The fact that Bon "Um... okay... thanks for the Grammy, I guess" Iver won the exact same award Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Adele won when they first started out is downright offensive.

Ummmm... Because Christina Aguilera is the height of artistic credibility? Especially with her completely average debut album? Bon Iver deserved it, period. Just because he doesn't have mainstream success doesn't make him undeserving.

Bon Iver was definitely one of the most worthy candidates this year IMO and I saw his win coming. His latest album was absolutely fantastic.

Natalie Mainesβ Own Fans Donβt Like Her Jason Aldean DigβAs far as you thinking I was ever some lover of country music, you just thought wrong,β Natalie tells one fan.Brad Schmitt | Published: Feb 16, 2012 The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines is no stranger to saying controversial things. Remember a certain overseas criticism of then-President Bush that effectively destroyed the Chicks' country career? Here's what Natalie tweeted during the Jason Aldean-Kelly Clarkson "Don't You Wanna Stay" duet on the Grammys: "Well the good thing about his mic going out is suddenly the song got a lot more in tune;)" And Natalie, who conceded she hasn't kept up with country music recently, then showed she didn't even know who Jason was: "By 'he' I mean whoever the guy was singing with Kelly Clarkson." Dozens of Natalie's own fans called the comments mean. And while Natalie seemed to back off some afterward, saying that every performer can have a bad night, Natalie went on to add that she's not so fond of country music. "Oh I'm sorry I've disappointed you," she tweeted to a 20-year-old fan named Michelle. "As far as you thinking I was ever some lover of country music, you just thought wrong. I've got a handful of country people I like, but I've always been very open about my musical preferences. I liked the Dixie Chicks. "I didn't know I had to sign on for everything country. Music's subjective. There shouldn't be rules. Different strokes for different folks. All the best, N." One country stroke Natalie does like: Taylor Swift. "Haven't seen anybody make the banjo look sexy since [fellow Dixie Chick] Emily Robison. #goodjobtaylorswift," Natalie tweeted.Country Weekly

The "backlash" against Natalie's tweet is ridiculous. She's not required to like country music. Beyond that, Jason was totally off key that night.

I barely know anything about the Dixie Chick's music, but now that's going to change soon. Anyways, nothing she said was incorrect anyways to be perfectly frank.

I don't disagree with what Natalie tweeted at all. In fact, I was saying pretty much the same thing on my couch at home. The only issue here is that she has a bigger platform for her comments because she is in the public eye. Her country music fans should learn to be less defensive, in my opinion...because she is entitled to hers.

I agree with everyone else who responded. He definitely deserved to win. The Grammys aren't EVERYTHING to all musicians. He seemed appreciative, but also a little bewildered to be up on stage accepting an award at such a big industry event. Much like, say, how Elliott Smith appeared performing at the Academy Awards in the 90's. And, for the record, Milli Vanilli also won best new artist.
