How did I miss this for months and months?? Oh CeCe......if that's you're prerogative, that's fine, but "I can cast a spell" making a song "demonic"...Really?

I grew up evangelical, so I get why CeCe feels the way she feels. She did what she felt was right, but what is interesting to me is how she was quick to say Whitney is in heaven despite drugs being found in her system. While I truly believe God does not care about drugs like that, a TRUE evangelical Christian wouldn't say that. She didn't REALLY want smoke but she made her comment and it is what it is.

Being a huge Whitney fan after hearing that she may have recorded some of the songs on the “MLIYL” in a few takes I actually think she could have slightly cleaned a few of them up. One song being “You’ll Never Stand Alone”. I love it, but there’s always been one note at the 3:00 minute point that could have been done again. “I Was Made To Love Him” could have been cleaned up a bit as well. She sounded a little tired on that track. I guess they were going for a more raw approach, at the time I remember being taken back by some of the tracks.

I bet there's almost nothing in the vault for MLIYL. I think it started as sessions for a Greatest Hits and she and Clive got so much interest that they turned it into a full album.
In fact, I don't think Whitney was one to over-record much at all, so there's probably only a few songs here or there that aren't out already.

The reason “I Was Made To Love Him” was included was because Whitney didn’t have time to learn a new song and that’s why she remade it with Lauryn Hill. I believe she had a new song for her. So I highly doubt there’s anything left over from the “MLIYL” sessions. It was recorded in 6 weeks.

What is Whitney's best album? Does she have a great album start to finish, or was she more of a singles artist? I need to expand the Whitney selection in my music library beyond her biggest singles and I Look To You but I'm not sure where to start.

I might be biased because it represents such a fun time in my life (I was 15 when it was released), but it's such a solid collection of songs. I do think it drops off just a little at the back end, but I can still happily listen to this album from start to finish all these years later.

I'm gonna go out of left field and say I Look to You. All of her other studio albums have some filler but that one doesn't, to me. And it would be even better if her voice were in better shape at the time.

My personal favorite is "I'm Your Baby Tonight". Hugely underrated album, IMO. Her vocals and the production on some of the songs sound so ethereal to me that it got me feeling some type of way. My second favorite is the "Whitney" album.

In terms of the albums as released, I agree with Leigh that My Love is Your Love is her best album. It has a cohesive sound, and its quality is pretty consistent throughout. Having said that, on a different day I might say The Preacher's Wife as well. It isn't as sonically cohesive as MLIYL, but song for song its quality is very high and features incredible singing (of course). Having said all of that, if we include bonus tracks and the like (and more so can sort of re-create her albums ourselves), my answer would then align with 🇯🇲 lucy88 🇯🇲 For my money I'm Your Baby Tonight has some low moments, but I also think the b-sides and such for that album are career highlights. So on my version I add in "Takin' A Chance," "Dancing on the Smooth Edge," "Feels So Good," and her original version of "Higher Love" and it really lifts the quality of the album for me.

I think 'Whitney' (1987) is my favorite by her. "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" is constantly stuck in my head and the album as a whole is just very memorable to me. 'My Love Is Your Love' is also up there.

I recently got the vinyl because I love it so much. “My love is your love” is a close second for me but I love all of her albums in a way. I agree that “I’m your baby tonight” is underrated.

I was reading Clive’s book and one of his letters that he wrote Whitney in 1997, and I don’t fully understand it. Was he not happy with the success of her soundtracks? And what “seven pop songs” was he talking about? Didn’t she release much more than seven songs from those three soundtracks?
“Whitney, you know my love for you goes beyond the professional nature of our relationship, which in and of itself is almost as long as the age you were when I met you. To put it succinctly, I am seriously concerned. I know that I have absolutely no right to reflect on anything but your professional recording career, so let me address that. You have not done a studio album in seven years. You have only recorded a total of seven pop songs during the last five years and those were chosen to integrate into the characters of two motion pictures. So insofar as your position as the number one contemporary recording artist in the world is concerned, you have been practically missing in action.”

Even though she had songs on The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale, they weren't all Whitney songs. The Preacher's Wife was basically all Whitney, but it was half gospel which she likely wouldn't have done if it was a normal Whitney album. Maybe Clive was making less money off the soundtracks than he was Whitney albums. Also just because a song is a single doesn't mean it's "pop." Singles like "Count on Me" and "Why Does It Hurt So Bad" weren't pop, so I guess he was pushing for her to make more songs like the ones she made in the 1980s. We know Clive was always pushing her in that direction.

I’m going to guess he meant commercially available songs as she only released four from The Bodyguard OST ( Queen of the Night wasn’t commercially available so it didn’t chart like it would have based on charting rules then) and three singles off Waiting to Exhale OST. My guess is The Preacher’s Wife OST was probably released around the time he wrote the letter. Personally, while I like those in between projects, I’ve always felt that she should have release more albums.

My brain went down a rabbit hole today, so here's a list of songs where Whitney has co-writing credit, according to Wikipedia. If someone has a physical copy of Just Whitney, can you please check the liner notes? I don't remember her having that many writing credits beyond "Whatchulookinat."
Takin' a Chance Queen of the Night Count on Me It's Not Right, But It's Okay Get It Back Fine One of Those Days My Love Love That Man Dear John Letter Unashamed Whatchulookinat Like I Never Left I Got You
Also - co-producer credits: I'm Knockin' Jesus Loves Me Somebody Bigger Than You & I

They don't list her as a writer on "INRBIO," "Get It Back," or "Fine" either. I can check the MLIYL liner notes when I get home later.

Isn't Queen of the Night a cover? Did she change a word or two?
