So, for Leona it's:
"Halo" "Impossible" "We Found Love"
Add in to the fact the label (and Leona at times) pick and push for the completely wrong singles and it's no wonder her fans get frustrated and her success is diminishing. Fingers crossed that will change with this album.

Fingers crossed that will change with this album. But there's no way to really know if the Leona recorded versions of those songs would have been as successful or well-received as the ones done by Beyonce, Shontelle, and Rihanna respectively. Nothing is guaranteed.

Well, "Halo" and "Impossible" would have been better than "Happy" for a lead single of the 2nd album and considering they would be coming off the back of the Spirit era, it would have been likely that they would have became hits imo. "We Found Love" is a bit riskier, but I think it could have been a decent-sized hit. Not on the level that Rihanna's version was though.

Just as well Leona x We Found Love never happened. IMO that song is just... no. Cannot stand it, hate it, hate that it was such a big hit.

Leona singing "Impossible" would have been kind of awesome. I could very well hear her singing it.

Leona Lewis never "rejected" Halo.
Ryan Tedder wrote the song specifically for Beyonce. Her team took too long to respond to his submission, so Tedder was passing the song around to have an interest check, and Lewis' team wanted it. Beyonce's team ended up accepting it, so Lewis' team had to hand over the song.

I could definitely imagine Leona singing "Halo".
Forgot if this was mentioned but Don Henley rejected "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You", which was a #2 hit for Heart in 1990.

Heart also had a hit with "What About Love" in 1985. The song had previously been recorded by Toronto but the band decided not to release it as a single, prompting its co-writers to quit the group and offer it to the Wilson sisters.
As far as I'm aware, Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance tried to get a number of female singers (including Annie Lennox, Sinead O'Connor, Kate Bush and several others) to record "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" for the Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves soundtrack, but when they all turned down the offer, Adams opted to record it himself, and the rest is history.

Ricky Martin - She's All I Ever Had
The song was originally recorded by Jon Secada. Hearing the demo, Ricky personally reached out to Jon and asked if he could have the song. Being Ricky was a friend of his, Jon gave the song up.

Beyonce's team ended up accepting it, so Lewis' team had to hand over the song. That's essentially what happened with "We Found Love" too. Calvin Harris wrote and produced the song while touring as an opening act for Rihanna in Australia. Some point after Leona got a hold of the song, she decided to release "Collide" and "Trouble" as singles instead. By that time Rihanna had began working on her annual release again and got around to submissions. Of course Calvin wasn't expecting to actually land Rihanna's first single at that time, and Leona wasn't even committed, so it was a no-brainer.

Joan Osbourne - One Of Us
The song was originally written for the Crash Test Dummies. Joan recorded a demo of the song, and the writer was so impressed, it became hers.

Miranda Lambert cut Lady Antebellum's current single, "Downtown," but it was given to Lady A after they started working on their current album before she started hers. "My Humps" was originally given to the Pussycat Dolls. "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" was originally offered to Celine Dion. "Blank Page" by Christina Aguliera was originally written for Leona Lewis

Dunno if this one has been mentioned yet: Milli Vanilli - Blame It On The Rain The song was rejected by The Jets. I had read that Diane Warren wrote that song with someone like Whitney Houston, Taylor Dayne, or even Exposé in mind to record it, but Clive Davis wanted the song for Milli Vanilli and they ended up recording it (well the guys who sang as them for that album). She did not employ an accent in her name until sometime in the late-1980s.

Both Selena Gomez's "Come And Get It" & Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" were originally intended for Rihanna.

The Way by Ariana Grande was co written by Jordin Sparks and was supposed to be her single in February . however it was not her choice but her labels to give it away.

I wonder if Jordin Sparks recorded Skyscraper and it was meant for her Battlefield album, but it didn't make the cut. She sings the background vocals on it, and I remember after it came out she tweeted Demi saying she did a great job and "Thanks for leaving my background vocals!"

Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop
The song was written for Rihanna, however she chose to do "Pour it Up" instead.
Rihanna - We Found Love
We know Leona Lewis missed out on this one, but the song was also offered to Nicole Scherzinger. She passed on it citing she was "too busy."
Jennifer Lopez - Let's Get Loud
Originally intended for Gloria Estefan (who co-wrote the song), but decided not to use the song and it was passed to JLo becoming a dance hit,

Any clue why the label decided to give it away? Was it b/c they knew her album wasn't going to be ready at a certain time and decided not to sit on the song while waiting? I'm kind of bummed she didn't get to keep it for herself because I really like the song (and b/c I have been waiting for what seems like eternity for new Jordin music), but I think it's cool that she can now say she co-wrote a top 10 hit for another artist. Maybe she could get into writing for others this way.

"Don't You (Forget About Me)," rejected by Billy Idol (who performs a recording on his 2001 greatest hits anyway), the lead singer of the Fixx and ex-Roxy Music vocalist Bryan Ferry.
Simple Minds themselves initially rejected and despite the success of the song, they didn't put it on their subsequent album Once Upon a Time because they weren't terribly proud of doing the song.

Kendrick's "Backseat Freestyle" beat originally went to Ciara for a song called "Hit Boy" on her One Woman Army album (before it was reworked as her self-titled album)
Also Eve was originally supposed to be the featured artist on Christina's Can't Hold Us Down but Kim ended up getting the verse after working with Christina on Lady Marmalade (she was also dating Scott Storch at the time which I'm sure was an added factor.)
Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You" was supposed to be Bridget Kelly's debut single "Thinking About Forever." He leaked his version and it kind of swallowd up any buzz she had for hers. Kind of a dick move but at least we got Thinkin Bout You out of it.
Avril Lavigne had Breakaway for her album but chose to give it to Kelly because she felt like it didn't fit.
Ester Dean's Drop It Low was meant for Ciara, and then Britney expressed interest in recording it but never did.
Fittingly, professional Rihanna understudy Rita Ora's RIP was intended for RiRi.
Taio Cruz said I'm Into You was written for another artist before J.Lo came into the picture, I'm thinking it was probably for Rihanna? Who else would that song have been in mind for?
