On this very day twenty-eight years ago perfection came out of the womb... I will now spend the remainder of this historical day listening to the sounds of Some Hearts, Carnival Ride, & Play On while simultaneously trolling the Kelly Clarkson Express. Please join the celebration.

Carrie got a birthday shout out on "Entertainment Tonight" the trivia question asked: "Which Country star majored in broadcast journalism?" (paraphrased)
The answer obviously being Carrie Underwood! Happy birthday Carrie!

I was wondering. If since it hasn't been confirmed that there's no 5th single as of yet. I wonder if they're just trying to build a gap after Mama's Song, so they can release another slow long like SWISLY.
Since the Brad/Carrie duet wasn't the next single for him. There's no promotional single for the Soul Surfer film. The ACMs are in a few weeks. I mean, say she performs SWISLY, and her team follows up and confirms it as the 5th single from Play On.
Just a theory I kind of thought of. Same could go with WCIS. The timing def. wouldn't have been right to have it compete with the Jason Aldean/Kelly Clarkson duet. But, by the time the ACMs are here the monsterous hit of DYWS will have slowed down, and probably started falling.

That would be cool if she performed SWISLY at the ACMs and then followed it up by releasing it as a single. But I just can't see them releasing that type of ballad in the spring.

Happy 1-year anniversary of the PO Tour! :) As for the ACMs, that's a complete question mark. She'll obviously be there because she's going to be honored at the Girls' Night Out special the following day, so the big question is -- will she perform? I can't see the reigning 2x ACM EOTY not perform, so I'm hoping it's a special performance. Preferably WCIS. Please. With cherries on top?! Carrie got a b-day shout-out on E! News, too. :)

^I'll bet she will perform the duet with Brad Paisley at the A.C.M.s.

^I'll bet she will perform the duet with Brad Paisley at the A.C.M.s. I doubt it, I'm thinking Brad will probably be performing his current single, "Old Alabama" instead. So if Carrie does perform, hopefully it'll be a great album track from Play On, preferably SWISLY or WCIS.

I just can't see her performing an album track from an era that ended months ago. I just think it would be odd. So, as much as I would love it, I kinda doubt we'll be getting a 'Someday When I Stop Loving You' performance at the ACMs. Maybe a tribute or something? On an entirely different & kinda random note, I've been listening to this track - 'Morning Person' - over at Natalie Hemby's official Myspace page for a while. And, yeah, I'd love for Carrie to record that one. I just think she could do some really nice things with it especially in regards to phrasing. It's just a killer song: What if I was morning person? What if you stayed awake at night? I thought we would be together, that I'd see you all the time Isn't it strange that I always miss you in a place that we both reside? If anything, I hope Carrie works with Natalie Hemby again. She has so much more to offer than 'play onnnn, when you're losing the game'.

Speaking of listening to other writer's songs, does anyone by any chance have "That's What The Night Is For" by Hillary Lindsey? I loved that song and I'd love for Carrie to sing it. I lost the mp3 when I switched computers though. :(

Seems like Carrie likes her pop/rock writers.

We'll see if it makes the album this time. Has Ryan Tedder written country songs before that have actually been released? David Hodges comfirms he will be working with Carrie again this week: twitter.com/hodgesmusic

Honestly, I don't care who she writes with, I just want good songs. She is probably the best female vocalist out there right now, she can sing anything. She just really needs to focus on choosing great songs. Please no more cheesy "Change" or "Play On". Not every ballad has to have a really deep or intricate meaning either. I really do love all of Carrie's albums and songs, but they do burn out on me after a while. I just hope she finds some really great critically acclaimed material for her next album. I was listening to Sara Evans' new albums, and I couldn't help but wish Carrie had recorded some of those songs, or some like it.

