^I don't know, but that song was at #1 for 1 week and was out of the top 10 in 2 weeks. It beat out "Hot Stuff" for 1 week before HS returned to #1.
Maybe Love You Inside Out had some type of sales surge that week? I would guess that it's top 40 airplay wasn't that high. IDK.

"Party Rock Anthem"No. 3 No. 119 "Last Friday Night"No. 6 No. 49 Not really a good representation when the single version of PRA is almost equal to both versions of LFN. It's also at #2 on Amazon while LFN is #5 I think PRA's sales is enough to eclipse the airplay differential it has on LFN.

The Bee Gees "Love You Inside and Out" scandal was always hearsay based on the fact that the song never rose above #3 on Cashbox, Record World or R&R, and at the time there were widely rumored "deals" between RSO Records and the Billboard chart manager. Who's to say, other than Player's unusual chart performance of "this time i'm in it for love" and "staying alive"'s almost unheard of bounce back?

Just posting the positions, LOCK, not saying it's a representation or anything. I don't get into the pop bars, so I leave that to others. :)

Last week, LMFAO- with its second version- sold some 50K more than LFN. It indeed will come down to the wire, it's looking.

LMFAO is not loosing in airplay as fast as LFN is loosing in sales. Whoops! hasn't that been the story. Airplay is limited sales in theory are not limited in the same way Airplay is.

Yeah but didn't songs plummet fast after their peak in those days? I remember songs in the top 10 that were pretty much out of the top 40 within three weeks after they peaked, like Cher's "Take Me Home" or Donna Summer's "The Wanderer" (okay that was an 80's track), but I used to listen to classic Casey Kasem countdowns all the time and songs that peaked in the top 10 or even number one used to plummet really fast.

Yes they did. Songs had considerably shorter chart runs in those days than they do now.

^Yah- that's why Billboard now, when compiling all-time charts, gives pre-BDS/-SoundScan-era singles more weight than singles that charted late 1991-present.

Demand is inelastic in the less than 1.5 dollar price range. It would've been better if they had just put up a front page ad promoting the remixes and the original versions of the song.

This is embarrassing. I mean, it already was last week with such sloppy action, but now... They could have already done everything right by last week and avoid such desperation and Katy would be at no. 1. This has become a joke (and I'm not excusing Katy because she's not doing anything for this song either... apart from that chat).
Katy's on the verge of being history, but for the wrong reasons: for being the artist who desperately tried millions of badly executed tactics to achieve a no. 1 and failed.

Let's alll realize the song has been available on itunes for a year now. It seems reasonable that price gimmicks, remix gimmicks and such may not work.
Although I did try to help you guys out by buying the remix myself ;)

LOL - just to be clear, I have never purchased music to "support the artist". Usually I purchase a song because I want it.
Here, I purchased it because of this discussion and the 69 cent price tag.

Regardless of any discounting, let's look at the realities of this: a fifth single reaches No. 1 on Hot 100 Airplay, sees pretty decent singles sales, and spends multiple weeks at No. 2 on the Hot 100. How many other fifth singles in recent times have achieved what "Last Friday Night" has, pre-single discounts or not? Come on, I'm waiting... Yes, the record label may have made mistakes in the "remix" and pricing timing, but let's not act like it's a big fail if this singles does not hit No. 1 on the Hot 100. Records, schmecords.

Yes, the record label may have made mistakes in the "remix" and pricing timing, but let's not act like it's a big fail if this singles does not hit No. 1 on the Hot 100. Actually it is, mainly because of how desperate the label seems to be for that #1 that they're throwing out all these tricks and none of them are working. That is why this will be seen as a big fail and it will leave a stigma for people to drag her with. People would have called it desperate regardless, the minute she did the remix but discounting it as well made it worse and the fact that she still couldn't get the #1 made that even worse. And now it's being discounted for a 2nd week which makes it even worse. Can you imagine if she misses it another week? even worseAnd I don't think it being 5th single even matters at all considering Kathy is more of a singles artist anyway. She is used primarily for hits by the public, they probably don't care if she has 10 singles out, they could all very well be #1 it seems.
