Diva Headed for #1 Debut, Big Sean, Selena Gomez NextJune 29, 2011
Fresh off her triumph on closing night at Glastonbury, Columbia diva Beyonce’s 4 will debut at #1 next week on the HITS album chart with between 275-300k in first-week sales. Her previous album, ‘08’s multiple Grammy winning I Am… Sasha Fierce, debuted with 463k, but that was during the Q4 sales rush in November.
Those figures are based on one-day sales from those music retailers around the country not augmenting their income by selling illegal fireworks out of the back door.
SoCal rapper Big Sean’s Finally Famous: The Album, his feature-length debut after a series of critically acclaimed “Finally Famous” mixtapes, is the first release under Kanye West’s new deal for his G.O.O.D. Music label, through Island Def Jam Music Group, and should do in the 90-95 range.
Hollywood’s Selena Gomez & the Scene return with a third album, When the Sun Goes Down, which will debut with an estimated 75-80k in sales.
Seventh season American Idol winner David Cook’s second 19/RCA/RMG album is looking at estimated sales in the 35-40k range, a far cry from the 280k debut for his first album.
Warner Bros. Long Island emo band Taking Back Sunday’s fifth, self-titled album and second for WMG, is slated for 28-32k
That’s the same amount as this year’s American Idol winner Scotty McCreery’s five-track Walmart exclusive, which includes his debut single, “I Love You This Big.” The EP will sell for $5 at stores and walmart.com. The other Idol finalists, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and James Durbin, have also released five-track discs for the retailer.
Warner Bros. hip-hopper Curren$y, the former New Orleans rapper once signed to Master P’s No Limit label as part of the 504 Boyz, recently inked a deal with the Bunny for his Jet Life Recordings imprint. The latest release, Weekend at Burnie’s, his sixth studio album overall, is on target for 23-27k.
Interscope’s veteran rap-rockers Limp Bizkit return with Gold Cobra, Fred Durst and company’s first new studio album since 2005’s The Unquestionable Truth, Part 1, and first proper full-length since 2003’s Results May Vary, looking at a 23-27k debut.
Fantasy/Concord Music Group’s Rave On Buddy Holly, a tribute album featuring a star-studded cast that includes Paul McCartney, the Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, Patti Smith, My Morning Jacket, Kid Rock, Lou Reed and Cee Lo Green, is on target for 20-23k.
Universal Latino Puerto Rican Latin Grammy winner Luis Fonsi’s Tierra Firme, not based on the Guy Hand private equity company, is eyeing a debut of 14-17k.
The market was down 6% vs. last week, down 2% vs. same week last year and now flat year to date. And we all know what flat is… Everybody, “It's the new up!”

Poor David! But a flop single and the long wait from album to album, it's not that surprising.

A little higher than expected (250k, a little less than Brit), but I do expect a significant drop off the next week.

Selena will have her largest opening yet! Keep in mind she has consistency beyond many veteran's despite the lack of singles her label allows to be produced.
She will most certainly sell more in the long run than Big Sean.

I think this one will plummet like B'Day and BTW the next week especially with no major radio play. She does have a few major promo appearances coming up that may cushion the blow somewhat.

The predictions coulda been higher if 'BTINH' picked up a little quicker, but this prediction is decent.

Pretty impressive/good numbers for having no hits.

This is what I expected.
LOL at anyone thinking she'd debut like Bionic. She could possibly outsell that album in one week.

So her sales will be on par with Britney's...not bad. Not bad at all. I'm sure the haters will foaming at the mouth to call the album a flop, though.

Bey definitely has very solid fanbase! No big hit but even better than Britney's Femme Fatale sales. Femme Fatale may sell less than 4 for first week even with a #1 hit and bigger hype.

Does B have any promo coming up this week? Higher than I expected but I hope it can make it to 300k.
Nice opening for Selena, I was hoping six figures but if this album's sales run is anything like her other two albums it should fly past 500k before year-end.

The numbers for Beyonce are a bit higher than what I predicted. She has a very dedicated fanbase it seems; 275 to 300k with no real hit is very impressive.

She has the MTV/VH1/BET special tomorrow and I think the BTINH video will be released tomorrow as well.

That's kinda great numbers for Beyonce if we considered that she still has no hit this era. However I'm surprised by how low Selena Gomez numbers are. I thought she was a bigger seller than that.

I have to say, her sales are VERY IMPRESSIVE. She literally has not big hit to support this album and she may even pass 300k. And most of non fans predicted her to sell less than 200k just because she has no hit.

I think GMA will help her get closer to 300k, and the 4th show will help cushion next week's drop. - Oh, forgot all about the BTINH video and the MTV/BET special. That will definitely help.
Ugh, I knew David wouldn't do much but I was hoping he could at least scrape 50k.

This is a great debut given the fact that Beyonce has no smashes at radio currently. The album isn't good enough for me to purchase but I did purchase 3 or 4 of the tracks. Adele isn't the only one who can sell without a hit.

Her two albums prior to this have sold under 70k in their first week and cleared 600k each. AYWR was in the Billboard Top 100 chart last week. Longevity is on her side.

She was never gonna do less than 250k first week with all of the promo. Frankly I would have been shocked if she did, but the lack of Irreplaceable type radio smash on the album is what's going to get her in the end like Alicia.

decent sales for Beyonce. Next weeks sales will determine which way this album is going. I doubt she will drop more than 70% though. And I hope the people who predicted +500k are flossing those ridiculous ideas as we speak.
Where's Alicia? Oh boy. I hope she at least hits 30k for the re-release.
