The remix isn't different enough from the original to warrant the purchase even at 69 cents. ^THIS Had the remix itself been better/more different, regardless of who was the guest on it, it would make more impact. If you already have the song, this is barely different enough to be worth buying.

^Still inclined to think that if RiRi or someone else hot at radio appeared- without a single change in the music- it would be selling better. But, neither here nor there- it is what it is.

That is probably true as well. But, if I recall correctly, the S&M remix (which barely changed the sound) burnt out faster than the TTWE remix (which had more notable changes to the sound, although it was still similar to the original).

If it doesn't reach #1, Dr. Luke better quit trying. This would be his third late-in-the-game remix post-"S&M" hitting #1 to fail to reach it. This may just be me having a brain fart moment, but what was the third song he tried this with? I'm not recalling anything other than TTWE and LFN. Yeah. Rebecca would've done nothing, tbh. No one really cares about her music. Rebecca herself, probably not. The key was to sample Friday. LFN has a novelty song appeal (I mean this in a nice way, surprisingly) and Katy/Capitol played that up by throwing in a bunch of pop culture references in the video, Rebecca included. So why not mix in a little bit of "gotta get down on Friday, Friday" and "fun, fun, fun, fun" at the appropriate points? Leaves LFN intact for charting purposes while adding just enough of a difference to give people a reason to buy it. (Some people DID buy Friday...those are the ones I'd be counting on to buy this hypothetical remix, too.) Even if they wanted to go through with the Missy remix I really don't understand why they didn't seize an opportunity with Rebecca/Friday too. It just made so much sense, particularly if they'd released it to coincide with the video premiere. And as many others have pointed out, Capitol really just waited to late to do this. I suppose they wanted to wait until she'd caught up in airplay so that they could 'guarantee' that the remix would put them over the top in sales, but they underestimated the competition. Probably should have stuck to the E.T. strategy and released the remix alongside the regular version from the beginning. Maybe she'll luck out in the end anyway.

Those 'other' women are busy. They are touring right now. :) Rihanna could have recorded her parts separately or Katy could've even flown in to Barbados to record. This was the perfect opportunity for Katy to finally recruit her BFF and make history together.

I'd rather have Katy and Rihanna make a huge collabo as a main single (a la The Boy Is Mine) rather than a tacky remix that no one will remember in a week.

It's looking like "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" has a respectable shot at claiming the top spot next week, regardless.
That said, Capitol still blundered the release strategy in terms of helping it achieve its full chart conquering potential, and costed this track potential "Song of the Summer" honors. Adele's "Rolling In The Deep", Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" and LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" will probably all rank further up on the final seasonal composite chart.
Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

From what I can tell, the "S&M" collabo didn't change a thing in the sound (at least that's recognizable). The music accompanying the rap sections on both TTWE and LFnN is different than the originals, but then what kicks in thereafter either is identical to the original (LFN), or THIS close to it (TTWE).

That would be my knee jerk reaction if I was Katy's record company. Turn lemons into lemonade. People would've liked that alot especially after the thrashing Rebecca Black got when she released her song Friday. It would've been nice to see someone sticking up for her. It's endearing.

It never got that high Remix and original combined, yes, it did earlier this morning. That was when the original was #6 and remix was #25 or #26 or something. Of course now it's not like that.

It never even reached 0.80. Sorry to burst your bubble. PRA is #1 at Amazon while LFN is at #5. Don't know if that will make up for the few hours LFN was slightly ahead of PRA

Yeah there's no way it could only fall 4 places, yet lose that much percentage of pop bars.

It'll be the first song since Kanye West's Heartless to top both HDS and the Airplay chart and miss the Hot 100 top spot

You'd think that the statistics alone would give LFN the edge, with LMFAO's second version at No. 134.
We don't think there's more than a 15% gap between No. 32 and No. 134? I don't really follow all these percentage numbers, so...
