Well imo, when S&M goes number 1 Britney will get credit. And then the TTWE remix (which im assuming will be Rihanna because i'm sure the labels did this for both artists to get quick number 1s) will credit Rihanna. i thought it was Nicki Manaj who is the feature on TTWE.

But i mean i don't see IDJ giving Britney a quick number 1 other wise. Because TTWE will definitely have a top 3 peak. The second video is coming out soon. And then with the remix. And airplay is increasing.

^But, does Ke$ha get partial credit for the weeks 'Right Round" featured her name? :) That's not a very good example. "Right Round" didn't involve two versions of the same song being promoted. "Right Round" was just a case of Billboard and/or the label trying to determine how one version of one song was to be credited. Other than those two weeks, Ke$ha received no credit, so, ultimately, it's clear that she's not credited for the run of "Right Round" A closer example of one song that changed credits midway through its chart run would be "Coming Up" by Paul McCartney. That song made it all the way to number one with the artist credited as Paul McCartney. After spending multiple weeks at #1, the song descended to #2. The week it dropped out of the top spot, the song title switched its listing to "Coming Up (Live at Glasgow)" and the artist credit changed to Paul McCartney & Wings. This is because the b-side of the solo studio version of "Coming Up" was the live version, and Billboard determined that that version had overtaken the studio one in airplay. (It had probably done so before the chart flipped the credit.) That's the way the credit stayed for the remainder of the chart run. Now, these were two completely different recordings of the same song, released as two singles of the same single. In most cases, when the b-side of a single overtook its a-side in terms of popularity, Billboard separates that into a separate chart run; however, because "Coming Up" is essentially the same song, Billboard credits it all in one chart run, and because the Wings version was a significant part of the success, it's recognized as a Wings number-one hit, even though they were only credited for the weeks after it fell from the top spot. The one hitch in using that as a template for this situation is that, at that time, airplay was the only determining factor because, whether people were spurred to buy the single because of the solo studio version or the live band version, they bought the same single. In this case, Billboard can consider airplay, sales, and streaming separately for the two different versions of the same song. Ultimately, I see them doing one of two things: 1) Crediting the song to the version that would have had the higher chart position each week if the two versions were being tracked as separate songs -or- 2) The more likely scenario is that, given both versions are quite popular, Billboard will defer to the label's wishes as to which is credited as the plug side.

I'm still confused.. will both "S&M" singles be charting? I mean the original version is getting the airplay, while the "remix" is dominating in sales. However if everyone is basing "credit" on whichever single gets more airplay (which is the original version), then wouldn't this count out both singles being consolidated? Not only that, S&M wouldn't get the #1 position because the airplay doesn't correlate with the version that is actually selling the most?
Gah I'm confused!

This is one of the more confusing chart instances in recent years. It is safe to say, regardless of whether it will chart as Rihanna or Rihanna featuring Britney Spears, the chart points for both the remix and the original will be combined and chart as one song. What we don't know is whether Britney Spears will get a #1 hit out of this deal. We won't know the answer for sure until Wednesday/Thursday.

It's so difficult to accurately assess whether Britney will get credit this week without any similar example that Billboard had to make a decision about. Without Britney, the song's chances at a number one is virtually zero, but nearly all the sales and airplay are from the solo version as of now. My opinion is if the song reaches number one, Britney is credited simply because without the remix the song's ascent to number one would have been nearly impossible. However, if it stalls at number two, the song should remain credited solely to Rihanna because an overwhelming majority of the aggregate sales and airplay point hitherto have been from the original. I just want it to get to number one this week and leave the credit drama to the BB statisticians.

I remember them changing/clarifying the rule around the time that J.Lo's "I'm Real" hit #1. If I remember correctly, it was credited to just J.Lo until the week it went to #1 in which the credit was changed to the remix featuring Ja Rule. So in the case of S&M, I imagine most of the airplay will still go to the original version (maybe ~120 chart points + whatever the original is selling) and then the remix will probably get a comparable amount of chart points through sales alone. So we will see.

