the second link on the page. The demo is okay, maybe it would have been more what people hype it up to be with a few more takes in the studio. I'm not too torn up about it not being on the album, other than to give her more credibility from the songwriting perspective.

Got it. Thanks.
I'm actually kind of disappointed with this version. I know it's just demo, but I particularly didn't like her phrasing here -- I like Jon Randall's better and I got used to it after listening to his version several times. Also, I think she oversang a little, mainly on the chorus. Maybe it's just her approach on the lyrics, but I don't like the "desperation" tone Carrie choose to use to express the emotions conveyed in the song. I much prefer a tone down approach, expressing pure sadness instead of desperation, and that's why I like Randall's version better.
Anyway, I must say, what a beautiful song! That right there is the kind of music I think Carrie should be doing.

So there's no reason to automatically think he would ruin Oklahoma Wind. ^ Got it. Thanks. I'm actually kind of disappointed with this version. That right there is the kind of music I think Carrie should be doing. I agree with this. The delivery on the other version was spot on. But I have no doubt that Carrie's studio version would sound very different from this rough acoustic demo track. There's so much potential based on just this demo alone IMO.

I do like Randall's phrasing better and I'll almost go as far to say Carrie's phrasing takes away a bit from the lyrics and the imagery that is created. But undoubtedly Carrie's vocals sound gorgeous on this song. Honestly I want this as single #1 from the album with the album called "Oklahoma Wind".

I think it's unfortunate a demo had to be auctioned off and leak that way but otherwise, she pretty much can sing the phone book and it sounds good.

I was about to get it just to prevent it from leaking. I hope it's leak doesn't hold Carrie back from releasing it.

Why was it auctioned off in the first place? Carrie and her team had to know it had a good chance of leaking due to being auctioned off.

Why was it auctioned off in the first place? Carrie and her team had to know it had a good chance of leaking due to being auctioned off. I would imagine it wasn't Carrie or her team who was doing the auctioning. It was originally Wrensong Publishing that posted Jon Randall's demo, so I would guess that it is someone from Wrensong Publishing who is responsible for the leak of the working tape that has Carrie's voice (this is definitely a working tape, not even a full-fledged demo). I guess Carrie's team could have intervened to make sure someone else didn't make money off a song that she co-wrote, but perhaps they weren't aware of the auction? In any event, I'll take a minority stance. Apart from her reading of "Every time I think he's here to stay" (which I agree with _adriano is oversung at the end), I really like the way Carrie colors the lyrics. To me, the difference between Randall's phrasing and Carrie's is that Randall's is driven more by the melody while Carrie's is driven more by the lyrics and therefore comes across with a more conversational feel. It sounds to me like this is the kind of phrasing that comes naturally to Carrie -- it is somewhat stylized and pure country, and I think it fits the song perfectly. I also really prefer "Oklahoma Wind" with the slight percussive feel of acoustic guitar; the piano sounds stodgy by comparison. I wouldn't like any more percussion added on, however (that is the only problem I have with Mark Bright's production of "Someday When I Stop Loving You").

WOW! Honestly, I hated the demo of Oklahoma Wind, but I was awaiting Carrie's version. And that rough cut is AMAZING! I really hope they keep it simple and beautiful with the instruments and such. I'm kinda mad I spoiled it for myself, so if this song is on the next album, I will already know what they lyrics and melody are and how Carrie sounds on it...

I suppose it's possible that Carrie's team wasn't aware of the auction. They should hire someone from CarrieFans to be on the lookout for these things ;), someone there was apparently bidding on the auction but lost out. I do agree that the one line near the end ("every time I think he's here to stay") is a bit oversung, but the rest of the song is perfect. I can't help but think that with a studio recording, it wouldn't sound oversung, though, since the distance between Carrie and the mic could be modified and the recording equipment itself would be better quality. However, I do prefer her use of falsetto on that line in other areas of the song. For me, Carrie's version of the song sounds much more connected to the lyrics and the emotion of the song, so I definitely prefer hers.

Wow! That demo is absolutely amazing. Just imagine what a clear, recorded studio version will sound like. How this didn't make Play On, is beyond me. But I can see why she maybe didn't want to have Oklahoma Wind and SWISLY on the same album. But OW definitely needs to be on her next album. I don't know about the first single, but it definitely needs to be a single at some point. Maybe the 2nd single from the next album...I definitely see this song going down in history as a country classic years from now, if Carrie puts it on her album and releases it. It just has a legendary Loretta Lynn-type vibe, with a modern/contemporary twist. "Oklahoma Wind" is a good album title too.
Carrie needs more songs like this. I hope she writes with Bill Anderson more. I don't mind her writing/producing with the pop people (besides Kara) like Mike Elizondo, Max Martin, etc, but for her ballads she should totally stick with country songwriters.

I do agree after listening a couple of times that she oversings on it, but like others have pointed out, it is a rough cut. I hope that if it does end up on a future album, she tones it down some. But I do love her phrasing on the verses. The lyrics are just beautiful.

I heard an interview yesterday and Carrie did pretty much say this year will be a big break for her. She said she'll write, but she's not guaranteeing an album this year. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Finally a Soul Surfer teaser trailer! hmmm I don't know if they're just pimping out that Carrie is in the movie cause I feel like they showed her a bit. Maybe she has more screen time than I had expected? Looking forward to this.

"Oklahoma Wind" needs to be on the next album. This is one of the songs that would get nominated for SOTY at the ACMs/CMAs.

I wouldn't be surprised though if the scenes shown in the teaser are basically most (if not all) of Carrie's scenes already.

I can pretty much say that I don't think Carries team in any way leaked OW. Fwiw, it's been out there for a while and only a handful of people had it. Sound more like someone finally decided to get some value for it.
