O.
When "Dark Horse" first surfaced, I thought it had somehow become standard to poke fun at Jessie J by referring to her as Juicy J.

This sales week is REALLY exciting. Look at the top 4! They're all selling incredibly well and are pretty close together! Wrecking Ball, Work Bitch, Roar, Royals, and Dark Horse could all sell over 300k this week!

Katy is #5 now. It's amazing really. I hope the Dark Horse can get to iTunes #1 by tomorrow.

"Work Bitch" is back to declining already and has fallen to #3 behind "Roar."

Everybody (and Otto) knows it's a bit risky song regarding the possible mega success in the US.
Critics love it, the whole thing is reminding me of I'm a Slave 4 U

Katy did countdown singles with the last album too -- why are people acting like this is new?

What happened to Britney? She used to have these huge debuts not so long ago and now she's struggling to stay in the top 5. I guess one can say the song is "risky" but I thought she had a big enough fanbase to at least support her for the first week.
Did her fans just moved on to someone else?

Its just a single that not a lot of her less hardcore fans don't like. IMO, most of the people who buy a single in it's first week aren't hardcore pulse/ATRL style stans who will support an artist no matter what. They're fans, but don't make a big deal out of not liking a song by an artist they usually like, and just won't buy it.

It was the same thing with Gaga. A mystery imo.

I do believe that a couple years ago Britney's fans would buy anything she put out regardless of the quality. That's what fans do. That's why any lead single by One Direction or Justin Bieber get these big front-loaded sales, and that's what used to happen to Britney too. Maybe her fans are more selective now.

Katy did countdown singles with the last album too -- why are people acting like this is new? I think people are more confused than anything. Most people, not necessarily here but in general, seem to think any individual song thrown up on iTunes is also a radio single.

If you look at Britney's career overall, it's been all over the map in terms of how successful each era has been. Also Work Bitch came out with not much fanfare...
I'm hoping it does well, it's actually the first "comeback" song this year that surpassed my expectations.

I disagree, Britney fans haven't mysteriously changed since 2011. Britney consistently had good first week sales because she released singles that were very appealing to her fans, both devoted and casual. Obviously Britney still has her devoted fans by the looks of Pulse, but some of her casual fans don't seem to like it. It's not that Britney has lost her selling power, its just that she released the wrong material for a big debut.

If the music isn't good people won't buy it even if they are fans.

Britney, Gaga, Lorde, Miley, Katy Perry are all in the top 10 with new singles at the same time. Only one can be number one at a time
