The-Dream confirmed he's working on Jay-Z's new album and that Jay-Z is featured on his own upcoming album.

Jay-Z Signs Deal With Universal MusicVivendi SA's Universal Music Group said Monday it had inked a multiyear deal with rapper Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter to house his music label Roc Nation, snagging the coveted rights to release Mr. Carter's next album along with the forthcoming records of other top-selling artists including Rihanna. Mr. Carter said the deal allowed his five-year-old Roc Nation to "continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of the best major." Universal didn't disclose the financial terms of the deal. The move is a return to Universal for Mr. Carter, 43 years old, who served as president of Universal's Island Def Jam Music Group—in addition to being one of the label's recording artists—from 2004 until late 2007 when his contract to do so expired. Shortly after departing from Universal, Mr. Carter joined forces with concert promoter Live Nation to launch Roc Nation—an entertainment company that includes the Roc Nation music label as well as management, publishing, merchandising and other business ventures. To release Roc Nation records, Mr. Carter struck distribution deals with both Warner Music Group's Atlantic Records and Sony Music Entertainment. As those deals approached expiration, the competition among the industry's big labels over Roc Nation became fierce, according to a person familiar with the matter. The deal with Universal comes a week after the launch of Mr. Carter's new sports agency, Roc Nation Sports—a collaboration with the Creative Artists Agency that has already lured New York Yankees veteran second baseman Robinson Cano. Mr. Cano, who said last week he was parting ways with top baseball agent Scott Boras to join the new venture, could garner a multiyear deal worth more than $200 million when he becomes a free agent next season. Mr. Boras couldn't immediately be reached for comment. Mr. Carter is also a minority owner of the National Basketball Association's Brooklyn Nets. Universal Chief Executive Lucian Grainge said Roc Nation has swiftly become "one of the most successful brands in music with a reputation for developing some of today¹s most influential and popular talent." online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323550604578410471025836756.html

White House Responds to Jay-Z's 'Open Letter' Obama LyricsJay-Z's new song "Open Letter," a response to criticism over his and Beyonce's trip to Cuba, has racked up nearly 500,000 listens in just a few hours. Now we know that some of those plays came from the White House and the reporters that cover it. During a White House press briefing earlier today, Politico reporter Donovan Slack asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney whether President Obama gave Jay-Z and Beyoncé clearance for their travel, based off a lyric from the rapper's just-released song "Open Letter." After reciting the lyric (“I turned Havana into Atlanta... Boy from the hood/ I got White House clearance... Obama said, 'Chill you gonna get me impeached/ You don’t need this shit anyway, chill with me on the beach'"), Slack asked Carney if Obama did indeed give Jay-Z clearance. Carney brushed off the question with sarcasm: "I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury... because Treasury offers and gives licenses for travel, as you know, and the White House has nothing to do with it." "I am absolutely saying that the White house from the President on down had nothing to do with anybody's travel to Cuba that is something that Treasury handles.," he continued. And if Carney didn't make himself clear before, he shut down the conversation by denying White House approval straight forward. "It's a song, Donovan. The President did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip." www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-juice/1557257/white-house-responds-to-jay-zs-open-letter-obama-lyrics

What if Jay and Bey did a joint album together? Crazy In Love x13 I have never understood why they have not done a tour together yet. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw did, and it was highly successful.

Wow. I'm actually excited for this! Hopefully, given the luminaries he is working with, Old Joe Camel can a) stay on the beat (not here for him sputtering and trippin' over them lips like he did all over Watch The Throne) and b) elevate his lyrical game. If the average ghetto youth can't even pronounce, let alone afford, half of the words coming out of his mouth, he will not be doing these producers proud. I want at least Black Album level of excellence from Jay.
