I don't have problems with fan voting as well, but there comes to a point when it's almost predictable who's gonna win. But at the same time, when VMA's was not fan voted, some really good videos failed to win *Looks @ Toxic* it's a shame she didnt go, had she attended to the awards, I bet Toxic would have swept.

The "Firework" video is ridiculous. Don't even get me started on the scene where the boy stops muggers by performing magic tricks, WTF? E.T. is by far the better video. LMAO. ia. But I still don't think either of those Katy videos deserve this many nominations.

Yeah. Perhaps Toxic would've won Female Video (it deserved it) but Hey Ya! rightfully won Video Of The Year.

Three big artists are ready to get the party started at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Adele, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown have all been announced as performers at the show, airing live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles next month. This will mark the first time that Adele has graced the VMAs stage. The British chanteuse is up for seven nods for her emotional "Rolling in the Deep" video, including Best Female Artist, Best Pop Video, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Editing and the night's big prize, Video of the Year. Brown will return to the stage, after making his unforgettable VMA debut back in 2007. His eye-popping video for "Look at Me Now," which features Wayne and Busta Rhymes, is up for multiple Moonmen at the big show, including Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Collaboration. "I am excited about my nominations and to be back on the VMA stage," Brown said in a statement. "I have a special performance planned for my wonderful fans." Wayne himself is also slated to take the stage. He's got some big nominations up for grabs at the show including best Hip-Hop Video for his "6'7" clip. "Being a nominee and performer on the VMAs once again is an honor because everyone doesn't get that opportunity," Wayne said in a statement. The event coincides with the August 29 release of his upcoming album. "Looking forward to performing on the show, and having Tha Carter IV drop the same week!" The night is shaping up to be quite the gathering, with stars like Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Pitbull up for Moonmen at the show. Perry leads the pack with an unprecedented four videos earning a total of nine nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Female Video and Best Pop Video. You can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist, by visiting VMA.MTV.com or m.mtv.com on your mobile phone. In addition, you can get in on Best New Artist text voting by texting BNA to 66333 on your wireless phone. (Verizon subscribers can vote on all categories via SMS by texting VMA to 66333; standard message rates apply.) Voting for Best New Artist continues through the show. www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2011/

Off to a good start. Throw in Jay-Z/Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Red Hot Chili Peppers and we have a very good show.
My guess is Adele gives the performance of the night.

I want Adele to perform RITD in a chair. Then stand up to perform SLY. (Which is hilarious since one would usually sit for a ballad and stand for a midtempo song.)

Good to see Rihanna snubbed...sick of seeing her ass hanging out in every performance, not to mention listening to that god-awful autotuned "voice." Hoping to see a Beyonce performance.

I don't believe anyone that says Only Girl, What's My Name, S&M, and Man Down are ALL not at least on par with the nominations. The songs have been big hits, the videos are highly viewed on youtube, and have generated noteable amounts of attention. She had hit all the marks necessary to "deserve" nominations.

They might give her the dance video because its beyonce and Run the world (while a flop song) the dance is pretty dope. rihanna needs to stop doing stuff for MTV if they are not going to show her love. Only girl in the world and S&M are fire.

"Only Girl (In The World)" is a cute video. I liked the color scheme very much. The "What's My Name" video was blah, and the "S&M" video is very wishy-washy.

I have to agree with the assessment on Rihanna's vids. "OG" was nothing special, more of a beauty commercial than anything else. "WMN" was awful and "S&M" was cheesy. "Man Down" was the only one deserving IMO.

Acts have won awards when they didn't attend- so I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Does anyone know the years that fans have voted winners of the non-technical categories and what years they determined the non-technical nominees? All of those years have been hot messes, pretty much, but especially 2007, when MTV changed the category names.

WMN and S&M are eh, CKB is boring, but Man Down and Only Girl should have been nominated.

So yes, I am glad MTV didn't invite her. If Beyonce shows up, she WILL win...now whether she has time for this, we don't know. Run the World (Girls) is better than any video Rihanna has produced this year, combined...that is just stating the truth.

Ch...why is this Tay stan talking like anyone doesn't already know who the better performer is. Sis boo, the tea was clocked on that long ago. That said, a Swift stan trying coming for anyone's vocals or messy performances is just... Thus, I can see why MTV snubbed her azz too.

Also just noticed that the two-videos-per-act rule for submissions no longer applies, as four of Perry's videos received nominations. When did that rule change? And, RiRi did get two nominations via "Love the Way You Lie" and "All of the Lights"- well, she can't take credit for the two Male Video nominations. In terms of career nominations- if I'm counting correctly- these are the females with the most nods: 1. Madonna: 68 (plus the Video Vanguard) 2. Beyonce: 37 (including "Telephone" and NOT counting Destiny's Child nominations, of which there are 10) 3. Janet Jackson: 35 (plus the Video Vanguard- "Scream" accounts for 10 of her nods) 4. Missy Elliott: 33 5. Lady Gaga: 30 (including "Video Phone") Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera follow with 28 and 23, respectively. Among solo men (counting all collaborations/featurings): 1. Eminem: 46 2. Kanye West: 31 3. Michael Jackson: 29 (plus Video Vanguard; his nominations started with the "Thriller" video; videos like "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" were released prior to the start of the VMAs)
