I dont think Katy perry is a ratings draw. I highly doubt people would tune in just to watch Katy Perry win.....i know she had a great year this year but for some reason it seems people dont really care about the persona of katy perry. Maybe im alone on this

^Britneys 2 nominations will probably draw more people than all of Katys 7 nominations combined.
I hope Redfoo and SkyBlu win, they deserve it, they're the only ones actually dancing in their video.

I have a feeling the list of performers is going to be great to battle these lackluster nominations.

I'm just shocked that "S&M" isn't nominated for anything.

This nominations list is hardly going to get anyone excited for the show so they really have to pull in big names to perform ala Bey, Eminem, Gaga, Brit, Kanye, etc. They need all those actually.

Maybe im alone on this I think that's why we'll see the awards being more spread out among the nominees like in '09 instead of seeing one artist sweep like in '10

This is a joke. As much as I love the song, "Rolling in the Deep" shouldn't be nominated for anything at the VMA's. So many great videos are being overlooked. I mean, how do these videos even get nominated? They aren't fan-voted, are they?

It'll be interesting considering this is fan-voted. Not to be a total conspiracy theorist but does anyone think Gaga/Britney were left out of VOTY because MTV knew their rabid fanbases would put them over the edge?
Katy doesn't necessarily have an insane fanbase that's known to go crazy on these things but I think with the VOTY competition, she'll win. Adele could surprise. Hell, Tyler The Creator has gone crazy on twitter asking his fan base to vote so who knows.
With the above in mind, Britney may be in good shape for Pop Video and Beyonce/Gaga for Female Video.
Predictions VOTY - Firework Male Video - Love The Way You Lie Female Video - Born This Way Collaboration - Look At Me Now or E.T. Pop Video - Till The World Ends Rock Video - Pumped Up Kicks Hip Hop Video - Super Bass Art Direction - Power Choreography - Run The World (Girls) Cinematography - Rolling In The Deep Direction - Love The Way You Lie Editing - E.T. Special Effects - E.T.
I'm thinking 3 or 4 for Katy. 1 for everybody else except possibly for Chris Brown, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Kanye West.

The Gaga/Britney stans always go hard when it comes to these things and they work themselves up over much less important polls so best believe they would go all out for something like this. Any of Katy's categories where either of them are in, she should lose if it goes by votes, but I'm sure there are behind the scenes politics that outweigh that if it's not in their ultimate favor.

I still think VMA's not held in NYC suck in general, based on past observations. I do hope to see more artist and less TV personalities come to the awards. Last year was so star-deprived

The NYC shows are always so good. I still get 2009's promo stuck in my head. Taylor, Ne-Yo, Cobra, Russel, Katy, etc. all rocked it in that song!

Britney, Rihanna, Gaga Fans Protest VMA Nominations On Twitter, WikipediaThe 2011 VMA Nominations, revealed late last night, contained not a few surprises for pop music fans, many of whom flocked to Twitter (where #vmanominationfailure is still trending) or Wikipedia (where the 2011 VMAs entry is locked after hours of vandalism). The loudest fanbase is that of Lady Gaga, who received three nominations (one for “Born This Way” and two for “Judas,” which the Little Monsters apparently prefer)—a pittance to these fans, especially in contrast to Katy Perry‘s nine and Adele‘s seven. The latter was more galling to the pop monsters, who after only a bit of Katy Perry slut-shaming moved on to “Adele is fat” jokes (or, more generously, “‘Rolling In The Deep’ is great but the video is boring” complaints). Britney Spears‘s and Rihanna‘s fans are also quite vocal about the two and zero nominations the artists got, respectively. (Rihanna is a featured artist on Eminem‘s three-times nominated—though not for Best Collaboration—”Love the Way You Lie” and Kanye West‘s four-times nominated “All of the Lights” but has no nominations for her own videos.) Other much-observed snubs include Ke$ha (no nominations despite the eligibility of both “We R Who We R” and “Blow”), J. Cole for Best New Artist (with fans particularly surprised that Kreayshawn and Tyler, The Creator got nominated) and Jennifer Lopez‘s “On The Floor,” which, as our Song Of The Summer metrics have documented, has performed much better on YouTube than anywhere else. srcTons of stories like this going around. By big news stations too.

No noms for "On the Floor"(Biggest song of the year and 300 million views on YT for the video) and 0 noms for Rihanna.
Ridiculous.

Idk, I don't agree with the fat jokes but I think everyone knows the nominations are bad. It's not as if it's one fanbase not happy but it goes across the board. Even people who aren't stans of the people snubbed are upset.
All the other girls have won VOTY, they probably felt it was Katy's year (which given her success, it kinda is tbh) but that's not to say others didn't deserve to get more than they ended up with. It's just shady that they had to shut people out in the big categories to ensure that she has a good chance to win.

I expect to see Lil' Wayne, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Adele perform. I'm sure they'll try to get Britney on board.

Gaga & Katy probably will, Adele will get a standing ovation like she usually does, Beyonce will slay everyone with another legendary performance and Kelly should perform to promote her new single

There's usually 9-12 performances. A good lineup for 2011 would be
Adele Beyonce, Jay-Z & Kanye West ("Lift Off" and BTINV/3rd single) Chris Brown Coldplay Lady Gaga Lil' Wayne Mumford & Sons/The Black Keys/Foster The People Katy Perry Red Hot Chili Peppers Britney Spears Tyler, The Creator & Frank Oceans
Lil' Wayne is confirmed. Like Wayne, Red Hot Chili Peppers have an album coming out two days later. Adele and Lady Gaga will be working new singles. Katy Perry is the most nominated artist. Kanye/Jay-Z/Beyonce all have new music and it'd be an epic performance. Chris Brown gave a big VMA performance in 2007. Coldplay hasn't had a major US performance of the new single yet. Tyler The Creator could be slightly controversial. M&S/TBK/FTP fill an indie-rock spot and have all had big years (I think PUK will crossover, M&S has 2011's 3rd biggest album). Britney has a...history...with the VMAs.

does voting determine the winners? Or is there a panel that decides? Or both?

I dont think Katy perry is a ratings draw. I highly doubt people would tune in just to watch Katy Perry win.....i know she had a great year this year but for some reason it seems people dont really care about the persona of katy perry. Maybe im alone on this i think a lot of people like Katy Perry's personality. I admit she's not that great of a live vocalist (i'll be the judge of that tomorrow night ) but to make an assumption that NOBODY cares is untrue. She's not offputting like other artists. Part of her appeal is that she's relatable, and she has a great sense of humor.

She is getting better in her tour but i don't see an epic performance in her this year. She won't steal the show (good or bad) and it just seems like this year will be kinda eh.

That's fair. I'd put Nicki Minaj in then. I'd love for a "Monster" verse during the (dream) Kanye/Jay-Z performance.
