Like a Prayer and Ray of Light usually are thw two albums that get cited as her best. For me, I give a slight edge to LAP. Love the use of live instruments on Like a Prayer- pasy albums obviously included live instruments, but this one probably had the most variety. The segue from "Dear Jessie" to "Oh Father" has to be one of the best on record. Going from a happy childhood-themed track to a dark, brooding childhood track- love it. The album ends with the jarring "Act of Contrition," but given the theme of the album, it works. Took me a while to warm some to "Love Song," but I don't mind it (though it may be the weak link among the album's "regular" tracks). I do love the guitars on ROL, too- and, actually, it's an album that had a more profound impact on me than LAP (probably of what I was experiencing at the time- I was 23 when ROL came out, vs. 14 for LAP). Wow! Great memories!! My first cassette ever was True Blue. I remember I played it non-stop twice just walking around the living room of my house :) The LAP cassette was the present that my mom gave me on my 13th birthday. I LOVED IT and is still my favorite Madonna album. Agree with the transition DJ-OH. Awesome! The sound variety was great, too, from lullabies (DJ) to Flamenco-inspired ballad (Spanish Eyes), to R&B-infused ballad (LS), to more retro sounds like those in Cherish (in the vein of True Blue) or Express Yourself (with the trumpet sounds that felt like Latin inspired as well). Most of the songs charted in my personal chart (barring LS, AoC and PtT), and a non-single became one of my favorite Madonna's songs ever: Till Death Do Us Part, which meant a lot to me at that moment. It also took me time to warm to LS and PtT, but I gave in eventually. I loved AoC from the first time I heard it. I liked the guitar sound a lot, too. If I recall correctly there was a shortened version of Like a Prayer that had a strong guitar sound in the last minute or so that shortened the last part of the song with the gospel choir. I loved that edit as well. ROL is also a modern classic. I loved most of the songs over there and I think it has more artsy and complexity than LAP. When I first heard Frozen it surprised me a lot. I compared it to music from Lorena McKenit and that style, with a really clear vocal performance by Madonna that I was not that used to hearing from her. ROL was simply ahead of its time. And TPOG was flawless and one of my favorite ballads from her. I remember Fred Bronson saying that this was the most powerful 1-2-3 punch from Madonna, comparable to the 1-2-3 of LAP. I'm looking forward to a new Madonna classic album!! Hopefully it is forward-looking and has some new classics :) The other day I was watching the S&S DVD (Live from Buenos Aires) and I appreciated many of her songs from HC. I am still pissed off at how some potentially really good songs were messed up: - "Heartbeat" got fucked up with the HORRIBLE "see my booty got down" but other than that it's a great track - "The Beat Goes On" got me jarring with the use (again) of the 'anticipating', 'hesitating' and other similar overused words. Ugh! - "She's Not Me" should've just be shortened instead of being extended and stretched with random stuff And well, I can never get tired of hearing Miles Away (that should've been a HIT! >:( ) or Devil... (another potential hit). One thing is true, tho: "Spanish Lesson" is one of the WORST Madonna songs ever... and her dancing to the song was almost embarrassing. JCI

'The Power of Goodbye' is my favorite Madge track of all-time!!! Flawless, beautiful...and I LOVE the video. She looks stunning. That song gives such a melancholic feeling inside. I'm so connected to that song because of something I was going through at the time. :'(

^That- and the whole ROL album- served as a healer of sorts for me upon release. Even though she was singing about a very specific Madonna thing in a song like "Drowned World"- I don't know, it just spoke to me. And, of course, the universal-theme tracks on the album. I like when she said at the time that every album should have one super-sentimental track on it (referring to "Little Star"). That makes tracks like that stand out more than if it were an album littered with sentimental/sappy tracks.

I love all her albums but she had me at True Blue. I became a stan singing her songs to my curious family.

Plus i loved the blue theme of the album artwork. Skin is basically old-skool techno.

