It's not. The Fame contained 6 top 10 singles, constant buzz and huge promotion and it took all of that to reach the 4 million mark. Selling half of that total, or maybe more, is not so shocking. Did both The Fame/Monster (combo) and The Fame Monster sell 4 million? It's so confusing how both of those were sold separately and together because it's hard to judge different scenarios and such. The Fame (original album) and The Fame Monster (the package including both albums) sold a combined 4.2 million to date. The Fame Monster standalone EP sold another 1.5 million on top of that

We don't know the actual totals since some of those are included in with The Fame. However, The Fame DID sell 4 million. GaGa just keeps getting those asterisks. ;)

Eh? The standalone EP charted on it's own, it isn't included with The Fame totals. These sales where from a while ago, don't think too much changed

You can buy The Fame (Deluxe Edition) which includes The Fame AND The Fame Monster. Those sales went towards The Fame. So some purchases of TFM were credited towards TF.

If you want to count the sales of The Fame Monster from The Fame then it would lower The Fame's overall total. What you are saying is not making sense... People did not suddenly start buying The Fame more, it was helped by the package of The Fame Monster included.

I think you are misunderstanding him.

Ya but Life in Technicolor was talking about the single disc EP though, not the 2CD deluxe No one knows how much the 2CD deluxe sold, you're right So no one knows how much TFM sold in total, but we do know the single disc EP sold 1.5 million edit: Oh I see shanz88 cleared it up, but when someone says TFM EP sold 1,5m I'm sure they're not implying TFM sold that in total, just the EP

That album's overall sales could most likely be lower then if anyone is considering the sales of TFM with The Fame combined. In reality, The Fame was a re-release with a seperate EP sold. Whatever the EP sold on its own is the representative of its sales. Consumers had a choice to buy it or The Fame with it. I don't understand this talk.

I really don't think he was talking about chart certifications or asking for official Soundscan numbers to be changed at all, nothing like that. He was just making a statement that he doesn't like when people throw around the fact that The Fame sold 4 million and then discrediting her success with TFM by saying it "only sold 1.5 million" based on the official numbers. I've seen people try to say that before, and the argument just doesn't really hold up. Total number of The Fame albums out there = Original release sales + Deluxe re-release sales Total number of TFM albums out there = Deluxe re-release sales + Single EP sales That's all he is saying, really. It's really not that deep.

Nevertheless, you are not understanding my logic behind this, no matter if the sales from The Fame with TFM were counted toward TFM only, her current sales for both albums would be the same total overall.

Both albums were packaged as one and are thus counted as one "sale" which went to The Fame, I believe because that material accounted for the majority of the total material on there. I was using the term "album" differently from the term "sale", as you have this unknown (at least to us) quantity of TF+TFM Deluxe editions that were sold that contain both albums in one set. I feel like this just isn't something that has really come up before until Gaga did it, which is why it is such a gray area that people like to discuss a lot.

The standalone EP sold nearly 1.5 million on top of that.

How about this to make everyone happy, both The Fame/Fame Monster album and re-release package along with the separate The Fame Monster EP sold a combined total of around 5.6 million. :)

So basically you are saying, the representative of what was sold (not speaking of sales in particular) of The Fame and TFM seperately is not shown? However, I see it as the label dong this intentionally to drive the sales for The Fame more. Attaching an EP to a current album will benefit the album and the label saw it as a good plan.

Is there any other way TO see it? You add the total from The Fame (original = deluxe) and The Fame Monster, and that's what ya get. :) people who did not buy The Fame on its own may have been inclined to get The Fame deluxe edition, with the eight additional recordings (I did that a couple of weeks ago). We can't guesstimate how many consumers purchased the deluxe edition just for the eight new recordings.

I guess put most simply, there are more copies of TFM out there than it may appear on the surface, due to it being included in the deluxe edition set. I think someone with no previous knowledge on this situation could look at The Fame's sales of 4 million and TFM's sales of 1.5 million and think that she did not see as much success that era, that is if they don't investigate a little further and find out that some of The Fame's total includes the special deluxe re-release with both albums. It's really irrelevant to all of us here because we have always been aware of this fact, I guess

How many copies of The Fame sold up until the re-release? We could just come up with a number based off of that and guesstimate how many of each of The Fame, The Fame/Monster and The Fame Monster EP were sold to come up with the 5.6 million total.

^ huh?
1.660m is the total of The Fame before the EP and the deluxe edition were released. At that point the album was selling around 30k a week, so I assume that additionally 300k units (at least) had been shipped to stores. I'd say that 2.5-3m of the total sales of the album (4.2m as of 6/11/11) should be attibuted to the original album...

Ouch!- that's a very steep second week drop off for Gaga. She needs the Edge of Glory to do well if she wants her album sales to stabilize. By the looks of it, it very well could work because it's doing well on radio so far. She'll need another hit or two after that to get to 3x platinum though, imo.

What a drop for GaGa. None of her new singles are ripping up the charts. Looks like all of the promotion inflated her sales for week 1 quite a bit.
