Not according to Billboard. In this thread we are talking about the album chart, where The Fame/Fame Monster package was treated as a re-release of The Fame. I'm not quite sure what you're going on about. I am going to assume you knew that BB200 listed The Fame Monster EP as a separate chart entry. Let me know if you think I am wrong. Anyway, if there is a re-release of Born This Way, it would be a 2nd disc since there isn't a lot of room left to add new songs to the 1st disc and the same thing would happen. A second disc available for purchase would chart as a completely different album I'm not sure you understand what I was talking about in the first place. I was referring to this re-release package of 'The Fame', you know the one that's currently #82 on this week's Billboard 200 chart. I wasn't talking about the separate, standalone EP release that is treated as separate entity as far as Billboard, HITS, retail et all is concerned. www.amazon.com/Fame-Monster-Deluxe-Lady-Gaga/dp/B002QGUFWE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1310789559&sr=8-4www.amazon.com/Fame-Monster-Lady-Gaga/dp/B002W6Z0UK/ref=sr_1_6?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1310789831&sr=1-6But then again, I'm sure you know what I am talking about and you're just being unnecessarily pedantic for the sake of it. :)

But I'm honestly baffled as to why there were larger expectations for his opening week in the first place. Quite possibly because his label is on record as having their eyes on a larger first week. Here's one example, from Warner Music Nashville SVP/Sales & Marketing Peter Strickland via Country Aircheck:The disclaimer notwithstanding, this isn't the only place Warner Nashville was throwing around the possibility of higher opening numbers for Blake (it is, however, the only place I can link at the moment). So I don't think it was unreasonable for fans/observers to also consider the possibility. Of course, 110-120K opening week for Blake, with the superstar treatment he has gotten both from Music Row and Hollywood, is by no means underwhelming because he is obviously set up for continued success and this still represents more than a 50% percentage increase from his Hillbilly Bone six-pack opening. Still, Chris Young's projected numbers represent the more interesting story of the week for me. If he really turns sales of 70-75K this week, that will represent a huge uptick for him (he would nearly triple the first week sales of The Man I Want to Be if these projections hold) and a confirmation that he really has taken things to the next level as a bankable country star on the rise. RCA Nashville has been very active on his behalf advancing his narrative as a talented singer coming into his own as a persona and artist, but Young has also quietly cultivated a very committed core fanbase. I almost wonder why RCA Nashville didn't push his album back by a week, since doing so would have likely coincided with "Tomorrow"'s airplay peak and also given him the #1 country album of the week. Excellent post, Dudley. I also like what you added about 150k being the high end of the range for Blake. So yes, I think his projected numbers are far from underwhelming, and I did think that 150k would be about as high as he could possibly get. It'd be nice to see him get 120-130k. And I'm glad you mentioned Chris Young too. His projected debut numbers are outstanding. For those of you who don't know, his lead single "Tomorrow" is currently at #4 on the country singles chart, and should be guaranteed of a #2 peak at the very least. We'll see if he can find his way to #1 by navigating around Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" and Zac Brown Band's duet with Jimmy Buffett, "Knee Deep". If "Tomorrow" can find a week at #1, it would be Chris' 4th straight #1 hit.

Bahaha We're pulling for you TD. 5 smash #1s singles >> 2 hot flops (whatever single #4 is), a weak #1 and a bland top 5 hit. So Katy's number ones are smashes and Gaga's are weak. Right...

^Perry's No. 1s from TD have enjoyed greater longevity than "Born This Way." But, that's just a side note and there was no need to reference another act when celebrating Perry's chart stats. Not sure why some posters feel the need to tout the chart feats of one act at the expense of another.
The TD album has enjoyed pretty decent legs, even with the singles selling so darn much.

Btw peaked with less Ai than any TD single (?), and just passed 3m, while all TD singles will have passed 4m by christmas with 3 of them being close to 5m...

lol yeah it would be a crazy turn of events if Katy ends up outselling her.. Teenage Dream has incredible momentum & i see it still maintaining it into the fall season unlike BTW.. especially if she releases a 6th single, which will carry the album until Black Friday and beyond. What? LFN is going to peak by early-mid August...I don't think another single will last until Black Friday. It would have peaked by then.

They both passed 100m AI and sold quite well.

If we were talking about Gaga then most likely..but Katy's singles hold up very well and tend to have amazing longevity. That's something Gaga seems to have seriously tumbled down in this era.

Not sure if you were referring to me, but I believe the comparison between the two albums is very apt at this moment in time. I wasn't trying to start a diva war at all. I just thought that Gaga and Katy are the two reigning dance pop queens at the moment. Since both albums have nearly the same sales total at the moment and are on a trajectory to have similar weekly sales totals soon, I thought it was appropriate to bring it up, especially considering the discrepencies in their first week totals. In some ways it makes sense to compare them both as sophomore efforts, and if other ways it doesn't because TFM can be seen as Gaga's 2nd album. That might be an argument that no one is going to win.

No, neverdup-I actually didn't see your first reference. I just meant referring to frayed's references of "2 hot flops," a "weak" #1," etc. So while you did compare, it wasn't done in the manner I was talking about. :)
While it's obvious that Born This Way's first-week sales were hugely front-loaded and the promotion attracted buyers who may have purchased the album down the line, hopefully it will stabilize somewhat soon.

Could people just leave BTW alone until everything is said and done and then judge whether it underpeformed or not?
The facts are that it's sold over million copies in its first week and has now sold ~1.6 million. It has spawned three top 10 singles, of which one spent six weeks at number one, and one top 20 hit.
This doesn't make Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Rihanna or Beyoncé or anyone else more or less successful.

^while it may eventually get certified platinum, this album will not sell 1 million in the US. He just doesn't have the urban support to do it.
"no sleep" will do fine at rhythmic and pop, but nothing at urban.
after that, he's got nothing left to release.

Hmm Blake did worse than I thought. I mean even his GH got a new peak couple of weeks ago and he has a big hit right now. In the long run it doesn't matter if the album opened with 110k or 150k though..