This is one of the most highly anticipated weeks for #1 in recent memories. ??? Not everyone lives in their little diva world The only exciting thing here is whether (or when) Britney will get the credit or will she?

Billboard has changed the credits many times. One of the famous examples is I'm a Flirt which was a hit for both Bow Wow and R. Kelly. The remix version featured T.I. and T-Pain and that one eventually reached No. 12 on Hot 100.
The song appeared on both The Price of Fame and Double Up. The remix was a single from the latter.
Santana and Kid Rock have history with different versions for sales and airplay. For example the single version of Picture by Kid Rock featured Allison Moorer but radio played the version with Sheryl Crow. The eventual credit was Kid Rock featuring Sheryl Crow or Allison Moorer.
Also this time, it'll be which version gets most of the songs points as the versions are pretty similar. It would then be S&M by Rihanna featuring Britney Spears.
Remixes have existed years and years and years. I don't get why this one would be any different.

BB didn't know whether to chart the original and remix as two different songs that time. Hopefully BB will clarify or make a statement about situations like this

Oh, the tracks will definitely be combined, as the only difference in the "remix" is the addition of Spears' vocals- the music and melody have not changed.
Lopez's tracks indeed were like different tacks entirely from the original album version. People just toss the word "remix" around so much, when in a lot of cases, some "remixes" aren't really that at all in the way we think of them, but "alternate versions." Anal with the word here, that is true. :)

t looks like we've got an old-fashioned diva battle for No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart next week.
Lady Gaga's "Judas," which leaked to the Web this morning (April 15), was rush-released to the iTunes Store and could possibly debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 next week.
Lady Gaga 'Judas' Single Leaks: Listen
Up until this morning, it seemed like Rihanna was on course for her 10th No. 1 with "S&M," powered by strong sales and airplay of the track's "Rih-mix" featuring Britney Spears. Industry prognosticators are forecasting the song may sell nearly 300,000 downloads by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, April 17, up from the 141,000 the track scanned in its last pre-remix week.
Rihanna was seemingly poised to topple Katy Perry's "E.T" (featuring Kanye West), which has spent the past three weeks in the pole position on the tally. Perry's track will likely move between 260,000 and 270,000 downloads.
Katy Perry Takes Third Week Atop Hot 100 with Airplay Boost
But now, Gaga has found herself in the fight for No. 1. While "Judas" was originally slated to debut worldwide next week, this morning's leak prompted Interscope Records, Gaga's label, to rush release the single to digital services.
Billboard projects that "Judas" would have to sell north of 350,000 -- close to 400,000 -- with less than two and-a-half days of sales in the week, in order to possibly debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Also playing a role in its initial Hot 100 ranking will be the radio audience impressions "Judas" will garner through the end of the airplay tracking period which runs through Tuesday (April 19). A fast first week start at radio, similar to "Born This Way" (78.6 million), would certainly help Gaga's No. 1 cause.
Lady Gaga: The 'Born This Way' Billboard Cover Story
It's certainly possible that "Judas" could sell that much, based on the how well Gaga's last release, "Born This Way," sold in its first three days of release (after a Friday, Feb. 11 iTunes debut). It bowed with 447,000, enabling its No. 1 debut on the Hot 100, marking her third chart-topper and the 1,000th No. 1 in the chart's history. However, "Judas" is hobbled, to a degree, in that it was posted to iTunes later in the day than "Born This Way" was. The latter hit the retailer in the early morning, while "Judas" hit the store by late morning Pacific Standard Time.

How would this do 400k? BTW did that in three days based on huge hype and a planned release. This is unexpected.
I bet 200k.

IDJ needs to counter attack and seriously slash the remix version of S&M to 99 cents by midnight just in case. Interscope is clearly trying to pull a fast one.

There is not as much hype for Judas and releasing it monday as planned would've assured it a #1 debut.

I think there is close to zero chance that Gaga will hit #1 this week. Next week is much more likely.
Rihanna's remix has held on stronger than I thought, so I'm gonna guess:
55% chance Rihanna takes it 40% chance Katy takes it 5% chance Gaga takes it
