Madonna's last successful 3rd single from an album was Cherish in 1989. Discuss. I think the #11 peak of The Power of Goodbye makes that a successful single.

Always curious to hear what's next from her. A Superbowl performance is huge--if the song isn't a total mess, it should have no problem getting to #1. Yeah to be honest if it's a hit, I think the exposure will push it to #1 at least digitally. May fall like a rock after that if radio don't support it, but you can't have everything!

She's almost the same age Cher was when she went to #1 with "Believe". It would be interesting if Madonna could pull of a #1. The last artist to pull of a #1 in their 50s was Santana in 2000.

Well if anyone's gonna do it... it'll be her.
I think she'd stand a good chance of being able to maintain at least a level success if she had another break-out like 'Believe' was - although it was mostly down to its production, her voice on Confessions was very light, high-pitched and certainly wouldn't sound out of place on pop radio at the moment. She has a great studio voice. Hope they do something similar this time round... Instead of leaving it to rot as they did on HC.

She's actually already older than Cher was when "Believe" hit #1, Cher was 52 while Madge turned 53 on August 16th. If she gets another #1 she'll break Cher's record of being the oldest female act to get a #1 single in the U.S. She would also edge out Santana's and Sinatra's ages by several months. (They both pulled off 2 #1s post-50, it would be incredible, and miraculous, if Madonna manged that.) In fact, if she ever gets another Hot 100 #1 only Louis Armstrong will have had a #1 at an older age. He was 62 when "Hello, Dolly!" topped the chart in 1964. Also, if she were to get another #1 she will become the first act to get a U.S. #1 single in 4 different decades. The Jackson 5 hit #1 in 1969, but obviously those aren't credited to Michael Jackson along with his 70s, 80s, and 90s solo #1s. Many other acts like Sinatra and Janet Jackson have managed 3 decades with at least one #1, but never 4. Madonna would also surpass Sinatra and MJ's time span of Hot 100 #1s, even if we include the Jackson 5 #1s, and it would put her behind only Cher and Louis Armstrong on the list of acts with longest time between their first week and last week at #1 on the Hot 100.

Madonnarama:
We already revealed the first producers that are working on Madonna’s upcoming album: William Orbit and Martin Solveig. Another producer we can add on that list is none other than Benny Benassi.
Madonna and Benny Benassi are again working together for the upcoming 2012 album and we at Madonnarama can reveal the title of the track: “Girls Gone Wild“.
The song has already been recorded and is, for sure, going to be a huge dance track and possibly be released as one of the singles from the forthcoming album.
In 2009, Benny Benassi remixed Madonna’s single Celebration, but this wasn’t the first time they collaborated. Back in 2003, Benny Benassi also remixed the song “American Life”, but it never got approved and remains unreleased.
Stay tuned for more exclusive info on Madonna’s upcoming album…

I loved the Benny Benassi remix of "Celebration", but again this and the song title fill me with dread. It sounds equally throwaway and cartoony as Hard Candy, just with dated dance instead of dated urban.
Imagining the song being this, but with Madge's head on the models:

Girls Gone Wild? Sounds like one of her dodgy musicals.

Yeah I'm not really impressed with the current list of collaborators. William Orbit? Benassi? This isn't 2003. I'm not crazy about Solveig in general as well.

Madonna's last successful 3rd single from an album was Cherish in 1989. Discuss. This pretty much only applies to the US though. She's had 3rd (and later) singles smash in various overseas markets since 1989. True that! PLUS even though she may not have had huge chart smashes after the second singles, there are still several songs that many would consider Madonna classics, such as "Human Nature," "Bedtime Story," "What It Feels Like For A Girl," "Bad Girl," "Rain," etc.

^Yes, but they were "disappointments" compared to the singles that preceded them. M sometimes has released risky material, whether in terms of sound or theme, but none more perplexing than "Bedtime Story," which was very odd for top 40 radio. But, glad she released it, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten that video.
"Bad Girl" was a downer of a track, no surprise it got no higher than No. 36. WIFLFAG had that sorta disconnect between the radio version and the video version- not that the video was played more than once.

Releasing 'Bad Girl' was a mistake. Hell, even 'Waiting' would have fared better on top 40 radio.
But, like HolidayGuy said about 'Bedtime Story', 'Bad Girl' happened to have a great video.

Indeed- same with something like "Oh Father," which also was a downer (even though it had the uplifting "you can't hurt me now..."- it was a very somber- and brilliant- track. Some were surprised that "Live to Tell" did as well as it did, as it was quite a departure from the material that preceded it. That's our M, though- pushing the boundaries of pop music and what it can say. :)

Scoring a Hot 100 chart-topper at this stage would be surprising. But, can never say never, I guess. Odds are not in her favor, but she's surprised before.

On the revised Hot 100, she was #26 the next week. Cherish was Madonna's last 3rd single that went Top 10. I was only talking USA. WBR didn't even try with HC's 3rd single, Miles Away. Same with COADF's Get Together... Same with AL's NF... At least Music's 3rd single had a video and some airplay...

WIFLFAG should have been released in its original sound. The slower version is perfection. The one released with the video was awful!

'Bedtime Story' happened to have a great video. Oh hell yes. It's her best video in my opinion. It's like a look inside the mind of Madonna.

She turned to art-world inspirations for the "Bedtime Story" video. It is one of her best and most elaborate, though I don't necessarily think it's thee best. :)

Small portions of the song has leaked to places you probably know Sounds very 80's, but with a modern flair. Sounds nothing like the generic dance crap you hear out there, which was the thing I feared the most. I hope this new sound clicks with the casual listeners.

Listening Session for Madonna's new albumThere are a lot of speculations and doubts regarding a listing session for Madonna's forthcoming album. DrownedMadonna.com can confirm that there was INDEED a listening session at the offices of her new record company. It took place at the beginning of the third decade of last month, before any info regarding the first single "Give Me All Your Love" leaked. Nine songs have been played and they got a very good reaction. The sound is described as very fresh. As we already reported, the album has nothing to do with "Hard Candy" - fortunately we say! During the listening session with the label representatives the ballad to be included in the soundtrack of W.E. has been played as well. Read more: drownedmadonna.com/#ixzz1d7p26LW4I take all these "exclusive" articles from her fan sites with a grain of salt. Madonnarama, Madonnatribe and Drownedmadonna are all in competion about revealing exclusive news. lol. It's fun and adds to the excitement but they are just rumors right now.

The GMAYL clips are more 60's sounding than 80's. If they are an indication of the album's sound, then it appears that 'Music' William Orbit came to the table, as opposed to 'Ray of Light' William Orbit, which is kind-of a shame.
But it seems to be a happy, feel-good type of song, very reminiscent of 'Beautiful Stranger.' Possibly to Madonna's credit, it sounds nothing like you can find on today's radio - but is it forward-thinking or simply out of touch?
Of course, with Madonna, she's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. She would have been ridiculed had she put out a single with a Katy Perry/Lady GaGa type sound or really anything that sounds like today's generic dance-pop radio landscape.

The leaked clips are shite to be honest.
As a major Madonna fan I'm totally let down, but I was afraid this would happen with the rumored Solveig.