Sky Ferreira pays tribute to music’s ultimate Icon [V Magazine - The Music Issue]Sky Ferreira recently tweeted a picture of herself backstage ready for a Madonna inspired photoshoot by Mario Testino for V Magazine. Have a look at the full editorial… Fashion’s favorite new material girl, Sky Ferreira, is causing a commotion in campaigns and front rows – but she’s also on the borderline of finishing her debut album. “It will be different than people expect,” she says. Of course, nobody knows how to subvert expectation like Madonna. Here, Sky takes a moment with Mario Testino to pay tribute to music’s ultimate icon. She shares… Madonna inspires me to be strong, fearless, and smart. She’s more than just sexy, or someone with good songs, she’s the type of woman I want to be. I want to inspire people the way she has. Madonna's Gimme All Your Luvin to hit radio on February 7th 2012Madonna's first single, Gimme All Your Luvin, from her upcoming album is impacting radio on February 7th, 2012, according to AllAccess.com. Well, apparently it is impacting two days after the Super Bowl Half Time Show and not on late January as announced on the latest press release. Note that All Access is calling the song as Give Me All Your Love instead of Gimme All Your Luvin. Read more: drownedmadonna.com/#ixzz1ilwrfH8P

Released to radio after the SB may draw greater interest. I imagine it will be released to iTunes the same day?
On the subject of songs, I've always thought that Push is an infectious and brilliantly layered track. I don't understand why some say it is their least favorite from Confessions.

Note that it says the impact date- so, radio probably will spin it before then.
"Push" and 'Like it Or Not" are the runts of the COADF litter- the former is too repetitive (certain Pulse posters may think that since I can be at times, I'd love it. haha But no. it's not terrible, but it's one track I don't seek out)
"Isaac" is rather epic for me. :)

Tidbits from Drowned Madonna- not sure why it says Jan. 15 (a Sunday), but here it is... www.drownedmadonna.com/index/item/396-madonna-new-album-and-single-latest-news-on-the-radio-and-digital-release-of-gimme-all-your-luvin-more-newsbits.htmlNews on the Radio and Digital Release of Gimme All Your Luvin & More NewsbitsBesides what it's scheduled on AllAccess.com, according to DrownedMadonna.com, the radio and digital release of Madonna's Gimme All Your Luvin is still tentatively planned for January 15th. We heard that, even though the melody is not so different from the demo that earlier leaked online, the final version of Gimme All Your Luvin is described harder, with a lot of bass and beats. Last but not least, we heard that they are having some second thoughts about Masterpiece. Since it doesn't fit the album very well, they have some last minute doubts. Therefore, there are some possibilities that Masterpiece will not be included in the album. We have to wait and see.

Get Together is my least favorite song on the cd and I love Push, Like it or Not and Isaac. I just never clicked with Get Together-like, I was always bored before the song ended. Overall, excellent cd though.

COADF is one of her albums that is difficult to skip a track - they are all that good. Isaac slows it down a bit but is still great with its buildup. When I first heard the album, I was amazed with it's energy and lyrics too. Let It Will Be would have made a good single. I remember her being on CBS morning talk show promoting it and that it debut #1 in I believe 37 countries and when she was asked about her rebound, she said with a sly grin something like "well, when my crown falls, I just pick it up and dust it off and put it back on". Gotta love her.

I believe the soundtrack is available on iTunes Jan 31. Hopefully the song is too. Surely it's on the soundtrack.

Maybe "Masterpiece" will be album-only. Not like there are plans to promote it to radio or anything.

I really wish they would let the airplay build before putting it on Itunes but the SuperBowl performance should surely push it to #1 on Itunes. When the Queen gets another #1, i want everyone to shut up!

Yea, I thought the previous set up (about a week of prior airplay, and then the Superbowl performance/iTunes release) was perfect. I still think this will hit #1, just because the set up is just so huge.
