She's on pace to get over 20 in her career. :o Of course that's unlikely, but still possible. I don't think you can really say anyone is on pace to get x amount of #1's in their career. Mariah had 10 #1's in her first five years, so logic would have it that she'd have 40 by now, right? This could very well be Rihanna's last #1, or she could have 10 more. Who knows.

Mariah had 11 #1's in first 5 years and they were all solo or she was the lead artist. It took her 12 years to reach 7 more #1's, #1's don't come just like that, as an artist gets older chances are smaller. So surpassing Mariah is not easy.
I remember everyone bitching and calling it unfair when Mariah released TMB on Monday but no one is bitching about that when Rihanna does it.
Purpose of singles is to promote albums and having 8 #1's and not even 5 million albums sold in USA is shameful.
That said, this song is my favorite of Rihanna.

Rihanna maybe have been in the business for only 5 years, but she has already released as much music as Britney in her career. I can see her reaching as much #1's as JJ and Madonna but MiMi's record is too far away.

wow. can't stand Rihanna. saying she is a legend is way over the top. maybe someday she will be considered that, but right now she is on pace with Paula Abdul's career.
lol

Well, I think it shows that she is a singles artist and although stans swear up and down that she has defined herself as an artist...clearly the public has not supported it more than buying a single they like. Let her have the 1 hits...she's not getting them on her album or doing that great tourwise. At least there is something to strive for and I don't see anyone near her as competition at this point.

Well, Rihanna's had more hit albums than Abdul (though never one as successful as Forever Your Girl). At the moment, they both have six No. 1 Hot 100 hits as a lead act.
Stating the obvious, but the charts mean nothing more or less than the tracks with the most airplay and/or sales in a week, and the albums with the most sales in a week. it's the luck of the draw, really, commercial success in a given moment of time.

I'm pretty surprised that Rihanna is as successful as she is. But then again, wouldn't really think Mariah Carey is worth of 18 #1's as an artist. But that's the way it is and good for them.

I think GGGB is the only "hit" album that can be accounted for Rihanna. Paula has 2 and a platinum compilation album. As much as we like to discredit Rihanna, you have to admit she made her collaborations the hit that they were as much as the lead artist

The "featuring" trend certainly has plumped up the number of chart entries for many an act (especially in the R&B/hip-hop world), especially over the last several years.

Rihanna continues to amaze me as a global star with 8 US #1's to her name and no signs of slowing down.

^Yes, it's about marketing more than anything else. To use a tired example, look at all the acts regarded as the best of all time, that have none or few No. 1 Hot 100 hits. It's just a measure of popularity at any given moment of time.

if i'm correct, Shania Twain has never had a #1 album nor a #1 single.
EDIT: Up! was her only #1 album.
