IT'S STILL HAPPENING! :'( :'( :'( I am so unbelievably happy right now.
With the way she said "can't wait for y'all to hear it" makes me believe it's a song we've never heard before. :)

I wonder when we will hear it now August 31? Great news. Let's just hope we get confirmation from RCA and the label doesn't pull the rug out from her again. PS - add the August single release to the thread title, or are we too superstitious about that?

In all seriousness, the plan may be to release the single on iTunes on Friday, August 26 and debut it live at the VMAs on Sunday the 28th, with RCA pushing radio to pick it up Monday the 29th.

Isn't it more common for labels to send a song to radio before it goes on sale? But a VMA debut seems like a good idea.

YES, she speaks! But, still, I would have preferred something more official. Whenever she gives us a month it always ends up being pushed back further. #NotGettingMyHopesUpYET

Her release SCREAMS for a VMA performance. They better give it to her.

I'm not getting my hopes up for a VMA performance. She just never does big award shows anymore. The opportunity is always there, but it rarely ever materializes into a performance.

Great news. Let's just hope we get confirmation from RCA and the label doesn't pull the rug out from her again. You're the most optimistic fan I know. I'm all for a VMA performance obviously. Remember when we thought she would debut her single on the Idol Finale? And I'll change the title cause she seems sure of it this time.

What are the three worst decisions RCA has made regarding Kelly's career? Mine would be: 1.Not releasing Addicted:I would even say one of the worst decisions any record label has ever made. 2.Not releasing You Can't Win:Obviously just a guess, but I don't think it's the kind of song RCA likes. At this point, I'd be surprised if it makes the album. 3.Releasing The Trouble With Love Is:Low didn't perform all that well so I think You Thought Wrong was the obvious choice for the next single. I prefer The Trouble With Love Is over You Thought Wrong as a song but you knew it wouldn't perform well on the charts. LOL none of these are career damaging decisions. The entire My December fiasco is. If I was RCA I would recognize there were two smash hits off Breakaway(Since U Been Gone and Addicted) and one would be saved for later. Addicted would be the song I'd save and I think would have been even bigger than Since U Been Gone. I feel somewhat the same way about You Can't Win but obviously we don't know how the final version turned out. The third example wasn't but I'd say the first two are potentially career damaging.

I absolutely love Addicted but I don't kid myself into thinking it would have been as big as SUBG or BTHE. BTHE would have been the bigger radio hit, by the way, if it had not been for Mariah Carey releasing one of her biggest singles at the same exact time. Anyway, some songs are amazing songs but they aren't made for radio. I think radio would have embraced Addicted based on Kelly's huge momentum and all but it wasn't going to connect with everyone the same way SUBG did.

If we're assuming Addicted would have been the final single (after Walk Away) I also don't think it would have been as big as other singles. Walk Away had already just missed the top 10, so it was a sign that the era was probably reaching a natural conclusion. Addicted is too good to settle for a top 15 or 20 peak at best tbh, and in that case I would rather it stay an album gem than just do okay and then have people underrate it just because of it didn't do as well as other singles. (I see this happen a lot with other artists' songs.) Now had Addicted been released in the place of BTHE or BOY? I think it would have very much been a smash. But BTHE and BOY both more than held their own so this is hardly a travesty.

I had done a poll on this recently and I think it was 69% said Addicted would be a smash hit. The lyrics can be interpreted differently so I think there are a lot of people who could relate to it. Some say it's too heavy but there are rock songs that are much heavier that do very well on top 40.
