Lol. Do people outside of radio followers really notice? I neve heard anyone going "Omg. That new GaGa song was JUST released and is already being played on radio every hour." Radio stations are pretty much always playing something once an hour. I doubt people outside of radio followers really notice the difference between a 5 week old song being played every hour and a 1 day old song being played every hour. So, who really cares? Studies have shown the average CHR/Pop listener listens for only about 30 (?) mins at one time.

What are you talking about Swallow? My friends and I discuss spin gains and possibilities of payola allll the time ;)
Anyway, I know everyone is screaming payola and I am one of "those" that honestly believes payola still exists. In fact, I think evidence clearly shows it exists. However, I also think it is pointless to try to assume we know exactly which songs get the biggest payola payouts or something. We don't know and technically every hit song probably got a little help along the way. That being said, maybe Gaga cut a check, but honestly in this case I think radio stations would pretty much have done the same thing anyway making it a waste of the payola money. Gaga is hands down the biggest pop breakout in the past few years in terms of album sales, digital sales, tour, and I would even argue excitement. GAga is exciting to most people in the music industry in terms of her cultural value and success. I know people fight against that and claim that "delusional Gaga fans overstate her value" and I am not even saying I think she has done something so different that she deserves all the attention she gets. But, just looking at facts she is a huge pop name right now and probably one of the closest things we have gotten to a pop phenom since the day of Britney, Christina, and the boybands. Her releasing a single is an event right now. Will it always be that way? No. It never lasts, ever. I think she needs at least one iconic hit this era in order to secure it a bit longer as well. BTW was a big hit, but not on Bad Romance level or Poker Face level. She needs another one of those to maintain the momentum a bit longer. I am hoping Judas does it-I am sure some here are praying it doesn't!

She needs another one of those to maintain the momentum a bit longer. I feel the same way, and I am 99% sure she will have one (even if it isn't Judas). "Marry the Night" was considered for the first single, so it has potential. There was another song that someone else reviewed that they said deserved to be the hit of the era. I'm expecting this album to be as good as her last two (and I like "The Fame Monster" much more than "The Fame"). It's definitely going to be fun... as you said, nobody has brought this much excitement to pop since Britney and the boybands (and Gaga is a different creature).

"Edge of Glory" - This one sounds crazy in print -- it's a massive power ballad with heavy club beats that features Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band wailing on his saxophone -- but somehow it all seems totally natural when you actually hear it. There's an element of cheesiness to it, but it's totally captivating and incredibly catchy. If any of these new Gaga tunes demands to be a big fat hit, this is it. The inclusion of Clemons is an inspired touch that amplifies the song's Eighties stadium rock vibe, but his actual performance is amazing and ranks among the best of his career.

I'm glad that she let a good amount of people hear some of the tracks. They didn't all agree that one song was going to be the main hit. I think it speaks volumes for the album.

Love the Popjustice Review!
"In the most Biblical sense, I am beyond repentance. 'Fame hooker', 'prostitute wench', 'vomits her mind'... But in the cultural sense I just speak in future tense. Judas kiss me if offenced, or wear an ear condom next time."

I'm still firm in my belief that Judas doesn't sound catchy in the way I thought Born This Way was not, and it was not. Some of the words are just ....... But if it does turn out to be Bad Romance as it was to Poker Face, and I'll eat my words

Yeah, they haven't been confirmed yet so we can't be sure. I did notice that the Born This Way chorus was a bit weak when she sang it on the VMAs.

With some of the lyrics such as "ear condom" that were mentioned in that review, I don't know how this will turn out. It'll probably be better or as good as Bad Romance in some ways such as the beats, but I don't know how the lyrics will end up. They'll probably have a lot of meaning behind them, which is good, but could easily be taken a bit too far. Still, BTW smashed with its edgy lyrics, so I shouldn't doubt something else.

Apparently the video is supposed to be EXTREMELY religious.. Gaga is reading from the bible and "retelling the stories" . -from her choreographer. I don't want her moving too far into that realm

I'm really excited to hear the song. Only 11 more days! Apparently the video is supposed to be EXTREMELY religious.. Gaga is reading from the bible and "retelling the stories" . -from her choreographer. I don't want her moving too far into that realm If it's done as distastefully as 'Alejandro' was then consider me finished with her. She needs to have respect for people who don't share the same beliefs and are different than her, something she seems to know all so well. Honestly, it's a bit hypocritical.

She needs to tread carefully with this religious stuff. Could be the start of a big backlash for her.

If people should be allowed to freely express their religious beliefs then she shouldn't have a problem with the Catholic Church's stance of gay marriage, right? It's not like I don't support gay marriage or gay rights, but I do feel like it's a bit hypocritical of her. Sorry. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it. It's a discussion forum and if she's going to do things like this then I'm going to have a say in it. As a fan of her music and a Catholic, I don't necessarily feel welcome buying one of her CDs or going to her tour.

First of all, people in the Catholic church (and others) do freely express their beliefs about gay marriage and I don't have a problem with it because I don't have a problem with free expression (except maybe in the case of Westboro Baptist Church). I really don't understand how this makes her hypocritical. A lot of religious people not only advocate against gay rights, but are extremely bigoted. I don't know how her retelling of a Bible story can compare in any way. People might think its disrespectful to their faith, but so what?? It's not like they're having their rights taken away or being persecuted for being born a certain way. Also, you realize she is a Catholic right?

It's not like they're having their rights taken away or being persecuted for being born a certain way. I didn't say that it was disrespectful. I said that I thought 'Alejandro' was distasteful and that I hope 'Judas' wasn't done in said manner. I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with the Catholic Church. I actually disagree with them on most things, actually. I would actually say that I am more spiritual than I am religious. But do I think swallowing rosary beads and wearing a latex pope costume is distasteful? Yes, and I really hope she doesn't try doing that again. Yes, I do realize she's Catholic. It doesn't matter. She clearly has a different set of beliefs than most Catholics do, as do I. I agree with most of her beliefs. I just don't like the way she goes about them. Katy Perry shares similar beliefs and she definitely goes about them a different way, as do I.

I'm fine with Gaga being open about what she disagrees with. I guess it's just another side of the same coin, though; not like we don't see the same religious folks doing the same to her (not that this justifies anything, just saying.) As long as there's a mutual respect, it's fine, but then I don't always feel she's so respectful either.
'Judas' seems to be in a different vein then 'Alejandro' though. One is a religious view while the other was just a distasteful mess. If she could get away with latter though, I don't see how 'Judas' will hurt her too bad.