I've never been a fan of Carrie's, but of late it's obviously hard to find fault with the strength and consistency of her vocals, her image, and her maintenance of her place in country music. The only thing really holding her back--though she is by no means struggling--is her material. She has a lot of goodwill at country radio so she won't have a problem getting a hit, but her material tends to lean toward bland and cheesy. There's no reason she can't be churning out material as strong as Evans or Lambert.

Proud of Danny rn. And, I kind of agree. I feel like all of the leaked demos with her vocals are so much better than the songs she puts on her album. I'm hoping that the new Sony head will push her into a different direction sonically, yanno? I am, however, interested in her Tedder cowrites. Everyone here hates him, but when he's on he is best in show. Let's see how he writes with her.

I just have a gut feeling that this next album is going to be something special. Writing with Tom Douglas and recording a McKenna track is definitely a step in the right direction and I'm sure there is more we're unaware of at this point. I'd like to think that working with DioGuardi & Tedder is just a 'cover the bases' kind of thing. I doubt Carrie or the label would be interested in making a Play On II. Or at least that's what I'm gonna tell myself for now.
And, yeah, since it has been brought up, I'd take any of Carrie's albums over Evans' latest. I really like Sara but that album just left me cold.

She's gorgeous, has the voice, and seems to be in the good graces of country radio, but her material just falls flat time and time again. Aside from "All American Girl", "Just A Dream" and "Before He Cheats", her singles are always very bland and cheesy. Even "Temporary Home", which so many on here seemed to like, was predictable and forgettable, and lacked a real punch to get it's point across. She has some decent album tracks, but she needs to take the better half of this year focusing on singing some excellent songs and come back in the Fall re-focused and better then ever. Her star is kinda dimming out in terms of star power and that umph factor with the emergence of Miranda and Sara (and Taylor absolutely dominating the sales and tour world), but Carrie is still radio's darling, so if she can get a worthy single out there she can retake her spot on top.

I have to disagree with some of the statements made here about Carrie and her music esp comparing her to Miranda or whoever in a "they are more deep" way.. I think that perhaps the singles for Play On could have been chosen a little better but I don't think the material on the cd as a whole is fluff or cheesy..IMO, Mirandas cd is bland so when someone says hers is so much better and more deep then Carrie's I just have to wonder if I'm missing something.. I haven't listened to Saras so I can't comment on that or Taylors...Carrie has the talent to do anything she wants to do and I think the best is yet to come for her and her music.. Cowboy Casanova was a fantastic song and I can't see any of the other country artists giving us something like that at all.. She is more versitale then any of the artists out there and she may be down but I know she's not out, not by a long shot..

I don't find any of it cheesy. I think Miranda is just very critically acclaimed, so people just want Carrie to be so also. I would love that, but I think her music is really great how it is!

I wouldn't call JTTW and Wasted 'very bland and cheesy', tho. I would say the singles from her first two albums were pretty accurate. But yes, 'Play On' was a dissapointment for me. It was pretty much all over the place. Tracks like SWISLY and WCIS were very beautiful, and then you have tracks like Undo It and Play On which were imo the opposit. Those songs are way below her talent. Not to mention songs like Change which didn't fit the album at all, it should have been released as a single for a charity event, but should've not been on the album imo. For me it doesn't matter who she writes with, I hope she writes as much as possible. When she has loads of awesome songs, she can put it on the album. And I hope she keeps looking around for other writers songs aswell.

I think SWISLY and WCIS were a step in the right direction for Carrie. Yet neither of them became singles which is such a disappointment. SWISLY would've especially been the first step to getting her that critical acclaim, and then she could have followed SWISLY up with a kick-ass lead single from the next album. She still can do the latter, but it would have been nice to end the Play On Era with a critically acclaimed song.

I too get aggravated when people talk about how amazing Miranda's albums are. I mean, she has some good songs and I really like it. But I really don't see how her material is absolutely amazing and I don't understand all of the hype around her. Carrie has recorded material that's better than anything I've heard in a long time as far as country music goes. I think if SWISLY was released, it'd almost erase the monstrosity that was Mama's Song and put her back on top.
