Pfftt...I wish Britney Spears' 'Britney' 4.9M still 4x platinum 'In the zone' 2.9M still 2x platinum 'Blackout' 1.002M still uncertified 'Circus' 1.68M still 1x platinum Queen Brit needs to be certified 37x platinum in the U.S. but is still 33x... Oh i'm mad... >:( Hmm, I was referring more to Femme Fatale which was certified Platinum way too early lol Well, I stan for Britney so I'll refrain from saying too much and just say touche ;). Hopefully it will turn into another Blackout where it was around 850k and then eventually got to 1,002,000 by September 2011. ;)

^I forget what happened last year with "The Time"- how did it hold up after the Super Bowl? And BEP's performance was pretty panned.
Not that it matters too much, but do West coast sales from 9.pm.-midnight PST count for this week's or next week's chart?

Well couple days maybe. Sales spikes driven by TV performances of past songs have generally not proven to be permanent

The week after the Super Bowl last year was a complete mess on iTunes. Besides 2 BEP songs rising high, there was 2 Glee episodes that week and at one point, 7 of the Top 10 songs were Glee songs. Which included a cover of Firework, which also sent the original soaring back up. It was also the same week when Colbie Callait's I Do randomly went #1, and the same week Born This Way was released and nabbed the #1 in 3 hours. And then the week ended with the Grammys which sent Forget You and I Need a Doctor back up.. LOL

What's the reason for We Are Young's big bump? I don't remember hearing it during the Super Bowl. It was in a commercial for the Chevy Sonic. I was actually surprised to see quite a few tweets on my timeline about the song when it aired. :)

Yeah when that song started my friends were like "what is that" and I filled them in. Actually they expected me to know every song for every clip that played the entire time commericals or not. And I did.

Haha--unless you want to keep providing that service yourself, introduce them to Shazam or Soundhound if they have a smartphone or iPad; it'll analyze the music being played and match it to a song. Shazam actually got plugged in several commercials tonight; several had special deals (such as the Bud Light one offering the LMFAO remix of "Give Me All Your Luvin'").

The subject of pre-sales for albums has come up in the last few days and we have a question about it.
ʝöᵴħ asked this in the Madonna single thread: "However, the question is, do the sales from pre-ordering the album help advance the single's position on the single chart, or are those sales based on people who bought solely the single, not pre-order the whole album?
So it's either the single by itself is at #3, or the single PLUS pre-sales giving the single as a sale at #3, just no one knows which it really is."
We'd like a definitive answer from someone knows how this all works. Thanks.

Out of like 90mm viewers Madonna has yet to hit #1. I'm shocked a little especially since she had the hype behind her this time around.

I think Madonna has probably reached her "sell by" date in the US. She did premiere the song/video on the number 1 show, Idol, and then performed it at the biggest TV event of the year, simultaneously getting a massive launch at radio. It hasn't yet been a week yet but my guess is people aren't really feeling the track. I really doubt that it will have legs since digital sales play such a role in Hot 100 positioning.

Why would any teenager be interested in Madonna? For them it's like seeing their mothers jumping around.
It's insane to think she'd gain loads of new fans with each era. It's hard enough to keep the old ones.

Exactly- and the fact that an act approaching her mid-50s- no matter the level of promo or how highly regarded she's been through her career- can get as high as she's getting (No. 2 on iTunes right now)- that's pretty impressive. Bruce Springsteen (at 59, I think) performed his new single at SB halftime a couple years back, and it peaked at No. 95 on the Hot 100. Granted, Madonna's always been more successful and pop-oriented than he, but, still.
As for Idol- the ratings are down big this season, even getting beaten by The Big Bang Theory in its time slot. So while it's great to get a preview on there, it's not as monumental an impact as it once was. Maybe it would have been more effective if the show was live rather than in the audition stage- here nor there, though.
Adonis- many of us didn't believe this track would be in contention for No. 1- so we're not surprised at all. :)
