Fine, then it would be "Best Video that Includes a Diva with an Angry Fanbase", just so Christina fans can be happy next year when she gets snubbed in everything else.

isn't Mean's video just her with a banjo? If only Ke$ha tried on the We R Who We R video, I would actually be upset she got snubbed for the only category she deserved

From what I recall, the "Mean" video shows bullying/teased-victim scenarios, as well as Swift with a banjo. :)

LMAO @ this category. I just can't. This was just a category to give Katy and Gaga more nominations Oh and if they want to introduce more categories, then they should bring back Best R&B Video, Best Group Video and Best Dance Video instead of coming up with this crappy category

What exactly was the message in Love The Way You Lie? Basically, the video seems slightly dark and has a Megan Fox cameo, so let's nominate it!

This is so stupid. The award part of the VMAs hasn't been relevant for a good seven or eight years now, maybe even longer, and the fact that they now choose nominations mainly based on what was a hit rather than who actually made an interesting video just underscores more how irrelevant MTV really is. They no longer remember the purpose of their own damn award show. The show is only good for performances now (though even that can be hit or miss depending on the year); in fact I wish they would scrap the award show entirely and just produce a megastar concert every year.
So on top of being irrelevant in general, they decide that's not enough and add a new category just to appease some angry fans. So now they are also either pandering or just being condescending, not sure which is worse. And they still didn't fix the Rihanna snub - Man Down would have made more sense as a nomination here than LTWYL. I guess the Navy was not pressed enough (and rightfully so) for MTV to notice.

Why are people pressed about LTWYL? I'm sorry.. Is domestic violence not important enough for you? At least it's the only video there that has a message that doesn't have to do with loving who you are, etc.
That said... Man Down had a powerful message too. However, I think most Americans don't really "get" that message as murders provoked by rape aren't at the forefront of our society. At least in the news, discussion, etc.

NEW CATEGORY: Best Video With A Message Nominees
Eminem f/ Rihanna "Love the Way You Lie" Katy Perry "Firework" Lady Gaga "Born This Way" P!nk "F****** Perfect" Rise Against "Make it Stop (September's Children)" Taylor Swift "Mean" www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2011/best-video-with-a-message/ Hopefully LTWYL wins. The others songs have BS "love yourself" messages that we've all heard 651281982 times.

I only asked about LTWYL since I've never really had the interest to watch the video.

There are dozens and dozens of videos with a message, even for hit songs. Far Away by Marsha Ambrosius for example handles gay theme very well and was a huge r&b hit.
So it's all about videos which fit into the image of MTV and that's why the same Katy Perrys and Eminems are up for this moonman as well.
Far Away apparently doesn't fit in.

I agree. Marsha Ambrosius has released 2 amazing videos with a strong message, but she was overlooked. You guys should look them up.

What exactly was the message in Love The Way You Lie? I never watched the video more than once, but I don't recall it having this strong message. Why are people pressed about LTWYL? I'm sorry.. Is domestic violence not important enough for you? It is important, but imo it isn't portrayed that well in the video. The 2 characters go back and forth arguing and making out as far as I can recall and then there's a house burning and Eminem singing in a field. I've seem better videos, tbh. And while none of the other ones nominated in the category are genius/original, at least the "love yourself" message is portrayed better (Katy and P!nk, Gaga was nominated for the song more than anything and the other 2 I can't judge because I've never watched them) Again, my opinion.

They don't have an R&B category and unless you are Beyonce, you won't get a VMA nom. I don't think 'Far Away' has been played on MTV.

And year after year they complain about ratings....SMDH.
The Pulse Music Awards is way more coherent than this Fake Mtv Awards. What does Mtv know about Video Quality and excellence? THEY DON'T EVEN PLAY VIDEOS NO MORE!!

I don't think 'Far Away' has been played on MTV. and this: What exactly was the message in Love The Way You Lie? It is important, but imo it isn't portrayed that well in the video. Man Down has a video that actually added a message where there originally wasn't one; the song on its own would likely not be perceived as a message song. LTWYL isn't even a good video in general, and it is completely devoid of the message that's in the song. Far Away and Late Nights, Early Mornings...well, there's no point in even mentioning r&b artists at this point when it comes to MTV. And my wank over this is a moot point because like I said before it's obvious these nominations are only based on hits/star power and not the actual videos. Don't even get me started on the mistake of allowing so many of these categories to be fan voted. It used to mean something when they would have that one viewer's choice award. I'm officially that old bitty who complains about how things were so much better in my day. Sigh.

The other videos are just generic corny sh*t.

"Don't hit your girlfriend or she'll try to leave you" More like... if you hit your girlfriend lie and tell her that you'll never do it again because she s probably dumb enough to believe you.

Herp derp "just underscores more how irrelevant MTV really is" "Well, what a surprise: MTV’s 2010 Video Music Awards was a ratings bonanza on Sunday night, pulling in the largest audience of any telecast on the network since 2002, according to a press release. That equates to 11.4 million viewers tuning in to watch the program, which will be in MTV’s history books as the third most-watched show of all time for the network. (Of all time!)" marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/14/surprise-surprise-mtv-vmas-pulled-in-huge-ratings/
