"I Knew You Were Trouble" was the Christmas #1 2 years ago with 582K sold. I wonder how close "Blank Space" will get to that number.

According to kworb, the projection for Blank Space is 643k, but I'm pretty sure it will decrease eventually. I'm thinking somewhere around 550k. That will make Blank Space the only song since Happy to log 4 weeks or more with sales over 300k, consecutive or not.

It's kind of a big deal.
Shockingly, the only Into the Woods song charting right now is "On the Step of the Palace." Currently sits at #1499. Weird. I figured the songs would be doing moderately well.

I think Au$tin was referring to high sales, not the specifics...
Anyways, I want to watch Into the Woods, has anyone watched it, and would you recommend it?

By the way, in case Mark need any confirmation, this is the list of song that ever accomplish the specifics (300k+ 4 times or more, consecutive or not)
2009: Right Round 2010: California Gurls, Love The Way You Lie 2011: ET 2012: We Are Young, Somebody That I Used To Know 2013: Thrift Shop, Blurred Lines, Roar 2014: Happy, Blank Space (After the gift card week)
That's 11 in total. Katy Perry is the only artist to do that twice with California Gurls and ET.

Can someone explain to me the gift card sales and why they're so high? Gift cards are a really popular gift for people to give on Christmas, and iTunes gift cards are very popular to give. So certain songs go up due to people all of the sudden having money. (It's mostly kids who get cards so teen acts tend to rise)

Teen acts and big hits from the year see the biggest increases. Plus current smashes, of course.
"Blank Space" has all of those going for it, which explains why it was able to jump back over "Uptown Funk" and got a big lead. "Shake It Off" also re-entered the top ten. And all her of songs are up.

Why is it so high all of a sudden? It was discouted + gift card week + teen act = big money :) So teens had wanted to buy the song all along, just didn't have the money to? It wasn't even on the Top 100 before, was it?

Thats partly the reason, yes! :) Another may be due to the discount and the exposure of it being high on iTunes now! :) I'm really happy it's doing well right now, it needs to smash!

I dunno; I've been keeping tabs on the songs that get noticed just as they go on sale, and the results are a mixed bag:
Jealous / Nick Jonas - Peaked at #8 as a 69 cent song, didn't make past the top 25 on Hot 100 in that time period; only became big once the remix broke through
Really Don't Care / Demi Lovato - Peaked in 20s of iTunes; peaked at #26 on Hot 100; very long period and aggressive radio promotion, but overall did not become the radio smash it was posing itself to be
Hideaway / Kiesza - Peaked in 30s of iTunes; missed the top half of Hot 100; Pop radio success, but sales just couldn't bolster it enough.
Geronimo / Sheppard - Peaked around #45 in iTunes for several weeks; lasted one week on Hot 100 in 90s after a brief radio push; crashed the instant sales price was reverted.
All About That Bass / Meghan Trainor - This one was 99 cents, but still an interesting exception: it peaked in 20s in its first week, and only grew once it became a 1.29 song.
In summary, I'm not sure what will happen, but judging by the nature of the song and the promotion, I sadly have to guess it's going to go the same way as Really Don't Care. At least it will be Fifth Harmony's first genuine hit?

At least it will be Fifth Harmony's first genuine hit? Even though it only peaked at 43, BO$$ felt like a big hit to me. I know a lot of people who love the song, and if you take a look on youtube if has hundreds of covers, remixes, mashups, dance tuturials, etc. It seems they have a massive following (even managing to win a VMA against 5SOS), but somehow that isn't showing on digital sales.

But it still wasn't an "official" hit, and I'd like to see them get that! Also, Bo$$ felt big (to me) but only because I listened to it a lot, many people either didn't like the song or didn't know it, so I wouldn't say it was a big hit in the US as a whole.

...and from the looks of it, this is their only week in the hit zone. Its only notable component is sales, and that's already regressing barely halfway into the week. At least I called that it would be a hit, if barely.
