As a GaGa fan, I admit I'm really disappointed that this wasn't approved. I feel like it makes her look bad on a number of levels and, had it been approved, it likely wouldn't have gotten as much attention as it likely will now because it wasn't approved. Not to mention the promise of donating profits to the human rights campaign. Plus, I feel like it will make her look like she lacks a sense of humour and takes herself too seriously. I figured part of the purpose of her album cover would be that she doesn't take herself so seriously afterall.

She's too busy parodying herself to allow someone else to do it for her.

This probably annoys me more than anything else she has done lately. Seriously, it is Weird Al-let the man do his job. Just because I was curious, I looked up other people who rejected him and a ton of credible, big name artists have turned him down. I was surprised. Coolio didn't even want Amish Paradise released and that is a parody classic!

I was going to say-- so many artists have turned him down over the years. Cue the Gaga is crazy and takes herself too seriously comments.

Even if you don't find his pardoies funny, or if he had been turnt down many times before, all the sales were going to be donated for a humans right charity. I would've thought Gaga would have loved that. Oh well.

Gaga puts more effort into human rights (particular gay rights) than a lot of artists. If she wants money donated to human rights, she'll donate it herself.

Now she is claiming that she never heard anything about the parody and that one of her managers must have turned it down. I sort of believe it-I feel like she is being more and more surrounded by managers and her "team" and they probably do make some moves without bringing it to her. I would find out who did it and fire him/her though! COme on, Weird AL!

Very curious as to the reasoning...none of his parodies have ever hurt the legacy of the original song.

Even if she did turn him down, so what? Her music, her decision. I wouldn't want anyone parodying my work.

Well, I read somewhere earlier that it was her team and not her specifically that turned him down. Even still, surely she would have heard about it. But if she didn't, hopefully some sort of conclusion comes out of it. (Imagine if she did a duet with him ) But, I dunno, it's the artists' decision to okay a parody but I feel like it hurts more than helps if one gets rejected.

Maybe it's because she hasn't even gotten to capitalize off of her own songs yet. He should simply try again in 6 months.

Well it majorly sucks. Maybe that was why her team didn't want it released. But the video could be funny I suppose.

Hell, the parody is catchier than the original. I even beg to differ that its better than the original. I liked it a lot.

Gaga is crazy and takes herself too seriously. omg you read my mind. on a more serious not it really doesn't matter if it was or wasn't approved. An artist has a right to their work and honestly I think it would be completely justifiable for her to have said no given the message behind 'Born This Way.' I mean that doesn't really need a parody. Either way it's approved now so w/e.

Am I the only person who thinks he comes across so much worse than she does? He seems to feel like he's so entitled to use other people's music. Maybe she just doesn't think his irrelevant unfunny ass doesn't automatically get a right to capitalize off her music while making fun of her. Plus the whole thing of writing some long letter is so attention-seeking and self-pitying. Oh I'm such a good person because I always ask for people's permission before releasing parodies, but then when I don't get permission I whine about it and release them anyway? Give me a break.

I've tried to figure out how I felt about this situation. And I realized how completely irrelevant this issue really is. lol

Guess what? The parody has now received FAR more attention because of the alleged controversy. Score one for GaGa AND Weird Al. I hope it's all for the controversy and not that Ga actually denied it. Prince looked like such a d-back when he refused Purple Rain, etc. You know what, when you enter parody land, it's a compliment and for more than 30 years Weird Al has been pretty darned consistent in producing some pretty good material. He makes it seem so easy. It's not like there is a SINGLE stretch in Perform this Way. (On top of it, he does not disparage her in anyway.)

It is what it is. They were willing, but wanted him to record it first. She is obviously very busy right now, and might have put it off and he was not happy about it. He didn't want to wait any longer, and here we are with another anti-Gaga sentiment. Look, I don't have any great emotional investment in this whole controversy, which turns out to be a silly tempest in a teapot now that she's given him permission, but I know a non-answer when I see one. I asked you whether you were accusing him of misrepresenting the facts when he said he'd received a "no" answer after sending them the recorded song. Your response was ... to yet again imply that ("He didn't want to wait any longer") without actually saying it yes or no. That does not give confidence in your credibility, even by the standards of assertions of fact by anonymous people on internet message boards. I...don't care. The fact that I posted Soudscan totals at 1 a.m. last night should speak for my "credibility." I've always wanted Pulsedentials.

It's funny now that people are suddenly saying "what a predictable response after the uproar on the Internet. Of course gaga heard the song but she changed her mind and made up a story about not hearing it." blah blah blah.
I think it's hilarious how some people choose to believe the best in singers they like and the worst in singers they don't like, even if it's the opposite of what's been reported. Justifying things by saying "well, I bet that's not what happened at all and people are out to make so-and-so look bad" or "of course they'd say that. This is predictable PR to save face."
I bet if it was Tori Amos in this position, the comments would be completely different from specific non-pulse people.

No... only artists who have something important to say with their songs. like Coolio (Gangsta's Paradise) or Gaga (Born This Way)
