Then again, she always gets introduced as the World's Best Selling Female Artist, so I guess that confuses a lot of people Isn't that Barbra Streisand?

I think the closest guess is Madonna. Barbra is highest in the US, followed by Madonna and Mariah who are neck and neck. Madonna has had the most international success by far, so I think it's safe to say Mariah isn't in the running.

Yes- Madonna's worldwide albums total is 200 million+, which is a good 40m-50m more than other contemporaries. The "records" total would extend that, too, as her worldwide singles sales rate notably higher, as well.
RE Mimi in Asia- her commercial success there dropped off significantly from the Sony days. Whether that has anything to do with Sony being a Japanese company and marketing her more aggressively there, who knows.

Japanese people who frequent music blogs/site were surprised to actually find Mariah in the top 50 when most of them though MJ would be the international act to rake in most sales. One can only speculate, but Mariah was big in Japan though without a doubt

Her music after leaving sony has changed Im in africa and mariah was HUGE here. Imo JJ is the one who was huge in the US but not worldwide

Butterfly marked the slight shift in Mimi's music (adding more of a pop/hip-hop tone, while keeping the ballads)- that has continued since. Even Emancipation did not fare nearly as well as her top sellers in Japan.
In the UK, Mimi has done well- she's scored a nice amount of top 10 singles, and has had decent commercial success for the albums (overall).

This should be handy next time someone claims Pink mostly sells records in Australia.

34 . Mariah Carey -- Music Box :: 1,505,000 She was never THAT big outside the US. IMO, her WW sales were very much inflated Your opinion is not accurate. Certifications speak clearly. ;)

Certifications speak clearly. ;) Obviously you didn't comprehend what I wrote. I put an emphasis on THAT, clearly saying that her success in the US is disproportionate to her standing worldwide on my other post. Geez, defensive. I wasn't trying to undermine her success at all. Just saying as how I see it Well, if it makes you feel better, in line with the topic at hand Best selling albums in Japan by international artists 1 1998 #1's Mariah Carey 2.80 million+ 2 1995 Seishun no Kagayaki: The Best of (22 Hits of the Carpenters) The Carpenters 2.32 million+ 3 1995 Daydream Mariah Carey 2.20 million+ 4 1994 Merry Christmas Mariah Carey 2.09 million+ 5 2000 1 The Beatles 1.96 million+ 6 1992 The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album Whitney Houston/Various artists 1.88 million+ 7 1982 Thriller Michael Jackson 1.69 million+ 8 1993 Music Box Mariah Carey 1.58 million+ 9 1995 Scatman's World Scatman John 1.56 million+ 10 1997 Titanic Soundtrack 1.41 million+

Mariah is not the biggest selling female worldwide although reportedly that's how she insists on being introduced these days.

Isn't that Barbra Streisand? Madonna #1 Celine Dion #2 Mariah Carey #3 I always wonder where Celine fit into these who 'best-selling female artist' discussions, considering her large album sales WW.

Are you crazy? Mariah is one of the biggest female artists worldwide, I guess Madonna is the only one that's bigger than her. She sure is bigger than Janet and Whitney. And in Uk she's among top 5 most successful female artists ever. So just because she has 1 album on tis list It doesn't mean she's not big. She is also the frst female artist in UK to debut at #1 on singles chart and she held record for the biggest debut for a female artist on albumschart. Nowdays, I feel it's easier for female to sell more albums in UK. Take a look at adele, rihanna, beyonce, there are a lot of albums from past years. No one's saying she's not big worldwide. We we're saying she's not THAT big as compared to her success in the states. As one poster said, Mariah is primarily bigger in the LA and Asian market. I believe she's the only international artist to be in the top 50 best selling artist in Japan's ORICON chart. Assuming she has sold 180MM+ worldwide, it is a fact that she is bigger internationally compared to her success in the US. Now you might have an argument if you wanted to focus on a specific region or continent, but it still doesn't dilute the fact that she has sold more OUS.

Mimi's worldwide album sales is not bear 180m; it's in the vicinity of 150m. Throw in singles, her *records* total would top 180m.
Come on Over was a worldwide phenomenon., no doubt.

For one, Mimi Daily has estimates at 144 million and change (and it has very reasonable estimates for albums, not overblown ones that some like to throw out). Even adjusting for some millions, the total still would not be near 180m.

Madonna #1 Celine Dion #2 Mariah Carey #3 I'm pretty sure Mariah is above Celine... Mariah is not the biggest selling female worldwide although reportedly that's how she insists on being introduced these days. Yes, because that is 100% Mariah's doing, and not her management or anything.

Celine has most certainly outsold Mariah overseas. No question.
I'd even argue that she's a bigger global seller than Madonna.
