Country music extends its run of #1s to five of the last six weeks as Taylor Swift is poised to make history on next week's chart. At midweek, and barring an iTunes server meltdown or Target suddenly shutting its doors, Swift will score the largest first week ever for a female country artist, besting Shania Twain's Up debut of 874k in 2002. Can she beat Lil Wayne's 1.005m from 2008? She has that number clearly in her sights. And if she does, will it be by enough to unseat Garth Brooks' mark of 1.085m debut with Double Live in 1998? The last time a record debuted at close to or over a million (Lil Wayne in the week ending 6/15/08), the Top 15 totaled almost 2.1m. No such luck next week as it's shaping up to be a whopping 600k less. Here's how it all looks headed into the Halloween weekend. *Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 975k-1m Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) 85-90k Kings of Leon (RCA/RMG) 70-75k Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 40-45k Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 35-40k Glee Cast Rocky Horror Glee Show (Columbia) 28-32k Elton John & Leon Russell (Decca) 28-32k Rod Stewart (J/RMG) 24-27k Darius Rucker (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 24-27k *Michael Buble Hollywood: The Deluxe EP (Reprise) 21-24k The Band Perry (Universal Republic Nashville) 18-21k Kenny Chesney (BNA/SME Nashville) 18-21k Zac Brown Band (Atlantic) 18-21k Shakira (Epic) 18-21k Trey Songz (Atlantic) 18-21k Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 18-21k *Debuts (10/28p)

The gap between Eminem and Taylor Swift will close by 950K though ;) Yeah. But given it's what Em's 20th week or something that's to be expected. ;) Nothings changed in my mind. The 2 albums besides Recovery that had a shot at being the biggest selling album of the year have always been Swift and Boyle.

With taylor probably selling a million, how is it that she has yet to have a #1 on the BB Hot 100? I know that chart doesn't mean anything sometimes, but she is ridiculously popular... .

Yes, it is. imo. The two with the shot were Swift and Boyle.
I just don't think Eminem's sales are going to drop as much as you do.

My prediction for Top 4 selling albums of 2010: 1. Taylor Swift 'Speak Now' 2. Susan Boyle's christmas album (don't remember the title) 3. Eminem 'Recovery' 4. Lady Antebellum 'Need You Now' its cleverly named the gift haha

The majority of Speak Now's sales will be coming from physical CDs. Even if the album pulls out 300,000 in digital sales and even if 20% of that comes from Amazon, that's still only 60k, once again, hardly worthy of an asterik when considering the other 900k she'll be pulling in. I think I heard it the first 4 times I made the mistake. What about CD sales? Amazon isn't just digital sales unless that has changed. What % are they of total CD sales? It's no different than when people complain that Mariah sold her single for cheaper than everyone else...and that only happened at certain stores with her single loverboy. chill all 4 of those people replied within two minutes of each other, they didnt know about each others posts. also i remmeber rihannas album being able to be purchaed for .99% its first week cuz of two amazon deals. it didnt help her that much with its debut week did it ;) also realize while a good amount of people might buy it a 3.99 a bunch of them wouldve bought it regardless, they just saw the price was cheaper and bought it. why not go for something on sale, its not like everyone would only buy it cuz its on sale.

It makes a difference. I think they should put a star next to her name. having crazy fans who buy more than two or three copies make a difference. shipping more copies to more places makes a difference. just cuz something makes a difference doesnt mean it should be looked down upon. so her album went on sale, many have argued digital albums shuld be cheaper anyway, since u dont get as much stuff. theres nothing wrong with this

I never understood the buying more than one copy thing
It is totally a waste of money to buy multiple copies of the same album to push for or hope for a better chart position or in this case higher sales for the artist
The artist gets rich and you are out a lot of money, is all that will likely happen

Why does the UK have an obsession with Take That? Because they are a boy band that attracts loads of females. Their music is pretty bland. "Mine" has pretty much flopped in the UK, entered @ #30 in the UK charts this week, despite being A listed on the main national radio station. country doesnt sell as well in the UK as it does in the us. need you now peaked at 21 on their chart. you belong with me only made it to thirty. id put more examples but their hard to think of since country generally isnt released in the uk

Taylor is definitely not primarily country anymore but that's fine...Shania's 'Up' wasn't really that "country" either. Amazing sales for her...I really hope she can surpass the 1 million mark

Leads to platinum sales, grammy noms ect... It could easily mean the difference between her album debuting with 900k vs 450k.

WOW @ T.Swifts sales! Are they serious? 1 million?!
To me it doesn't add up though. Her 1st single isn't even that big and she hasn't had any major US TV appearance since the VMA's last month. Good for her though, her and her team are marketing genius'.

Not necessarily believeing this makes any difference at all (outside of negligible) Most of the million buying the Taylor Swift album do not post here (or similar sites) Most are buying because it is a Taylor Swift album To most buying 5 copies of Speak Now is like getting a 12 dollar album for 60 dollars. To get from 450K to 900K implies that virtually everyone who is buying the album bought more than one

Uh, no it might mean the difference between 900k vs 890k but the percentage of people crazy enough to buy themselves multiple copies of an album is verrrry low. Someone has severely out-of-whack priorities if they do that too.

There have been numerous documented instances of fan-induced "download days" to push a song up the chart that have had almost no effect at all
This would be enough to convince me that not everyone is willing to pay 60 dollars for a 12 dollar CD

The Taylor Swift catches Eminem watch This weeks gap: 2.86 million Projected gap for next week: 1.9 million 1/3 of the way So is that what you are predicting? Recovery won't be the #1 selling album of the year? Ok then. We will see. I think it's a Lock for Eminem. And you can claim otherwise but im not just saying that cause i'm an Eminem fan. I'm saying that i believe Recovery will be a 3.2-3.3 Million at the end of the year and I see Recovery getting it by like 150 K. Then again last year people thought i was nuts when i said Relapse would sell more than The Blueprint 3 in '09. I came out right then. I'll come out right now.

LOL - I am not making a prediction or claiming anything at all I know you are predicting Eminem will be #1, you said 2 albums had a shot but now they don't. OK fine. If Taylor Swift had released 20 weeks ago and it was Eminem that was selling the million this week would you be saying the same thing?

Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 975k-1m What a weak rest of the chart! Thank God Taylor released lol All the other major acts avoided this week like the plague, lol.[/quo If predictions are at 975k now, then I think she will hit 1M. I can't see her just selling 980k or something without her company helping it on its way to 1M. I would be surprised if they don't do that like they did for Ashanti...
